PSV star Noa Lang admits he wanted Napoli transfer

Yahoo20-02-2025

PSV Eindhoven star Noa Lang admits he wanted to join Napoli in January: 'These were turbulent weeks for me.'
The versatile Dutch striker was one of the Partenopei targets to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the January transfer window, but PSV refused to even listen to offers for the 25-year-old.
'These were turbulent weeks for me, with a transfer that I really wanted to make, but that did not work out,' Lang told Ziggo Sport via Voetbalprimeur.nl.
'Then, there was irritation and a bit of hassle with the supporters. I would lie if I said that it does not affect me.'
Lang was criticised and even booed by PSV supporters in recent weeks because he wanted to leave the club.
'Everyone knows that I'm an emotional guy. Certain things were still bothering me at that moment,' Lang admitted.
'I really wanted to make the transfer to Napoli and felt it was being taken away from me. I'm a bit more emotional than the other guys. I'm a guy who reacts impulsively. That's my character. I try to deal with that, but it's not always easy.
'It was difficult to switch at the beginning, I'll be honest about that. But I'm a top athlete and I have to switch,' he continued.
'I want to win the double and go far in the Champions League. If we don't become champions, it's a bad season.'
The Netherlands international put in a sublime performance against Juventus on Wednesday, contributing to PSV's qualification to the Champions League Round of 16, where they will meet Inter or Arsenal.
'As long as I play for this club, I promise I will give everything,' he concluded.
Lang has made 31 appearances for PSV Eindhoven in the 2024-2025 season, scoring seven goals and providing 10 assists.
In the Eredivisie, he has played 18 matches, netting five goals. In the UEFA Champions League, Lang has featured in nine games, scoring once and assisting twice.
His contract with the Dutch side runs out in June 2028.

England booed by its fans after loss to Senegal in international friendly

Boos rang out as England left the field after a 3-1 loss to Senegal in a friendly on Tuesday which marked the first defeat of Thomas Tuchel's tenure as coach. Senegal recovered from conceding Harry Kane's early goal to become the first team from Africa to record a victory over England. "We're not going to panic. But, for sure, we know we need to do better," England captain Kane told broadcaster ITV and suggested England had lost "that aggressive nature that we've had." In World Cup qualifying on Tuesday, the Netherlands beat Malta 8-0 and Austria beat San Marino 4-0. England's landmark loss Kane was the only player retained in Tuchel's starting lineup from last week's 1-0 win over Andorra, which had caused Tuchel to criticize his team's attitude. The changes brought little improvement. Kane's record-extending 73rd England goal gave his team the lead in the seventh minute, when he bundled in after a goalkeeping error by Edouard Mendy. Senegal was a step above Tuchel's previous England opponents Albania, Latvia and Andorra, and England conceded for the first time in his tenure in the 40th minute. Nicolas Jackson chased down a long pass and hooked it back for the onrushing Ismaila Sarr to score after having outpaced Kyle Walker. Senegal's second goal followed a long ball to Habib Diarra, who seemed to be attempting a pass of his own when the ball deflected in off goalkeeper Dean Henderson's leg. Jude Bellingham thought he'd leveled the game for England with a goal at a corner in the 84th, but it was ruled out for an earlier handball by Levi Colwill. Senegal made it 3-1 when Cheikh Sabaly finished off a counter in stoppage time. Depay ties a Dutch record Memphis Depay tied the scoring record for the Netherlands men's national team with two goals in the eight-goal win over Malta. Depay scored in the ninth and 16th minutes for his 49th and 50th goals, equaling a record set by team great Robin van Persie. Depay hit 50 goals in his 102nd game for the Netherlands, while van Persie's 50th came in his 101st game in 2015. In other World Cup qualifiers in Europe on Tuesday, Romania won 2-0 against Cyprus, Serbia beat Andorra 3-0 and Latvia drew 1-1 with Albania. Finland's game against Poland was suspended because of a medical emergency with Finland leading 2-1. The game later resumed. Reporting by The Associated Press. Earlier today, it emerged that the Partenopei are working on a move for the USA man and Daniele Longo has reported about the situation. Advertisement Napoli had started contacts with the player's entourage earlier today and they quickly managed to reach an agreement over personal terms as well. Moreover, an agreement with Milan is also edging closer. Talks are at an advanced stage, with Giovanni Manna keen on pleasing Antonio Conte by signing Musah quickly in the summer. West Ham have tried to insert themselves into the situation but the deal will cost a total fee of €25 million for Napoli and that will include bonuses that fixed and varied. Sports Seriously Yunus Musah looks to be on the move, though the AC Milan midfielder won't be leaving Serie A. According to multiple reports, Musah is on the brink of joining Italian champion Napoli in a move worth around €25 million. Napoli coach Antonio Conte is said to be an admirer of the 22-year-old, who looks to be part of a revamped midfield that is also set to include former Man City star Kevin De Bruyne. Musah will help replace Philip Billing, who was on loan from Bournemouth this past season and will not be retained. Musah has spent two seasons with Milan after joining from Valencia in 2023. The midfielder earned plenty of minutes with the Rossoneri, but never completely found his footing during his time at the club. The U.S. international managed 40 appearances in all competitions last season, playing a variety of positions including right back, right winger and central midfield. Though he was at times a lock starter, Musah's minutes declined over the final weeks of the 2024-25 campaign. He was removed twice as a tactical sub in a four-game span in March and April. Musah is set to trade Serie A's eighth-place finisher for its champion, swapping a season with no European competition for Champions League play. It will be a welcome boost for his USMNT chances. Musah was set to be on the Gold Cup roster this summer, but requested to be removed due to a personal issue. Musah has 46 caps with the USMNT, including starts in all four of the team's games at the 2022 World Cup.
