New Delhi: Extending his support to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's allegations against the Election Commission in Karnataka, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar on Saturday said that bogus votes were found in several urban booths across the state and the matter would be brought to the notice of the public and the poll body.
His statement came after Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of indulging in 'cheating' during the voter list revision process in a Karnataka constituency.
On July 24, Gandhi claimed to have '100 per cent' proof of the alleged manipulation, which involves adding and deleting voters, but hasn't presented any evidence yet.
He alleged that thousands of new voters aged 50, 60, and 65 have been added to the list in a single constituency and eligible voters above 18 have been removed from the list.
'Today we have 100 per cent proof of Election Commission allowing cheating in a seat in Karnataka. When we decide to show it to you, it is 100 per cent proof. We just looked at one constituency and we found this. I am absolutely convinced that constituency after constituency this is the drama. Thousands of new votes, aged 50 or 60, 65 (are there) in one constituency. Then voter deletion, people who are way above 18,' he said.
The opposition parties, including Congress and Samajwadi Party, have been protesting against the SIR exercise, alleging that it's an attempt to disenfranchise voters, particularly from marginalised communities. They claim that the process is being used to remove names from the voters' list, which could impact the outcome of upcoming assembly elections.

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday (July 31, 2025) demanded apologies from the Congress for 'crafting narratives like Hindu terrorism' after a court acquitted all seven accused, including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur, in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. Bihar SIR: Day ahead of publication of draft roll, CEC assures voters on claims of inclusion and exclusion
A day ahead of the publication of draft electoral rolls in Bihar following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar assured voters in the State that all electors and political parties would be invited to give claims and objections from August 1 to September 1. 'The draft electoral rolls of Bihar are being published on Friday, August 1, at the CEC said in a message to voters. 'Physical as well as digital copies will also be given to all recognised political parties in Bihar in all 38 Districts by all the 38 District Election Officers (DEOs) of Bihar.' The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar and 243 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will also be inviting electors or any recognised political parties in Bihar to come forward and give claims and objections from August 1 to September 1 for adding and removing names and correction of entries in the draft electoral rolls, the CEC added. The final electoral roll after the SIR exercise, which began on June 24, would be published on September 30. Of the 7.89 crore electors as on June 24, 2025, over 7.24 crore electors had submitted enumeration forms, indicating overwhelming participation, the poll body said in a statement. This, in effect, means that the names of 65 lakh voters would not make it to the August 1 draft roll. The EC said the reasons for names not being found in the rolls include death, permanent relocation and being enrolled at multiple places. The poll body said young electors, who have attained 18 years of age on July 1, 2025, or would be attaining 18 years on or before October 1, 2025, are being encouraged to file their application in Form 6, along with the prescribed Declaration Form. The commission said it would conduct special campaigns across Bihar from August 1 to September 1 to enrol such young electors, so that all eligible electors can be enrolled, and no one is left out. The SIR order on June 24 had said that the exercise would be carried out across the country beginning with Bihar. The contentious exercise has also been challenged in the Supreme Court. Opposition parties have branded it as National Register of Citizens (NRC) 'through backdoor'.
