Houston Texans schedule 2025: Predictions, picks ahead of NFL schedule release
The 2025 NFL schedule release is just days away, and Houston Texans fans are about to find out what awaits the back-to-back AFC South champions this season.
The Texans are coming off another 10-7 finish behind the duo of DeMeco Ryans and C.J. Stroud. While Houston might have won another AFC South crown, it was expected to make a jump into a contention threat for 2025, but finished with the same record despite spending over $70 million in free agency. There's hope on the horizon with the hiring of new offensive coordinator Nick Caley, but everything falls in line based on the offensive line.
Houston's roster boasts ample talent, including a former Offensive Rookie of the Year in Stroud, receivers Nico Collins, Christian Kirk and Jayden Higgins, tight end Dalton Schultz, as well as All-Pro cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., defensive backs Calen Bullock, C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Kamari Lassiter, defensive tackles Danielle Hunter, Will Anderson Jr. and linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair.
Here's what we know about the 2025 NFL schedule release date.

Houston Texans opponents 2025
The Texans will play the NFC West, AFC East and their fellow AFC South teams twice.
HOME: Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
AWAY: Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, Baltimore Ravens
Texans strength of schedule
The Texans have one of the easiest schedules next season. Houston's 2025 opponents hold a combined win-loss record of 124-114 (.521), ranking as the 25th-most difficult in the NFL. The Texans face the fourth-toughest schedule in the AFC South, trailing the Jaguars (sixth-toughest), Titans (eighth-toughest) and Colts (12th-toughest).
Texans prime time games
The NFL limits teams to six prime-time games in a regular season, meaning the Texans are probably in a lock for three or four games. Houston should have a chance to take on the Bills or Chiefs either on Sunday night or on ESPN's Monday Night Football. There's a chance for a rematch of last season's AFC Wild-Card Round against Los Angeles on Amazon Prime. Other likely prime-time matchups include the Bucaneers, Rams, Seahawks and potentially Jagaurs if Trevor Lawrence and Travis Hunter hold up their end of the bargain.

Texans record prediction 2025
Record prediction: 11-6
Despite strong drafts from Tennessee and Jacksonville, Houston remains the top team in the AFC South entering the summer. Stroud, under the direction of new offensive coordinator Caley, should take a step forward due to the arrival of Jayden Higgins, Jaylin Noel and veteran slot receiver Christian Kirk.
The Texans went 5-1 in the AFC South in 2024. Maybe instead of losing to the Titans, Houston drops a home game against Jacksonville. Even 6-0 isn't far-fetched when considering the status of all three AFC South quarterbacks.
Houston will also face the AFC West and NFC West in non-divisional play, though, which is a tough slate of games. Three AFC West teams made the playoffs in 2024, but the NFC West could be tougher in 2025 with improvements in Arizona and Seattle.
If the defense takes a step forward, Houston could be a top-three unit in the sport. The offense should also take a step forward under Caley with lots of investment via the draft. Add all that up, even if Houston loses six games in non-conference games, so long as it wins four and goes 5-1 in conference play, a third championship is in play.

Myles Garrett Opens Up About Departure Of Teammate
Myles Garrett Opens Up About Departure Of Teammate originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Nick Chubb possessed all the tools of a bell cow backfield star from what he showed in 2019 through 2022. That all changed after a gruesome leg injury ended his 2023 campaign in the second game of the season. Advertisement Chubb's return to the field last season was lackluster at best, averaging 3.3 yards per carry on 102 touches in a reserved rile with the Cleveland Browns. It was a sharp and set turn of fate for Chubb who was set to be a cornerstone piece of the franchise's built to consistent contention. But just two years after that Week 2 contest in September of 2023, Chubb was an offseason afterthought eventually scooped up by the Houston Texans. It's the harsh reality of the NFL and one that his own teammates had trouble coming to terms with. Browns defensive star Myles Garrett opened up about his time with Chubb, revealing his own efforts pleading with the higher ups to keep his teammate in town. 'That was part of my talks with (Andrew Berry) a couple of months ago, asking about the situation with Nick and how that's going to work out, and how we can get him back here,' Garrett said. 'I know he means a lot to the fans, but he means a lot to us in the locker room. So, it's an emotional blow to not have him here." Advertisement After it all, Garrett has nothing but praise for Chubb though he knows there is a crop of players ready and able to positively impact this Browns offense. 'But we've got to keep on moving, keep on trucking. We've got some very talented backs in that room, some young, hungry guys who have a hell of an example to watch and some shoes to fill. But he's one of the best to ever do it in the Brown and Orange, and we appreciate everything he's done.' Looking through a more positive lens, this is the second chance Chubb yearned for all offseason and advocated for through his own promotion. If he can build off that momentum and make an impact in Houston, that achievement should be celebrated. However, it will be hard for Garrett, his teammates and Browns fans not to wonder what could have been had his career not taken such a nasty turn. 93 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No. 93?
The Houston Texans are less than 100 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has won No. 93 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 93 No. 93 currently belongs to Kurt Hinish, who's back on a one-year deal after missing chunks of last season due to injury. He's been a solid depth piece since joining Houston as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame in 2022, but he's not the best player to don the number in the last 20 years. Advertisement DL Kurt Hinish (2022-present) DL Jaleel Johnson (2021) DL Joel Heath (2016-2019) DL Jared Crick (2012-2015) DL Tim Bulman (2007-2009, 2011) DE Jason Babin (2004-2006) LB Kevin DeRonde (2003) DL Erick Flowers (2002) Best Player: Jason Babin Babin might be better known for his time in Seattle or Philadelphia, but he kick-started his success as a pass-rusher in Houston. The former first-round pick notched 13 sacks and 25 tackles for loss before being shipped off to the Seahawks in 2007. Babin's breakout year in Tennessee with 12.5 sacks eventually led to a megadeal with the Eagles on a five-year contract. He terrorized the Texans during his brief stay in Nashville, but he'll always be remembered -- at least for the time being -- as the best player to wear No. 93. WATCH: Texans QB C.J. Stroud returns to practice, throwing during minicamp
Houston Texans fans can exhale a sigh of relief following the start of Tuesday's mandatory minicamp at the Methodist Training Center. Third-year Pro Bowl quarterback C.J. Stroud threw passes for the first time in almost a month during the opening of Tuesday's minicamp practice. He connected on several completions to Pro Bowl wide receiver Nico Collins and rookie Jayden Higgins that caught the eye of reporters in practice. Advertisement Here's a look at several throws during the early stages of team drills. Stroud was kept from throwing during the Texans' OTA practices over the last two weeks because he was dealing with 'general soreness' in his throwing shoulder, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans. Both Ryans and first-year offensive coordinator Nick Caley said that they weren't concerned with Stroud missing reps and he'd be ready to go ahead of training camp. Stroud is in a pivotal year for the Texans after leading the franchise to back-to-back division titles. With a pair of losses in the divisional round, Houston spent the offeseason trying to revamp the offense and put the franchise quarterback in a better position to succeed. Advertisement While Stroud didn't throw during team drills, the fact that he was throwing at practice in general is a promising sign. Houston could elevate his reps on Wednesday's practice to close out minicamp with the media. The Texans open the regular season on the road against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Sept. 7.
