Bangladeshi man illegally living in India for 19 years held at Mumbai airport

News182 days ago
Mumbai, Aug 13 (PTI) A Bangladeshi national illegally living in India for the past 19 years was arrested at the Mumbai airport while trying to fly to Saudi Arabia on an Indian passport, secured through fake documents, an official said on Wednesday.
According to the Sahar police official, Aktaruzzaman Aman Ullah, had earlier stayed in Saudi Arabia on a work permit using his 'Indian" identity.
Aktaruzzaman entered the country from Bangladesh through the 24 South Pargana district of West Bengal in 2006. He subsequently got bogus documents to show himself as an Indian and even got a passport in 2015, the official said.
The man lost the passport in 2018 but again managed to get another issued from Kolkata, he said.
In 2020, Aktaruzzaman went to Saudi Arabia and spent five years there on a work visa. He returned to India on May 18 this year and flew to Bangladesh on May 29. After spending around a month, he flew to Mumbai on June 26.
However, Aktaruzzaman ran out of luck on Tuesday before attempting to board a flight to Dammam in Saudi Arabia, the official said.
Finding that Aktaruzzaman had recently travelled to Bangladesh, the immigration officer sought to know the purpose of his visit. However, Aktaruzzaman could not provide a satisfactory answer. The immigration team then interrogated him.
Unable to withstand sustained questioning, Aktaruzzaman told the immigration staff that he was a Bangladeshi national and had been illegally living in India since 2006.
The man was taken to the Sahar police station and arrested under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Passport Act and the Foreigners Act. Further investigation is underway, the official added. PTI ZA NR

BJP slams Rahul Gandhi over Jagdish Tytler's presence at I-Day flag hoisting

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has attacked the Congress after the 1984 Sikh riots accused Jagdish Tytler was seen at the party headquarters during the Independence Day flag leader Amit Malviya, in a post on X, said: "Jagdish Tytler, the man who unleashed genocide on Sikhs at Rajiv Gandhi's behest, is once again seen alongside Rahul Gandhi at the Congress HQ. Some stains don't wash away, no matter how much time passes. The Gandhis are unapologetic too."advertisementBJP leader Radhika Khera also took aim at the Congress, posting on X: "On August 15, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who was absent from the traditional Red Fort event, was present at the Congress headquarters to hoist the national flag. Behind him stood the same accused killer of the 1984 Sikh genocide, Jagdish Tytler, whose bloody hands were covered up by his father Rajiv Gandhi, calling it a 'natural reaction'. Even on the day of patriotism, the 'prince' stands with a rioter. This is the true face of Congress: a legacy of conspiracy and treachery against the nation. And yes, this is the same Indira Bhawan from where Rahul announced a 'fight against the Indian state'." Responding to the BJP's attack, Congress spokesperson Shama Mohammad defended the party and countered: "Jagdish Tytler is not convicted but convicted rapists who gang raped Bilkis Bano (who was 7 months pregnant) and other women in her family, killed her 2-year-old daughter by crushing her skull to the wall, were released by Narendra Modi and used for campaigning in the 2022 assembly election! That's horrific. So shut up Amit Malviya."- EndsTune InMust Watch IN THIS STORY#Rahul Gandhi#Independence Day 2025

Indians confront Khalistan backers during Independence Day celebrations in Melbourne

Indian nationals confronted pro-Khalistan supporters during the 79th Independence Day celebrations at the Indian Embassy in Melbourne, Australia on Friday. As Indian community members in Melbourne gathered at the embassy to hoist the Indian national flag, a group of Khalistani supporters held a protest and attempted to disrupt the event. The incident was captured on camera, and the video is circulating on social media. To counter the Khalistani protest, Indian community members sang patriotic songs loudly. The development comes amid rising Khalistani activities in several parts of Australia. Recently, a Swaminarayan Temple in Melbourne and two Asian restaurants were defaced with hate graffiti. In a separate incident, a 23-year-old Indian man was attacked in Adelaide over a parking issue. In December 2024, a group of Khalistani sympathisers clashed with Indian cricket fans during the fourth Test match between India and Australia, and raised anti-India slogans. Earlier, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar had urged countries such as Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia not to give space to Khalistani extremists. "These radical extremist ideologies aren't good for us, them, or our ties," he had said. Last week, the Punjab Police apprehended two people, including a juvenile, after pro-Khalistan slogans appeared at three locations in Amritsar city. US-based head of banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, claimed responsibility for the act in a video on social media, the police had said. Amritsar Commissionerate Police cracked the graffiti case by arresting two accused persons, including a minor, within 24 hours, said Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav. Those arrested have been identified as Jashanpreet Singh (22), a resident of Dargabad village in Batala, and a 17-year-old boy, the DGP said. He said preliminary investigation revealed that both the arrested were in contact with foreign-based Shamsher Singh alias Shera Maan, who directed them to carry out the act on instructions from Pannu.
