Cleverley appoints Plymouth Argyle backroom team
Tom Cleverley (left) had Damon Lathrope as his assistant at Watford [Getty Images] Newly appointed Plymouth Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley has brought in three new members of his backroom team. The trio all worked with Cleverley when he was Watford manager before he left the club last month. Advertisement Damon Lathrope will take on the role of assistant head coach - the former Torquay United player had a similar role alongside Cleverley at Vicarage Road. Meanwhile, Matt Bevans joins as first-team coach, and Chris Douglas has been appointed as first-team performance analyst. The trio will work alongside long-serving coach Kevin Nancekivell and goalkeeping coach Darryl Flahavan. Cleverley was unveiled as Miron Muslic's successor as head coach last Friday after the former Pilgrims boss left the club to join German side Schalke. Muslic's assistant Adin Osmanbasic and head of athletic performance Eddie Lattimore have both left the club. Advertisement "Damon, Matt and Chris are three people I know well and are all top class in their respective areas," Cleverley told the Plymouth Argyle website. "They know the way I work, I know the way they work, and I am thrilled they have decided to join the exciting project we have here at Argyle. "All three have bought into our plans and the plans of the club and are really excited to be here in the South West. "I am pleased to bring them with me so quickly and have them in place ahead of pre-season starting on Friday. The hard work starts now, and we are all looking forward to getting going."

Jets Rookie Poised for Surprise Impact on Offense
Jets Rookie Poised for Surprise Impact on Offense originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Jets selected Georgia wide receiver Arian Smith with the 110th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he could prove this offseason that he deserves a role on the team. Advertisement In a recent article by Bleacher Report's Damian Parson, he picks five underrated rookie who he thinks could make a big impact in their first year in the league. And one of the players he chooses is the former Bulldogs wideout. "Smith's speed and explosiveness work well with manufactured touches... This New York offense should be similar to the Detroit Lions', and Smith could share similar usage as Lions receiver Jameson Williams," Parson wrote. "The Jets are testing Smith out as a returner on special teams... If his momentum transfers to training camp and the preseason, Smith will surely have a sizable impact on this Jets team." The 23-year-old receiver did have a bit of a drop problem when he was at Georgia, but he has reportedly been hard at work with the jugs machine to hopefully helm remedy that issue. In his final year with the Bulldogs, he led the team in receiving yards with 817, and he also had four touchdowns to go with that. Smith also put up some impressive numbers at the NFL Draft Combine, including a 4.36 in the 40-yard dash. Advertisement The Jets are looking for someone to go next to Garrett Wilson on the outside, and Smith could be a very intriguing option for new quarterback Justin Fields to throw to with his explosive athleticism. Jets Ex Davante Adams Reveals Major 'Dark Cloud' Problem
Jets Ex Davante Adams Reveals Major 'Dark Cloud' Problem originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's a funny thing about the so-called "dark cloud'' that hovers over some organizations, the New York Jets included. Advertisement It's so often supposedly never the fault of the people who are paid to bring the sunshine. New coach Aaron Glenn and new GM Darren Mougey went through the roster this offseason and picked it apart. If a guy didn't belong, he was nudged. If a guy didn't want to be here and didn't belong here, he was shoved. Yes, we're talking about you, Aaron Rodgers, the self-appointed "Enigma'' and fresh hero to the Pittsburgh Steelers. And yes, this fits Davante Adams, too, a mid-season acquisition to came to New York as a superstar and pal of Rodgers ... and no, it did not work out. At all. Individually, Davante's numbers were OK for Jets. In 11 games after being traded for from the Raiders in exchange for a third-round pick, he had 67 catches for 854 yards and seven touchdowns. Advertisement But his Jets - yes, his Jets - went 5-12. And the team ended up cutting him. Adams is now with the Los Angeles Rams and saying all the things that high-profile guys say when they land in a new setting. "I feel like this is what I needed just based off the vibe and the aura of the building," Adams said. "And everybody's in a good mood. It's not like a dark cloud over the building. And I've experienced that quite a bit over the last few years. So, it's a glaring difference when you come into a building like this." Oh. We're not arguing about the "dark cloud'' and its existence in New York. What we are doing is wondering how Adams (and Rodgers, too) fail to realize that they were charged with the responsibility clearing the cloud and bringing the sunshine. ... and because they didn't do that, they weren't "under a dark cloud.'' They were themselves part of the dark cloud. Related: Jets Claim to Have Warriors At Key Position This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 15, 2025, where it first appeared.
