Mohali: 17 cases of diarrhoea crop up in Madanpur
As many as 17 cases of diarrhoea have been reported from Madanpur village, Phase-1, Mohali, over the past one week.
Chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Sangeeta Jain attributed the cases to low water intake amid the rising temperatures: 'Initially 14 cases were reported that went up to 17, but no new ones have emerged. All patients have recovered.'
The health department swung into action, distributing medicines and ORS packets. Officials also conducted door-to-door screening to monitor residents' health conditions and identify any new cases.
Meanwhile, Dr Harman Kaur from the Phase-6 civil hospital said water supply issues had been reported in the area for two days. 'Drinking water samples have been collected for analysis,' she added.
Mohali deputy mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi also visited the village to assess the situation on ground.

Kaushambi case: Probe team summons SDM, CO, records statements of victim, family
The team of the State Backward Classes Commission (SBCC), which reached Kaushambi to investigate the Lonhada case, met SDM Sirathu and CO, Sirathu at the Circuit House on Friday and sought details related to the case. The team also took the girl's statement, copies of documents related to the case, besides the suicide note of the father of the accused. These copies will also be attached with the investigation report to be sent to the chairman of the Commission. The State Backward Classes Commission had formed a five-member team to investigate the Lonhada case which included the Commission's vice chairman Surya Prakash Pal, members Vinod Kumar Singh, Balak Das, Richa Rajput and Ashok Kumar. On Friday morning, before recording the statement of the girl and her family members besides villagers, the team summoned SDM Sirathu Yogesh Kumar Gaur and CO Satyendra Tiwari at the Circuit House in Manjhanpur, Kaushambi. Both officers were quizzed on various developments of the case for about an hour including how it all started, under what circumstances the case was registered and what happened that the sections of rape and Pocso were removed in a hurry, on what basis the case of murder by poisoning was registered against five people including the gram pradhan and the girl's father. Surya Prakash Pal, heading the investigating team said that the entire incident has been investigated thoroughly. He said the statements of SDM and circle officer had also been taken and soon the investigation reports would be sent to chairman of the Commission. Health check-up of victim done A medical team of Community Health Center, Kada, reached Lonhada village on Friday and conducted a health check-up of the victim. In a video of the victim's mother circulated on social media, she could be heard talking about her daughter's ill health. CHC superintendent Dr Mohd Saud said that the girl is completely fine. She had some trouble due to hot weather. ORS and glucose have been given. 'Will get justice for the girl' District president of Aam Aadmi Party Mohd Ilyas reached Lonhada village on Friday with party officials and workers. He met the girl and her family and assured them of all possible help. He said that under pressure of the government, the police had removed the sections of rape and Pocso Act due to which the accused had been released. Instead of the accused, the girl's father has been sent to jail for which AAP would stage a protest at every level for justice, he said.

Chittoor prepares for intensified diarrhea control drive
The Medical and Health Department on Friday launched two focused drives to tackle diarrhea and mosquito-borne diseases across the district. Addressing the medical and paramedical staff here on Friday (June 13), District Medical and Health Officer Dr. D.T. Sudharani directed the medical officers to review preparations for the 'Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF)' campaign and submit a report in a couple of days. She said that the primary goal of the IDCF is to reduce child mortality among children below five years. The ANMs, ASHA workers, and Anganwadi staff were instructed to conduct door-to-door surveys and sensitise families about diarrhea prevention from June 16 to July 31. 'Setting up of ORS corners in all primary health centres, wellness centres, and Anganwadi centres is mandatory. Parents are advised to get their children vaccinated for rotavirus. Children with any symptoms will be treated with ORS and zinc tablets, and will be referred to higher institutions if necessary,' the DMHO said. Meanwhile, District Malaria Officer Venu Gopal on Friday conducted inspections of the 'Friday Dry Day' activities at the Urban Health Centre at Mapakshi village of Gudipala mandal near Chittoor and also visited LB Puram and CG Palle villages. He said that the inspections were part of the ongoing Malaria Prevention Month and while interacting with the residents, he urged them to observe Dry Day every Friday as it is important to check mosquito breeding and prevent diseases such as malaria, dengue, chikungunya, and Japanese encephalitis. Later, the official visited the Anganwadi centre at Mapakshi and stressed on the need for mesh doors and maintenance of clean surroundings to protect children from mosquito bites.

Two more die of diarrhoea in Odisha's Jajpur, toll rises to four
The diarrhoea situation continued to remain grim in the affected and surrounding areas of Vyasanagar municipality, Dharmasala, Danagadi, Rasulpur and Korei blocks with the waterborne disease affecting over 500 people in the last three days. The highest number of cases has been reported from Dharmasala, which reported the first diarrhoea outbreak on Monday night following a community feast. A day later, more diarrhoea cases were reported from several villages in the neighbouring blocks, prompting the Health department to depute two state-level rapid action teams to the affected areas. Although no exact cause of the outbreak has been ascertained, local health officials said, community feasts, consumption of rotten mangoes and jackfruits and water contamination could be the primary reasons. Director of public health Dr Nilakantha Mishra said food and water samples have been collected from the affected areas and sent for tests. 'The test reports are awaited. Efforts are on to provide immediate treatment and control the outbreak,' he told The New Indian Express. Dr Mishra, along with two rapid action teams consisting of medical officers, microbiologists, epidemiologists and the joint director of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, visited the areas and monitored treatment in coordination with the CDM&PHO. Specialists from Maharaja Jajati Keshari Medical College and Hospital, Jajpur are looking into the treatment of the critical cases, while six medicine specialists from SCB MCH have also been deputed to the district. Separate teams comprising ASHA and anganwadi workers have been engaged to conduct door-to-door surveys and distribute ORS pouches, halogen tablets, medicines and awareness materials in the affected villages. The teams of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) wing have been engaged in disinfection of drinking water sources.
