Bokaro: A road construction project, the foundation of which was laid under the Chief Minister Gram Sadak Yojana in Dantu village, has stirred a political controversy after its stone plaque was found vandalised 24 hours after Giridih MP of opposition Ajsu-P, Chandraprakash Chaudhary, performed 'Bhoomi Pujan' at the project site.

According to villagers, the road project, connecting Ravidas Tola to Jara Haluma, was initially inaugurated online by chief minister Hemant Soren on September 13, 2024. However, a 'Bhoomi Pujan' was organised on June 5, led by Chaudhary in the presence of departmental junior engineer Sameer Kumar Das, local mukhiya Chandrashekhar Nayak and several villagers. Drinking water minister Yogendra Prasad's name was also inscribed on the plaque though he did not attend the event.
By Friday morning, the plaque was discovered shattered by unknown miscreants. This triggered sharp reactions from Ajsu-P supporters and local residents, who expressed outrage and called it an act of political sabotage.
Chaudhary condemned the act, calling it a "clear violation of the law" and branding the perpetrators as "anti-development elements". He urged the district administration to identify and take strict action against those responsible for the vandalism.
JMM's Kasmar block president Dilip Hembram denied the party's involvement in the vandalism and claimed that Chaudhary overstepped his authority by performing the Bhoomi Pujan for a state govt scheme.

JPC meeting on ‘One Nation, One Election' commences at Parliament House

Noted economist NK Singh is set to depose before the panel. Singh is a former Rajya Sabha Member, Chairman of the Fifteenth Finance Commission of India, former Member of the Planning Commission, former Revenue Secretary, and Secretary to the former Prime Minister. New Delhi: The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meeting on 'One Nation One Election' was convened on Wednesday at the Parliament House. He will be assisted by Dr Prachi Mishra, Professor of Economics and Head and Director of the Isaac Centre for Public Policy, Ashoka University, during the deposition. Earlier, the JPC had met on July 11 and held interactions with legal experts, including former Chief Justices of India, Justice J S Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud. Following the meeting, Committee Chairman P P Chaudhary had described the initiative as a golden opportunity for the panel to contribute to nation-building, with all members focused on preparing robust legislation. 'Today, a meeting was held for the 'One Nation, One Election'… Former CJIs Justice Khehar and Justice Chandrachud…were present before us, and we had an interaction. This is a golden opportunity for this committee for nation-building… All the members of the committee are above the party politics and are focused on preparing a good 'One Nation, One Election' Bill,' Chaudhary told ANI. He also stated that both committee members and the experts agreed on the significance of the initiative. In addition to the CJIs, the panel had heard views from former MP and ex-chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law and Justice, E M S Natchiappan. Members present during the previous meeting included Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Manish Tewari, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Bhubaneswar Kalita, Saket Gokhale, Shambhavi Choudhary, and Bhartruhari Mahtab. Responding to media queries, Chaudhary noted that the panel was consulting judges as they are constitutional experts who remain impartial and are concerned solely with the legal framework. PP Chaudhary, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, said the committee was examining possible amendments to ensure that the Bill stands judicial scrutiny and facilitates the implementation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'One Nation, One Election'.The JPC chief also discussed the panel's visit to five states and a union territory, noting that they received valuable inputs. He said that many political leaders, civil society members, and officials backed the proposal. The JPC is currently examining the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024. These bills propose aligning the election cycles of the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies to enable simultaneous elections. In September 2024, the Union Cabinet had accepted recommendations of the High-Level Committee on Simultaneous Elections, chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind. The Committee had recommended a two-step approach to lead to simultaneous elections. It said that as the first step, simultaneous elections will be held for the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies. It said that in the second step, elections to the Municipalities and the Panchayats will be synchronised with Lok Sabha and assemblies in such a way that these are held within a hundred days of holding elections to the House of the People and the state legislative assemblies. The Committee had also recommended that there should be a single electoral roll and Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) for use in elections to all three tiers of government. The Committee had said that its recommendations will significantly enhance transparency, inclusivity, ease and confidence of the voters. (ANI) This report is auto-generated from ANI news service. Jagdeep Dhankhar sought bulletproof vehicles from MHA, but picked Innova months before quitting. Here's why

The Vice President's Secretariat had sought new bulletproof vehicles for then V-P Jagdeep Dhankhar, citing the age of his three high-security BMW cars, in February 2024, according to a report In June, the Ministry of Home Affairs had informed about a panel to be formed to look into the request. But by November, 2024 the former V-P's office decided to opt for a non-bulletproof Innova, instead, the report in Indian Express said. The Indian Express report quotes a February 28, 2024 letter sent from the V-P's Secretariat to the Additional Secretary (Police Modernisation Division), MHA, regarding the condition of his official vehicles. The then deputy secretary in the V-P's Secretariat wrote in the letter that two of the three bulletproof BMW High Security vehicles have been provided to the Hon'ble Vice President of India for day-to-day movement have become more than six years old. The third one, the letter said, is almost four years and five months old and 'will also become more than five years old in the next couple of months.' 'It has been further directed to get all three vehicles replaced with bulletproof high-security new vehicles. It is requested to get the process of replacement of three vehicles initiated at the earliest,' the letter quoted by Indian Express reads A similar letter had been sent to the security division of Delhi Police, which clarified that procurement of vehicles is handled by the MHA, according to sources. The Vice-President gets Z-plus security cover provided by Delhi Police. The under-secretary in the MHA wrote to the V-P's Secretariat on June 12, 2024 informing about a board of officers to be formed to inspect the three vehicles in question. On November 28, however, an internal communication issued by Delhi Police said the V-P's Secretariat had changed Dhankhar's bulletproof vehicles since their 'life term of five years' was over. The new vehicle was an Innova, while the spare vehicle was a Fortuner, and neither was bulletproof, the communication read. The OSD and Secretary to the Vice President were informed that these vehicles are not bulletproof and if required, such vehicles could be sought from Delhi Police, but this was turned down, according to the report quoting sources. Jagdeep Dhankhar stepped down as Vice President of India citing health reasons on July 21. The life term of five years was over for the vehicles, prompting a switch to non-bulletproof options. The Congress party-led Opposition, however, has dismissed the explanation of medical issues behind the 74-year-old's abrupt move, claiming instead that 'far deeper reasons' are at play. The resignation came on the first day of Monsoon Session of Parliament. Dhankhar had an action-packed day at the House of Elders, as the Rajya Sabha is called, before tendering resignation.
