Amidst action on nightclubs, new one opens with ‘fair-skinned' dancers

Time of India31-07-2025
Nagpur: The police department would be verifying allegation against a new nightclub, which was inaugurated in the heart of the city on Wednesday, after a viral video showed a couple of "fair-skinned" dancers gyrating to entertain the guests on the inaugural day.
The nightclub incident happened when police had begun a crack down on nightlife in the city.
While city police were closing rooftop restros, pubs, and taking action against lounges and nightclubs in Bajaj Nagar, Rana Pratap Nagar, Sonegaon, Dharampeth for breaching timing norms, a new one was being inaugurated with pomp and show. Sources said Bajaj Nagar police rushed to the nightclub after being alerted about alleged violations and noise.
It's still not clear what action was initiated by the Bajajnagar police, but the complainant's objection was taken on record. Sources said the opening ceremony continued even after the objection, as cops found nothing unusual at the venue. The invitees for the ceremony included city's crème de la crème, including top officials.
While sources claimed the dancers could be foreign nationals, zonal DCP Rishikesh Reddy said he would verify the allegations about the nightclub overstepping the the Foreigners Act, which makes permission mandatory for performances by overseas artists.
"We informed the management of the new nightlife establishment to avoid rooftop celebrations, which are prohibited. If they have violated any norms, legal actions would follow," said Reddy, who this week suspended operations of three Saoji food joints for allowing liquor on their premises.
Sources said the city police, following instructions from CP Ravinder Singal, are strictly enforcing the rule for closing pubs, lounges and such places within the permissible limit of 1.30am. The crime branch has started a crack down on illegal hookah parlours and such joints in west Nagpur.

Bangladeshi man illegally living in India for 19 years held at Mumbai airport

Mumbai, Aug 13 (PTI) A Bangladeshi national illegally living in India for the past 19 years was arrested at the Mumbai airport while trying to fly to Saudi Arabia on an Indian passport, secured through fake documents, an official said on Wednesday. According to the Sahar police official, Aktaruzzaman Aman Ullah, had earlier stayed in Saudi Arabia on a work permit using his 'Indian" identity. Aktaruzzaman entered the country from Bangladesh through the 24 South Pargana district of West Bengal in 2006. He subsequently got bogus documents to show himself as an Indian and even got a passport in 2015, the official said. The man lost the passport in 2018 but again managed to get another issued from Kolkata, he said. In 2020, Aktaruzzaman went to Saudi Arabia and spent five years there on a work visa. He returned to India on May 18 this year and flew to Bangladesh on May 29. After spending around a month, he flew to Mumbai on June 26. However, Aktaruzzaman ran out of luck on Tuesday before attempting to board a flight to Dammam in Saudi Arabia, the official said. Finding that Aktaruzzaman had recently travelled to Bangladesh, the immigration officer sought to know the purpose of his visit. However, Aktaruzzaman could not provide a satisfactory answer. The immigration team then interrogated him. Unable to withstand sustained questioning, Aktaruzzaman told the immigration staff that he was a Bangladeshi national and had been illegally living in India since 2006. The man was taken to the Sahar police station and arrested under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Passport Act and the Foreigners Act. Further investigation is underway, the official added. Red Sandalwood Worth Rs 40 Lakh Seized From House In Andhra Pradesh Village

Red sandalwood logs worth Rs 40 lakh have been seized from a house in a village in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor District. Acting on specific intelligence, officials of the Palamaneru forest department raided the house of a man identified as Bhaskar Reddy in Alapalli Kothuru village on Monday. "The team seized 144 A-grade red sandalwood logs worth Rs 40 lakh," said an official. "Reddy is on the run. Efforts are on to trace him," the official added. Andhra Pradesh has been cracking down on the illegal trade of red sandalwood, a species that is native and endemic to the state's forests. The wood is highly sought after internationally, particularly in countries like China and Japan, where it is used for furniture, carvings, and traditional medicines. This high demand has fuelled a multi-crore smuggling industry.
