‘Bogus votes were created': DK Shivakumar backs Rahul Gandhi's claims against EC in Karnataka

'We conducted research in many booths of Karnataka, especially in the urban sectors, where we found that votes were shifted there from various places without any proper documents. All bogus votes were created… We will present this evidence to the election commission. Whether they agree or not, that's a different issue. We will present it in front of the people too… A very big injustice has been given to those assembly segments. Our constituencies have been affected with this…. I stand by his statement,' DK Shivakumar said.
Speaking to ANI, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister stated that Congress party has conducted research in many booths and found that votes were shifted 'without' any proper documents.
New Delhi: Extending his support to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's allegations against the Election Commission in Karnataka, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar on Saturday said that bogus votes were found in several urban booths across the state and the matter would be brought to the notice of the public and the poll body.
His statement came after Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of indulging in 'cheating' during the voter list revision process in a Karnataka constituency.
On July 24, Gandhi claimed to have '100 per cent' proof of the alleged manipulation, which involves adding and deleting voters, but hasn't presented any evidence yet.
He alleged that thousands of new voters aged 50, 60, and 65 have been added to the list in a single constituency and eligible voters above 18 have been removed from the list.
'Today we have 100 per cent proof of Election Commission allowing cheating in a seat in Karnataka. When we decide to show it to you, it is 100 per cent proof. We just looked at one constituency and we found this. I am absolutely convinced that constituency after constituency this is the drama. Thousands of new votes, aged 50 or 60, 65 (are there) in one constituency. Then voter deletion, people who are way above 18,' he said.
The opposition parties, including Congress and Samajwadi Party, have been protesting against the SIR exercise, alleging that it's an attempt to disenfranchise voters, particularly from marginalised communities. They claim that the process is being used to remove names from the voters' list, which could impact the outcome of upcoming assembly elections.

Malegaon blast verdict: M.P. BJP leaders seek apology from Congress, Digvijaya Singh

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday (July 31, 2025) demanded apologies from the Congress for 'crafting narratives like Hindu terrorism' after a court acquitted all seven accused, including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur, in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. A special NIA court in Mumbai, in its judgment, said that the prosecution 'failed to prove the case' and that the accused 'deserved the benefit of doubt' while acquitting Ms. Thakur, Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit and five others. Six people had lost their lives in the blast on September 29, 2008, in Malegaon city of Maharashtra's Nashik district. Former M.P. Chief Minister Uma Bharti welcomed the verdict and said that the case was used to 'draft a theory of saffron terrorism' while accusing Congress leader and former CM Digvijaya Singh of being its 'originator'. 'The definition of saffron terrorism was coined during this case. Its originator was Digvijaya Singh ji and he was doing this work at the behest of [Congress leader] Rahul Gandhi. To defame Hindutva all over the world, the term saffron terrorism was coined in comparison to Islamic terrorism. And to prove the term, innocent people were made victims,' Ms. Bharti said, while claiming that Ms. Thakur and Lt. Col. Purohit faced severe torture in prison. While specifying that terrorism has no colour, Ms. Bharti claimed that the term 'saffron terrorism' was coined by those who were trying to appease the minorities. She asked what action will be taken against those who 'conspired against the Hindu community'. M.P. CM Mohan Yadav also took to X to hail the verdict and said that it is a 'blow to the Congress' narrow-minded mentality'. 'This verdict is a strong response to those who insult Sanatan Dharma, sadhus-saints, and the saffron flag. The Congress should publicly apologise to all Sanatani people,' he wrote. Meanwhile, Shyam Bhavarlal Sahu, an Indore-based businessman who was discharged from the case in December 2017, said that all the accused had been 'framed in a fabricated case'. 'I was framed under 25-30 charges in the case but we have received justice now. The Congress' conspiracy has been exposed. The party should apologise for its conspiracy, though I don't think it will,' Mr. Sahu said, speaking to news agency PTI. 'While I was in jail after my arrest, my elder brother Mohan Sahu used to come and support me during court appearances. During an appearance, he suffered a heart attack in front of my eyes and died about half-an-hour later. I could not do anything to save him,' said Mr. Sahu, who was arrested in October 2008.

Bihar SIR: Day ahead of publication of draft roll, CEC assures voters on claims of inclusion and exclusion

A day ahead of the publication of draft electoral rolls in Bihar following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar assured voters in the State that all electors and political parties would be invited to give claims and objections from August 1 to September 1. 'The draft electoral rolls of Bihar are being published on Friday, August 1, at the CEC said in a message to voters. 'Physical as well as digital copies will also be given to all recognised political parties in Bihar in all 38 Districts by all the 38 District Election Officers (DEOs) of Bihar.' The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar and 243 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will also be inviting electors or any recognised political parties in Bihar to come forward and give claims and objections from August 1 to September 1 for adding and removing names and correction of entries in the draft electoral rolls, the CEC added. The final electoral roll after the SIR exercise, which began on June 24, would be published on September 30. Also Read | Bihar SIR: Trinamool Congress MP Saket Gokhale slams electoral roll revision; claims 1.26 crore voters 'deleted' On July 27, the EC had in a detailed press note said that 91.69% of electors registered in the 2025 voter list in Bihar had submitted enumeration forms and would figure in the draft list to be published on August 1. Of the 7.89 crore electors as on June 24, 2025, over 7.24 crore electors had submitted enumeration forms, indicating overwhelming participation, the poll body said in a statement. This, in effect, means that the names of 65 lakh voters would not make it to the August 1 draft roll. The EC said the reasons for names not being found in the rolls include death, permanent relocation and being enrolled at multiple places. The poll body said young electors, who have attained 18 years of age on July 1, 2025, or would be attaining 18 years on or before October 1, 2025, are being encouraged to file their application in Form 6, along with the prescribed Declaration Form. The commission said it would conduct special campaigns across Bihar from August 1 to September 1 to enrol such young electors, so that all eligible electors can be enrolled, and no one is left out. The SIR order on June 24 had said that the exercise would be carried out across the country beginning with Bihar. The contentious exercise has also been challenged in the Supreme Court. Opposition parties have branded it as National Register of Citizens (NRC) 'through backdoor'.

‘One spoke for India, another…': BJP highlights difference in Shashi Tharoor, Rahul Gandhi remarks after Trump tariffs

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a jibe at Congress, highlighting the difference between the remarks made by senior party leaders Shashi Tharoor and Rahul Gandhi after Donald Trump imposed 25 per cent tariffs on Indian products. In a post on X, BJP's Annamalai said while one spoke for India's interests, 'another spoke to please his offshore masters'. 'I came across remarks by two Congress leaders on the same topic today. One spoke for India's Interest, and the other spoke in a tone that would please his offshore masters. When the world acknowledges India as the only bright spot on an otherwise dark horizon, here is the leader of the opposition who feels otherwise,' Annamalai said. He said, 'LoP Thiru Rahul Gandhi continues to wear ignorance like a badge of honour. He is blind to India's rise, yet ever eager to echo foreign voices that undermine it.' Amit Malviya also slammed Rahul Gandhi for his remarks and said, 'Rahul Gandhi has hit a new low by echoing 'dead economy' jibe — a shameful insult to the aspirations, achievements, and well-being of the Indian people. But let's be honest — the only thing truly 'dead' here is Rahul Gandhi's own political credibility and legacy.' After the US imposed 25 per cent tariff and Donald Trump took a 'dead economy' jibe at India for its business ties with Russia, Rahul Gandhi said everyone knows 'Indian economy is dead economy'. He said, "On the US President Trump's dead economy remark, Lok Sabha LoP and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi says, 'Yes, he is right, Everybody knows this except the Prime Minsiter and the Finance Minsiter. Everybody knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy. I am glad that President Trump has stated a fact... The entire world knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy. BJP has finished the economy to help Adani.' When Shashi Tharoor was asked about trade negotiations between the US and India, the Thiruvananthapuram MP said if America is unreasonable, 'we have to move elsewhere.' 'It is a challenging negotiation. We are negotiating with many countries. The US is not the only negotiation. We have ongoing negotiations with the EU, we already concluded a deal with the UK, and we are talking with other countries also. If we can't compete in America, we may have to diversify our markets outside of America. We are not out of options. If America is completely unreasonable with its demands, we have to move elsewhere. That is the strength of India; we are not a totally export-dependent economy like China. We have a good and strong domestic market. We must give strong support to our negotiators to find the best deal possible. If a good deal is not possible, we may have to walk away.'
