"Biggest blow to naxals": Chhattisgarh CM hails anti-naxal operation that killed top naxal leader Basava Raju

India Gazette23-05-2025

Narayanpur (Chhattisgarh) [India], May 23 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday hailed the killing of naxal leader Basava Raju and the successful elimination of 27 Naxals during an encounter in the forest area of Abujhmad in Narayanpur on 21st May and called the operation as the state's most significant success in fighting Naxalism.
Speaking to ANI, CM Sai said, 'Our jawans are continuously fighting naxalism and being successful in their operations. This operation that took place in the Abujmarh area of Narayanpur has been the biggest one so far. Our jawans have been extremely successful. Our jawans neutralised the General Secretary of Maoists, Basava Raju, and it is a big blow to the Naxals.'
The operation, led by security forces including the District Reserve Guard (DRG), resulted in the killing of naxal leader Basava Raju and the successful elimination of 27 Naxals during an encounter on Wednesday.
The Chief Minister interacted with the jawans who participated in the mission and flagged off new motorcycles provided to DRG personnel to aid in future anti-Naxal campaigns in the region.
'Naxalism has broken its back, and now the resolve of the Honourable Prime Minister and the Honourable Home Minister is to eliminate Naxalism from the entire country by the 30th of March 2026. That path is getting closer,' he said.
One of the jawans told ANI that the terrain in the Abujhmad region was extremely challenging, with steep hills, dense forests, and rivers making movement difficult. Despite these obstacles, the forces achieved what he called a landmark victory.
'Some women were playing a great role in DRG. They stood shoulder-to-shoulder with male jawans in rain and sunshine. I mean, they are more hardworking than we are,' Jawans told ANI.
'There was a wave of happiness among the jawans. They were able to feel what they had achieved. They didn't need any more motivation. They were already fully driven,' Jawans stated.
Earlier in the day, CM Sai also paid tribute to CoBRA battalion's Mehul Solanki, who lost his life during the encounter on 21st May in Narayanpur.
He laid a wreath and offered condolences to Solanki's family, acknowledging their ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
CM Sai and Deputy Vijay Sharma, who is also the state's Home Minister, lend their shoulder to the mortal remains of CoBRA battalion personnel.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that this is the first time in three decades of India's battle against Naxalism that the security forces have neutralised a General Secretary-ranked leader.
Noting that Basavaraju was the backbone of the Naxal movement, Home Minister Shah said that 54 Naxalites have been arrested and that 84 Naxalites have surrendered in Chhattisgarh after the completion of Operation Black Forest.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised the efforts of India's security forces after 27 Maoists, including top CPI-Maoist leader Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju, were killed in a major operation in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district.
In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi said, 'Proud of our forces for this remarkable success. Our Government is committed to eliminating the menace of Maoism and ensuring a life of peace and progress for our people.' (ANI)

"US constantly bullying India in name of trade, Modi government is silent": Congress' Supriya Shrinate

New Delhi [India], June 10 (ANI): Congress leader Supriya Shrinate on Tuesday said the Donald Trump administration is constantly 'bullying' India in the name of trade, adding that the Modi government is silent against the threats being made by the United States. Speaking to ANI, Shrinate also pointed out that Indian students are facing issues with the admission procedure in the US, highlighting that a huge visa backlog has been created. 'Our students' visas are not being processed, a backlog is being created. The reality is that the admissions of our students are being cancelled. Another reality is that 682 Indians were deported to India, handcuffed, in military planes by America. The reality is that Donald Trump has taken credit for the ceasefire 12 times. Again and again, he says that he threatened India in the name of trade. I feel that the United States is constantly bullying and insulting us, and the Modi government is silent,' Shrinate told ANI. Earlier on May 31, US President Donald Trump claimed credit for brokering the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan, asserting that he used trade as a negotiation tactic. Speaking at the Oval Office during an event marking Elon Musk's departure from his advisory role at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Trump said, 'We stopped India and Pakistan from fighting. I believe that could have turned out into a nuclear disaster, and I want to thank the leaders of India and Pakistan, and I want to thank my people. Also, we talk trade, and we say we can't trade with people who are shooting at each other and potentially using nuclear weapons. They're great leaders in those countries, and they understood and they agreed.' Meanwhile, India has clarified that the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan took place on May 10 following contacts between the two DGMOs and while there were conversations between Indian and US leaders on the evolving situation since Operation Sindoor was launched, the issue of trade or tariff did not come up in any of those discussions. (ANI) On video of an Indian student handcuffed and pinned to the floor at an airport in the United States that went viral on social media., Shrinate said, 'He is a young student who went to America with the hope of building his future. But the way he was treated -- the way he was slammed and thrashed, the way he was handcuffed, the way he was trampled under boots, the way he was deported -- why is he being treated like an animal? This is happening to our students continuously.' In this regard, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday criticised the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government and accused it of 'failing' to protect and safeguard the dignity of India and Indians abroad. PM Modi's 11-year tenure is 'Amritkal': Tripura CM Manik Saha

Agartala (Tripura) [India], June 10 (ANI): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha today described Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 11-year tenure as 'Amritkal', attributing the period to significant strides in development, trust, and transformational change across India. 'Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the state government is also prioritising development and innovation. During Prime Minister Modi's tenure, around 25 crore people in the country have risen above the poverty line,' Saha said. He was addressing a press conference at the Bharatiya Janata Party's state office in Krishnanagar, Agartala, held to mark the completion of 11 years of the BJP-led NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Highlighting the Prime Minister's political journey, Dr. Saha said, 'Before assuming leadership of the country, Narendra Modi served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for more than 13 years and transformed it into a model state. After becoming Prime Minister in 2014, he took decisive steps for national development. Over these 11 years, the nation has steadily progressed. Today, people across India and the world recognise--'Modi ji hai to sab mumkin hai'. We have never seen a Prime Minister like him.' The Chief Minister further said that PM Modi's governance focuses on Seva Sushasan and Garib Kalyan. 'From the economically weaker sections to the most marginalised individuals, he has worked to address basic problems and uplift socio-economic conditions. The government's dedication to building a developed India under his leadership is truly commendable,' he added. Saha also spoke about the recent North East Investors Summit held in Delhi, attended by Prime Minister Modi. 'PM Modi clearly stated that India cannot be fully developed until the North East is developed. In the past, fear of terrorism kept people away from this region. But now, the Prime Minister has renamed the North East and Sikkim as Ashtalakshmi, giving special attention to this region's development. Under his leadership, around 11 to 12 agreements have been signed to restore peace and stability in the region,' he said. The Chief Minister also referred to the Prime Minister's monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, which is aired on the last Sunday of every month to connect directly with the public. 'Through Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister brings important national issues to the forefront. Before 2014, there were serious concerns about the country's future--corruption, scams, and nepotism were widespread, and Tripura was no exception. But now, we have moved past those issues,' Saha concluded. The press conference was attended by the BJP state president and MP Rajya Sabha Rajib Bhattacharjee, general secretary Bipin Debbarma, and Chief spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty. (ANI)
