Celtic have "some more" players to recruit, says manager Brendan Rodgers as the new season nears.
New striker Shin Yamada was introduced to fans before the Scottish champions beat Newcastle United 4-0 in Saturday's friendly.
The Japan international, 25, is one of three attacking players signed by Rodgers so far this summer, with winger Benjamin Nygren and striker Callum Osmand also coming in. Hayato Inamura and Kieran Tierney have also bolstered Celtic's defence.
"We've got a lot more to come, we've got some more to bring in also," Rodgers told club media.
"We need to and we want to get some more from the squad, some more players to come in and support the guys that are already here."
Inamura started against Newcastle, while Nygren and Tierney came on as a second-half substitutes.
Rodgers described Celtic's performance as "very impressive", with Arne Engels scoring a penalty and Johnny Kenny netting before half-time. Yang Hyun-jun scored the hosts' third and Tierney set up fellow sub Liam Scales for the fourth.
Celtic face Ajax in Italy on Thursday and will then take on either tournament hosts Como or Al-Ahli on 26 or 27 July, before starting their Premiership defence at home to Kilmarnock on 3 August.

Liverpool target Alexander Isak left out of Newcastle squad for pre-season tour

Alexander Isak has not travelled to Singapore for pre-season with his Newcastle teammates amid reports that Liverpool remain interested in signing him. The Swede has been at the centre of constant transfer rumours this summer after he found the back of the net 27 times last season. He was left out of Eddie Howe's squad for last week's friendly loss to Celtic, with the manager later confirming that the decision was due to speculation surrounding Isak's future. Despite Newcastle's insistence that the striker is not for sale, Liverpool remain interested. They confirmed a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike yesterday, but are still thought to be weighing up a move. They were said to be willing to offer £120million earlier this month, with Saudi sides also circling. Newcastle said in a statement that Isak was left behind to recover from a minor thigh injury, though reports released earlier this week stated that preliminary scans had come back clear. Isak, who moved to Tyneside from Real Sociedad in 2022, has been left unsettled by the speculation surrounding his future. Speaking after the Celtic friendly, Howe told reporters that he was 'desperate' to keep Isak at St James' Park next season. 'I think it's difficult for me to ever give 100 per cent clarity on any player, I'd never do that,' he said of Isak's future. 'All I can say is Alex is happy at Newcastle, he loves the players, the staff, the team. 'I've never had any issue with him and I'm confident he's going to be here at the start of the season. "We have a few of those players who are irreplaceable. Your top players are so hard to find, so hard to recruit, and so hard to develop. So when you have them, you need to treasure them. Of course we're desperate to keep him as part of our team."

Rowing club awarded £17k grant to expand activities

A rowing club has received a funding boost to help expand its activities and reach more people in the community. Tenby Rowing Club has been awarded a £17,736 grant from Sport Wales' Be Active Wales Fund, supported by National Lottery funding. The money will be used to buy a new Celtic longboat, a trailer, and support training for club members. Jane Haigh, club captain, said: "We're absolutely thrilled to receive this funding. "It's a real game changer for us. "The new boat, trailer, and training will help us grow even more and give more people the chance to get involved. "It's all about making rowing accessible, fun, and part of our community." The club, reformed in 2024, now has around 50 members and is preparing for the start of the 2025 race season. There are plans to bring an event to Tenby in 2026.

Former 76ers guard drawing interest from Golden State in free agency

While many of free agency's top names have already signed deals this summer, several notable players remain on the market. One of them — former Philadelphia 76ers guard De'Anthony Melton — could be headed back to the Golden State Warriors. According to Anthony Slater of ESPN, the Warriors are reportedly interested in bringing Melton back following an injury-shortened 2024-25 campaign. 'They're also looking for perimeter defense,' Slater said. 'There is mutual interest in a reunion with De'Anthony Melton, who played only six games for them last year before he tore an ACL. It was a really good fit — Steph Curry likes him.' Melton spent two years with the Sixers before joining the Warriors last season. In Philadelphia, he averaged 10.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.6 steals across 27.4 minutes per game in 115 regular-season appearances. He was later traded to the Brooklyn Nets in December as part of the Dennis Schroder trade. Now a free agent, Melton could return to Golden State, where he would likely earn meaningful playing time behind Curry and Brandin Podziemski. A strong perimeter defender and capable three-point shooter, Melton will likely have multiple suitors despite coming off the knee injury. Still, a reunion with the Warriors appears to be a logical fit. Over his seven-year NBA career, the former second-round pick has averaged 9.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 36.9 percent from three-point range in 22.4 minutes per game.
