A TOP Dyson designer has revealed exactly how fast to move your vacuum cleaner – and going slower can actually save you time.
It turns out that racing around your house isn't necessarily the best way to get the cleaning out of the way quickly.

Vacuuming an entire house can be a bit of a nightmare, especially if you've got loads of furniture, carpets, and a dog or cat.
So going fast can be tempting now that vacuum cleaners are often wireless and lightweight – just look at Dyson's impossibly thin new PencilVac.
SPEED TEST
I took a trip to Dyson's Oxfordshire campus where I heard from Dyson designer Jonny Gray, who revealed the exact speed you'll want to be moving your vacuum cleaner.
"To be exact, about 0.3 metres a second is probably where you want to be in terms of speed," Jonny explained.
That's a 30cm ruler, so if you imagine moving across one of those every second, you're getting it right.
"I'm sorry to say that the slower you go, the cleaner your floors will be," Jonny said.
Of course, he warned that you can also end up going too slow.
The Dyson design whiz said you'll get "diminishing returns the more you go over it".
So it's important to not go too slow or fast – and stick to the 30cm rule.
"The IEC standards that we get are 0.5 metres a second," Jonny, Senior Design Manager at Dyson, told us.

"But we have demonstrated that you get around 100% pick-up over the course of three passes with 0.3 metres a second speed."
If you rush around, your vacuum cleaner will end up missing bits.
And if you go too slow, you're simply wasting time – and it won't be worth the wait.
FOOD FOR FLOORS
Jonny, who works on vacuum cleaners at Dyson's gigantic Malmesbury campus, spends time trying to pick up all manner of difficult debris.

And he also told The Sun that Cheerios are one of the trickiest things for a vacuum cleaner to collect due to their size.
But he warned that US-style Froot Loops are even trickier to collect.
Dog biscuits are also difficult for vacuum cleaners to pick up, Jonny revealed.
But the brainy Dyson designer explained that if you follow the 30cm rule, you should be able to get a "100% pick-up" rate – even during a nightmare Cheerio spillage.
WHAT'S IN DYSON'S SECRET FOOD CUPBOARD?
Here's what The Sun's tech editor Sean Keach found inside the Dyson cupboard... Porridge oats
Rice
Pasta
Long-grain rice
Nylon pieces
Japanese sushi rice
Japanese tea leaves
Sugar
Bread crumbs
Finishing plaster
Cotton wool balls
Cheerios
Popping corn
Cat food
Hair
Tapioca pearls
Froot Loops
Dog biscuits
Bicarbonate of soda
Cat litter

Dyson's Lab includes a cupboard filled with different materials for testing with its vacuum cleaners.
That includes porridge oats, British and even American rice, sugar, cotton wool, and cat litter.
And they even have Japanese sushi rice and tea leaves, to make sure that the vacuum cleaners they flog to Japan are up to snuff.

I tried a £19.99 Home Bargains fan - now I can't live without it

With another heatwave underway, now is the ideal time to get your hands on a fan to help bring the temperature down in your home With temperatures high - and staying that way - this week, many people will be desperately looking for ways to stay cool. I've always struggled with finding the right temperature no matter the weather; I'm always too hot or too cold. However, I might have finally found a good solution. I bought a £19.99 fan from Home Bargains last year and pulled it out of winter retirement this week to deal with a heatwave. And what a lifesaver it has been. ‌ Cool, compact and quiet, the fan has proven to be a must-have that I couldn't live without. The Pifco 32" Oscillating Tower Fan is also incredibly cheap for what you get, especially considering the high price tags often attached to similar devices. ‌ The fan stands around 84cm tall, making it discreet enough to have in any room and compact enough to store away when not being used. It is much more powerful that a desk fan or some of the smaller devices you'll find on the high street, but may not be quite as impressive as a Dyson or Shark product. However, the tower fan is still relatively strong, releasing an impressive amount of airflow, making it perfect for use in almost any situation. It comes with three speed settings and an oscillating function. Super easy to use, the fan is operated using a dial on the top, and can be set to levels one, two or three, in a fixed position or oscillating. It is mains powered, making it easy to move around into different rooms in your home. The three impressive speeds mean I can swap and change depending on how I feel or how warm it is. I can keep it on one to enjoy a gentle breeze when I'm working at my desk, ramp it up if I'm busy around the house, or switch it up to three for those incredibly warm evenings when I'm struggling to sleep. I can also confirm that it really is quiet and it just emits just a gentle hum, so low that I'm able to sleep through it. ‌ However, the only thing that lets the product down is the somewhat short power cable. It is only around a metre long, which makes it difficult for those with plug sockets that are few and far between. The £19.99 fan is a great buy and can be snapped up in Home Bargains stores now. If your local store doesn't have stock or you don't mind waiting a few days, the retailer stocks the fan online too. Some shoppers could be eligible for Home Bargains' free Saver Delivery option when spending £100 online. The retailer offers 'hassle free' returns to stores too. Home Bargains also stocks a range of other fans, including the £16.99 Pifco 16" Stand Fan or the smaller Pifco 14" Oscillating Tower Fan for £14.99. For those who prefer a much smaller, personal cooling device, there's the £2.99 Pifco 4" USB Mini Desk Fan or the Pifco Clip-On Fan, priced at £7.99.

EXCLUSIVE Sneak attack Iran could use on AMERICA: urgent warning as war threatens to spiral out of control

As the conflict in Iran reaches a critical tipping point for the US, a cyberwarfare expert has warned that an attack by Iranian hackers is not just possible, it's likely. James Knight, who has over 25 years of experience in digital security, told the Daily Mail that Americans should be prepared for bank disruptions and potential blackouts if the US officially enters the fighting between Israel and Iran.

The latest software in the tech giant's smart watch line introduces unrivalled health features, but also an update that could alienate millions of its existing users. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 Samsung's new update could see customers charged a monthly fee Credit: AFP Samsung announced its new One UI 8 Watch update for Galaxy Watches on Monday. The tech company is exploring the introduction of a premium subscription model, comparable to Garmin's Connect Plus and Fitbit Premium, according to senior vice president Hon Pak in an interview with CNET. But who will be affected? Well, with only one month until its official release, Samsung has yet to announce who will have to pay to access this functionality, and also how much it will cost. READ MORE IN TECH JUICY APPLE Apple fans SAVE MONEY on costly gadget upgrades as firm expands major service Pak told CNET: "We believe wellness isn't just one thing. It's activity, nutrition, mental health, and sleep combined. "What we really think we can do is bring this data about sleep, nutrition, activity and stress, and really contextualize it for the user," Pak added. Samsung first launched its smartwatches with the Samsung Galaxy Gear in September 2013. This watch update comes one year after the tech giant unveiled the Galaxy Watch 7, which retailed at £289. The update will debut with the imminent release of the Galaxy Watch 8 series next month, but is currently undergoing a trial phase. The One UI 8 Watch Beta Programme will be launched in select countries and will be accessible to those with compatible older watches. Available in both the USA and South Korea for customers who enrol in the programme, the update will give them access to unprecedented health features before anyone else. The update, once released, will give users a variety of health features, including a non-invasive Antioxidant Index check, Bedtime Guidance, AI Running Coach, and Vascular Load. The reason behind having such innovative and unrivalled features is that the company aims to make a more proactive health monitor to help stand out in a market full of like-for-like fitness trackers. Who gets these features? The soon-to-be-released update and watch form part of Samsung's goal of making clinical-level insights accessible at home. While the features will make an official debut with the arrival of the new Galaxy watch in July, it will be available on some older models. The compatibility for each device will depend on whether it has advanced LED sensory, which will be essential to power these premium functions. Therefore, more complex features, Vascular Load and Antioxidant Index, will be available only on any watch after and including Galaxy Watch Ultra, with the AI Running Coach available on the Galaxy Watch 7 or later. How much does it cost? Samsung are also considering a change to how they charge their customers to access the feature. It is not known how much this may cost. The Sun has approached Samsung for a comment.
