Qatar Airways unveils global winter schedule, increasing flights to over 15 destinations including up to 10 daily flights to London Heathrow
Qatar Airways has introduced increased flights to over 15 global destinations for this year's winter season. The airline is facilitating demand for its services for travellers from all around the globe and continues to offer greater choice and connectivity through its Doha hub. Qatar Airways marks up to 10 daily flights to London as its highest-ever frequency, which is complemented by British Airways' double daily flights.
Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer, Thierry Antinori, said: 'Qatar Airways is consistently witnessing a steady rise in demand for our 5-star services to some of the most prominent destinations in the world, most notably for London, Dublin, Cape Town, and São Paulo. This winter, in partnership with Qatar Airways, Virgin Australia will launch flights from Melbourne to Doha, increasing capacity to three daily flights between the two cities. Qatar Airways will also restart services to Canberra, reinforcing its commitment to enhance connectivity between Australia and the world. The latest increase in flight frequency is testament to our continual and unmatched enhancements of experiences for our passengers travelling through the Best Airport in the Middle East – our hub, Hamad International Airport.'
The airline's global connectivity is supported by its diverse fleet of young aircraft that includes 54 Boeing 777s equipped with ultra-high-speed Starlink on-board Wi-Fi that is free for all passengers. Qatar Airways is first airline in the world to fully equip and operate over 50 widebody aircraft with Starlink, and the only carrier in the MENA region offering the service. Passengers in both Premium and Economy cabins enjoy free, gate-to-gate Wi-Fi speeds of up to 500 Mbps per aircraft.
The airline is now equipping its Airbus A350 fleet, aiming to complete Starlink installation within the next year. Musk's Starlink internet service activated in Somalia
Starlink's satellite internet service can now be accessed in Somalia, months after winning regulatory approval, according to a social media post from the company. Those at Starlink whose responsibility is increasing the availability of the company's high-speed, low-latency internet offering owned and operated by technology tycoon Elon Musk's SpaceX hailed adding Somalia to its list of more than 120 countries. "It's our 25th market in Africa," wrote Ben Williams, leader of Starlink's market access team on LinkedIn. According to Starlink's website, the company's low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites and connectivity devices have given more than three million people around the world the ability to connect to high-speed internet where it was previously unavailable. Starlink's standard antennae devices, which connect to the company's LEO satellites, weigh less than 3kg, contain no moving parts and can withstand strong winds. Unlike traditional communications satellites, which orbit Earth at a range of 20,000km to 35,000km, Starlink's thousands of satellites orbit at about 550km, increasing internet speeds and cutting down on latency. In contrast to 5G or broadband internet, the satellite version does not depend on mobile towers or high-speed data lines, making connection possible in remote areas. LEO satellites have also proven effective in areas of conflict where internet infrastructure has been destroyed. Starlink is largely considered to be the leader in the sector, with various estimates suggesting the company's constellation consists of at least 7,000 LEO satellites. Most recently, however, Amazon launched the first in a series of internet satellites for its Project Kuiper constellation, marking a new phase in the company's plan to challenge Starlink's dominance. Some experts have said constellations of more than 50,000 active LEO satellites could be orbiting within the next decade. Morgan Stanley estimates the satellite broadband market could be worth as much as $400 billion by 2040 – about 40 per cent of the estimated $1 trillion generated by the space industry that year. Although more prevalent in many parts of the world in recent years, varying telecoms regulations have led to a methodical introduction of Starlink availability. For example, while Starlink is available in nearby Oman, it is still pending regulatory approval in countries like the UAE and Saudi Arabia. A document posted to the UAE's Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority website shows that Starlink was granted a regulatory licence in 2024 specified for 'maritime satellite internet services' that will last for about 10 years. In May, during an appearance at the Saudi-US Investment Summit, Mr Musk claimed that Starlink had been approved for maritime and aviation use in Saudi Arabia.

Emirates to add fourth daily flight to London Gatwick
Emirates is set to introduce a fourth daily flight between Dubai and London Gatwick from 8 February 2026. Flight EK069/070 will be operated by the airline's newest aircraft, the Airbus A350, offering customers the opportunity to experience its latest generation interiors, including Business Class and Premium Economy. The fourth flight to London Gatwick brings the airline's total London services to 12 flights across three airports, offering customers more departure time choices and greater flexibility. Emirates flight EK069 will depart Dubai at 17:05hrs, arriving in London Gatwick at 20:50hrs. The return flight, EK070, departs London Gatwick at 23:55hrs and lands in Dubai at 11:00hrs. * The new service's unique timing as the last flight of the day between Dubai and London in both directions caters to customers traveling directly between the two cities. For those traveling to Dubai, the service provides the ideal arrival time for customers to check-in to their hotels and get a head start on their Dubai activities. Customers departing Dubai on the flight can make the most of their time in the city—finishing business meetings, enjoying extended shopping, or completing last-minute activities—before taking the evening flight to London. Operated by an A350-900 aircraft in a three-class configuration, Emirates' new service EK069/070 will offer customers 32 lie-flat Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 layout, 28 Premium Economy seats, and 238 Economy Class seats. UAE flights: Emirates announces new daily flight to London
Emirates has announced a fourth daily flight between Dubai and London Gatwick from February 8, 2026. This new service will be operated by the airline's newest aircraft, the Airbus A350. UAE's flagship carrier operates 140 flights to eight destinations in the UK: London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh. The new flight is the second Emirates route operated by the Airbus A350 in the UK, after Edinburgh. It brings the total number of Emirates flights between Dubai and London to 12 across three airports. This flight will be the last service of the day between the two major hubs. The Emirates flight EK069 will depart Dubai at 5.05pm and arrive at London Gatwick at 8.50pm. The return flight, EK070, will leave London Gatwick at 11.55pm and will land in Dubai at 11am. According to Emirates, these timings will allow visitors to the UAE to make full use of their travel days. Passengers can check in to their hotels and begin their business meetings as soon as they land in Dubai. While departing, the evening flight timing gives travellers an extra day in the city. This flight will have three classes: Economy, Premium Economy and Business.
