The chilling details of the crime, which took place in Taraila village under Sudhed Panchayat, 5 kms from Dharamshala, have now emerged from police sources
The gruesome murder of 45-year-old Vineet Kumar, brother of a former local Pradhan in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, was solved within 24 hours with the police arresting his 17-year-old son as the prime accused. The arrest was made in Gurdaspur, Punjab, late on Sunday night.
The chilling details of the crime, which took place in Taraila village under Sudhed Panchayat, 5 kms from Dharamshala, have now emerged from police sources.
According to officials, Vineet's son, a Class 11 student, allegedly shot his father in the head at close range using the latter's licensed gun, shattering his skull. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when no other family members were present at home. The teenager is said to have fled immediately on a motorcycle, taping over the number plate and carrying a bag filled with cash, live cartridges, and clothes.
SP (additional charge) Ashok Ratna confirmed the arrest in a press briefing on Monday but refrained from disclosing the motive, citing the accused's minor status. However, sources revealed that the boy had been in 'bad company" in recent months and had even stolen a purse, prompting a scolding from his father. The continuous reprimands reportedly fuelled resentment, and the son had been watching revenge-themed videos on his phone before the murder.
The crime came to light when Vineet's brother returned home in the evening and found the victim lying in a pool of blood, with splatters on the walls.
SP Ratna stated that the accused, being a minor, will be booked under the Juvenile Justice Act. The post-mortem has been completed, and the boy will be produced before the court on Wednesday.

Telangana HC orders release of 18-year-old from children's home after ‘illegal detention' plea

The Telangana High Court on Wednesday ordered the immediate release of an 18-year-old woman in a habeas corpus case involving her 'illegal detention' in a government children's home in Hyderabad. Rescued from sex trafficking in 2018, the woman—then a minor—has been in the state's protective custody for over seven years now, even though those accused of trafficking her were discharged of all offences in 2023. The division bench of Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya and Justice Gadi Praveen Kumar allowed the writ petition moved by the woman's aunt, who was earlier discharged by the Telangana High Court of offences under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956. Involved in a sex trafficking and prostitution case in Yadagirigutta in Bhongir district, the minor had been placed in various Child Care Institutions, including the NGO Prajwala, since 2018. The petitioner argued that her niece was being illegally detained despite having reached adulthood and facing no pending charges. Prajwala moved an implead petition in the case, opposing the woman's release on the grounds that she should continue to reside in the government home for the sake of rehabilitation and support. However, the petitioner's counsel opposed this, stating that the 18-year-old's detention was a violation of her freedom and went against the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, as she was now an adult. The counsel also contended that the woman's detention was being extended despite there being no pending offences and that it was against the law laid down in the Juvenile Justice Act. Justice Bhattacharya observed that if the woman is an adult, she is free to go wherever she wishes. While the government pleader stated the state's only interest was to provide support, the court determined that the woman was being held against her will. 'Considering the overall circumstances, we, however, deem it fit to direct the CWC [Child Welfare Committee] Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district to periodically enquire about the welfare of the detenue, preferably, once every month,' Justice Bhattacharya said, adding, 'The detenue shall be at liberty getting in touch with the CWC in case the detenue needs any assistance, including for her aspirations.'

21-Year-Old Muslim Boy Beaten To Death In Maharashtra For Chatting With Girl, 4 Arrested

Last Updated: Suleiman Khan, 20, was beaten to death by ten people in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. Four suspects were arrested; police are looking for the mastermind. A 20-year-old Muslim man was allegedly beaten to death by ten persons in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra after they spotted him chatting with a girl of other faith. Police have arrested four individuals so far. Police suspect an old enmity led to the murder of Suleiman Khan, who was preparing for the police recruitment exam. The four accused were produced before a local court, which remanded them in police custody even as a search for the mastermind of the crime is underway. Khan, a resident of Betawad Khurd village, had gone to Jamner to fill the form for a police recruitment exam on Monday. He was chatting with a girl in a cafe when ten individuals confronted him and started beating him, a police official said. The attackers forced Khan to accompany them to his village, where he was assaulted with sticks and iron rods at the bus stand, he said. When Khan's family members tried to break up the fight, they were also beaten up. Khan was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead, the official said. The incident created tension in Jamner, leading to the deployment of a posse of police personnel in sensitive areas. Khan's relatives and locals gathered at Jamner police station on Monday night, demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits and stringent action. A case was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) for kidnapping, rioting, and murder. 'Prima facie, an old enmity between two groups is the cause behind the incident. We are investigating the case from various angles," the official said. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
