Police spot van poking out of lorry on M1
A police operation to target bad driving made an unexpected discovery when a van was seen poking out of the back of a lorry.
Nottinghamshire Police said the "irregular cargo" was spotted on the M1 before the vehicle was stopped on the A42.
The driver was issued with a traffic offence report for driving an overweight vehicle and a tachograph offence, with the lorry banned from leaving the scene until the van was removed.
PC Mike Grant, from Nottinghamshire Police's roads policing unit, said: "I've seen a lot of things on the motorway before but this was definitely a first."
The vehicles were seized during Operation Tramline, a nationwide police operation conducted from the cab of an HGV between 31 March and 4 April.
In total 78 vehicles were stopped for offences including speeding, mobile phone use, seatbelt violations, driving without insurance and driving without due care and attention.

Rapper Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson said he would contact President Trump to dissuade him from considering a pardon for Sean 'Diddy' Combs if the embattled rapper and producer is found guilty in his ongoing federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial. Trump said he would 'look at the facts' when asked Friday if he would consider pardoning Combs. 'First of all, I'd look at what's happening. Man arrested after three police officers injured
A man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent after three police officers were seriously assaulted. Officers attended a property in Gossops Drive, Crawley, at about 14:30 BST on Saturday, to arrest a suspect in an ongoing investigation. The suspect resisted arrest and assaulted the officers, causing significant injuries, before fleeing to a nearby property, Sussex Police said. Following a negotiation, the suspect – a 43-year-old man from Crawley – was arrested and taken into custody, where he remains. All three officers have been taken to hospital for treatment, the force said. Det Supt Karrie Bohanna said: "Violence towards emergency workers is absolutely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. "Police officers put themselves at risk to protect the public, but they should not expect to be assaulted in the course of their duties. She commended the three officers for their "bravery" and said they would receive the "full support of our police service while they recover".
