Aamir Khan today announced the global release of his superhit theatrical film Sitaare Zameen Par, exclusively on YouTube starting on 1 August, 2025. This strategic move marks a bold new distribution approach that delivers one of 2025's most successful theatrical releases directly into people's homes. This heartwarming family drama, starring Actor-Producer Aamir Khan, Genelia Deshmukh and featuring a powerful ensemble, including 10 actors with intellectual disabilities, will be available in India at Rs. 100, and in 38 international markets, including USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Germany, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Spain, among others, with pricing localized for each market.
Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual successor to the 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par, celebrates love, laughter, and inclusivity. The film has struck a deep chord with audiences — crossing ₹250 crore worldwide. Audiences can now rent the movie by paying a fee, turning every home and device into a janta ka theatre.
This makes premium cinema accessible to a wider audience, whether in their home or on the move – all they need is an internet connection. For fans who missed it in cinemas or wish to re-watch it, this offers a high-quality, convenient option. To reach even broader and newer audiences in India and globally, Sitaare Zameen Par will offer subtitles and dubs in key languages.
The digital release of Sitaare Zameen Par leverages YouTube's reach and flexible distribution capabilities. This will also be the primary destination where other beloved films from Aamir Khan Productions, will be available in the days to come.
This pivotal collaboration demonstrates YouTube's growing role in democratising reach and evolving distribution strategies, establishing YouTube as a premier destination for post-theatrical film and media content. YouTube's reach in India and globally is unparalleled. According to Comscore, YouTube reached 4 out of 5 Internet users in India aged 18+, while entertainment videos on YouTube generated over 7.5 billion views on a daily basis globally, in 2024.
Commenting on the launch, actor-producer Aamir Khan stated, 'For the past 15 years I have been struggling with the challenge of how to reach audiences who do not have geographical access to theatres, or those who are unable to make it to theatres for various reasons. Finally the time for the perfect storm has come. With our government bringing in UPI and India becoming no 1 in the world in electronic payments, with internet penetration in India having grown dramatically and growing everyday, and with YouTube being on most devices, we can finally reach vast sections of people in India, and a significant part of the world. My dream is that Cinema should reach everyone at a reasonable and affordable price. I want people to have the ease of watching Cinema when they want, where they want. If this idea works, Creative voices can tell different stories breaking geographical and other barriers. This will also be a great opportunity for younger creative people entering the field of Cinema. If this idea works, then I see this as a win-win for all."
Gunjan Soni, Country Managing Director, YouTube India, highlighted the strategic significance of this partnership. 'The digital launch of Sitaare Zameen Par exclusively on YouTube underscores a significant step towards democratizing Indian film distribution at a global scale. YouTube is already a key digital destination for premium content, and we're excited to offer filmmakers and content owners not only our unparalleled digital reach but also the control and flexibility to meet their audiences where they are. Today's launch is far more than a release – YouTube is laying out the red carpet for Indian cinema to stride onto the global stage."
YouTube offers a robust selection of movies available to buy or rent across diverse languages, genres, including popular Indian and international hits. This offering continues to grow alongside a significant opportunity in India, driven by surging internet penetration, rapid growth in Connected TVs, and increasing mobile consumption. In fact, Connected TV (CTV) is YouTube's fastest growing screen for the last 5 years in India. These trends reinforce YouTube's unique position to make premium content accessible on every screen and in every format.
The platform is a critical and continuous part of a film's entire journey, from building initial buzz with teasers, trailers, and music, and now extending to seamless on-demand streaming. According to a Kantar survey, viewers in India often watch videos on YouTube when considering new purchases in entertainment, and agree that YouTube has top content in music (94%) and entertainment (94%). As viewers become more participative, fandoms on YouTube help create more stickiness for content, allowing filmmakers to build engaged and passionate fandoms.
Directed by RS Prasanna, written by Divy Nidhi Sharma, Sitaare Zameen Par stars Aamir Khan, Genelia Deshmukh and introduces ten new faces. Next up, Aamir is producing Lahore 1947 starring Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, and Ek Din, featuring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, both under his banner Aamir Khan Productions.

Macaulay Culkin regrets missing out 'Rushmore': Could have done that one
Los Angeles, "Home Alone" series star Macaulay Culkin says he could have been a part of the 1998 comedy film "Rushmore" if he hadn't missed reading the script. Macaulay Culkin regrets missing out 'Rushmore': Could have done that one Directed by Wes Anderson, "Rushmore" featured Jason Schwartzman and revolved around Max, a student at Rushmore Academy, who excels at everything except academics. He later falls in love with his teacher but finds out that his mentor also has feelings for her. Culkin, who rose to fame with his role of Kevin McCallister in "Home Alone", said he randomly came across the script of Anderson's directorial while clearing out the old scripts. He also recalled taking a break following his successful career as a child actor. "Well, you have to understand, at least then, I was retired for at least a big chunk of that, for at least like six or seven years of that. Like I just went to high school, I got married way too young, things like that, you know. I was actually pretty good at reading. I was kind of vivaciously reading through the scripts. But there was a couple that slipped through," he said on a YouTube talk show hosted by Sean Evans. The actor also praised Schwartzman for his role and said he can't imagine anyone else doing it. "I remember about two years later kind of clearing out the house, throwing out the old scripts, and I saw the one that I didn't read was 'Rushmore.' I was like, 'Ah dang. I probably could have done that one.' Although I can't imagine anyone but Schwartzman doing that part. But at the same time, I was like, 'Oh man that would have been a ball and a biscuit, that one," he added. Culkin's last work is "Entergalactic", where he voiced the character of Downtown Pat. The animated film released IN 2022 on Netflix and was directed by Fletcher Moules. This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.

Coolie vs War 2 box office advance: Rajinkanth-starrer heading for a Rs 80 crore opening, Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR film's overseas growth worrisome
The battle of the stars has already begun with two of the biggest movies of the year are releasing during the Independence Day weekend. Rajinikanth starrer Coolie and Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR's War 2 are both releasing on the same day and their target audience is similar to each other. The advance bookings for both these films have started internationally, and in India, Coolie has already started minting money as they recently opened their advance booking. Presently, Coolie is doing much better than War 2 in the international markets. But since War 2 is yet to open ticket sales in India, it looks like the competition here might push War 2 ahead. According to Bollywood Hungama, Coolie has already sold tickets worth Rs 27 crore internationally, and their projections predict a massive Rs 80 crore opening day for the film. US collections of the film hold the biggest piece of this pie, followed by Malaysia, UAE, and Australia/New Zealand. On the other hand, the publication reported that War 2 is at Rs 4.5 crore in advance bookings internationally, with the Telugu version of the film contributing around 50 percent of the entire amount. With Jr NTR making his debut in Bollywood, this number could increase as well. Shubman Gill's India Jersey Auctioned For 5.41 Lakhs, Bumrah's Shirt Goes For...
Last Updated: Shubman Gill's signed India Test jersey from the Lord's Test was auctioned for £4,600 for the Red For Ruth charity. Bumrah and Jadeja's items fetched £4,200 each. Shubman Gill's India Test jersey, worn during the Lord's Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and signed, was auctioned for £4,600 (around Rs 5.41 lakhs) in the Budds auction under the lot dedicated to the Red For Ruth charity. It derived the highest price from the dozens of match memorabilia, including the signed shirts and caps from players on both sides, portraits, bats, hospitality tickets, among other items. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja's were the joint-second highest at £4,200 (around Rs 4.94 lakhs), followed by KL Rahul at £4,000 (around Rs 4.70 lakhs). For England, Joe Root's signed jersey fetched the highest bid at £3,800 (around Rs 4.47 lakhs), followed by Ben Stokes' £3,400 (around Rs 4 lakhs). Among caps, Root's signed ones were sold at the highest at £3,000 (around Rs 3.52 lakhs), while Rishabh Pant's earned the best bid for India at £1,500 (around Rs 1.76 lakhs). The description for the shirt worn by Gill, the highest run-scorer of the series India drew 2-2, on the auction website gave an idea of the image he has in the country: 'This special-edition shirt, worn in support of the Ruth Strauss Foundation, features the official India Test crest and shows visible signs of match wear, with staining and unwashed. Gill, renowned for his graceful stroke play and calm temperament, is one of the brightest talents in world cricket. Shirt is unwashed and match worn—a rare collector's item from a memorable day at the Home of Cricket." The overall highest bid was earned by a print of artist Sacha Jafri's canvas painting of the 2019 World Cup Winning Moment – £5,000 (Rs 5.88 lakhs). What is Red For Ruth? Every year, one day of a Lord's Test is dedicated to former England captain Andrew Strauss' foundation, Red For Ruth, as cricketers, broadcasters, and the public wear red. Initiated in memory of Ruth Strauss, his late wife, who died of cancer, this initiative has become a significant part of the cricket calendar. Before the match between India and England, the foundation had said that through the generosity and support of fans over the past six years, it had assisted over 3,500 family members navigating grief and trained more than 1,000 cancer care professionals in handling bereavement. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
