Deal: Narwal Fro Pro robot cleaner plummets to $400, a new record-low price

Here at Android Authority, we are big fans of Narwal cleaning robots. In fact, our top pick in our list of the best robot vacuums is a Narwal high-end model. Not everyone wants to spend well over a grand on a cleaning robot, though. The Narwal Freo Pro is a fantastic option if you want something more affordable. It competes against much more expensive alternatives, and is currently at a record-low price of just $399.99.

There are not many compromises in the Narwal Freo Pro to help bring the price down. Only a few controls in the base station, manual detergent addition, but still some of the best floor cleaning capabilities we've seen from a robot vacuum.

I already own the Narwal Freo X Ultra, but if I were to buy a new robot vacuum and mop using my hard-earned money, the Narwal Freo Pro is the one I would get. I mean, it's a great robot even at its full $699.99, as it competes with much more expensive models. Paying just $399.99 for such a capable robot is an amazing deal, and it happens to be a new record-low price for this unit.
The Narwal Freo Pro is no lackluster. As mentioned above, it competes with much more expensive robots. In fact, it is very similar to the Narwal Freo X Ultra, which is a previous-generation flagship model. This means it's a very capable robot cleaner.
The vacuum has a suction power of 8,500Pa, which is actually a bit stronger than the Freo X Ultra's 8,200Pa. The latter can pick up metal marbles, so regular dust and debris will have nothing on either of them. The actual difference between the two isn't actually noticeable, though.

Narwal's mopping function is also among the best in the industry. These dual pads essentially scrub the floor using a rotating motion. The system can also recognize how dirty the mopping pads are when they return to the dock, and it will continue sending the robot to clean until they are squeaky clean.
The lidar system works great, and it had no issues navigating through a house or avoiding objects during our tests. I happen to love the zero-tangle brush on the Narwal Freo X Ultra. It's a dream for anyone with long hair or people with pets. The Narwal Freo Pro has it, too, but it does a little better with hair thanks to the anti-tangling front brushes.
How can Narwal make such a good robot and offer it at a lower price? Well, there are some small sacrifices. The Narwal Freo Pro base has no physical buttons, so you'll need to control it through the app, exclusively. That said, I rarely ever touch those buttons! I wouldn't see this as a problem.

Additionally, it does not automatically dispense detergent. Instead, you'll need to drop a dissolving tablet into the freshwater tank every time you refill it. I refill mine about once a week, and while it may be a minor annoyance to remember dropping the tablet in there, I wouldn't exactly call it a deal-breaker.
As you can see, the downsides are not a big deal, and it even has some improvements. The robot's dust bag can still hold about seven weeks of debris, which we thought it was a conservative estimation. We've been able to make it last more than double.
This is one heck of a deal, so make sure to sign up for yours while you can. Record-low prices don't tend to last long.
Extra deal: The Narwal Freo X Ultra is $429.99!

Our floors have never looked cleaner
Powerful suction, anti-clog dirt channels and brushes, LiDAR and laser sensors, and a convenient self-cleaning base station make the Narwal Freo X Ultra one of the best robot vacuums we've seen for home users. Safe and efficient operation for wood, tile, carpet, and nearly every floor surface in between.

Now, if you prefer automatic detergent dispensing and would like to have base physical buttons, the Narwal Freo X Ultra is still available, and it is currently discounted to $429.99. While older, it is still an amazing robot.

Former OpenAI Board Member Questions Zuckerberg AI Hiring Spree

(Bloomberg) -- Meta Platforms Inc.'s lavish multimillion-dollar budget for recruiting top AI talent may not guarantee success, said Helen Toner, former OpenAI board member and director of strategy at Georgetown's Center for Security and Emerging Technology. NYC Commutes Resume After Midtown Bus Terminal Crash Chaos Struggling Downtowns Are Looking to Lure New Crowds Massachusetts to Follow NYC in Making Landlords Pay Broker Fees What Gothenburg Got Out of Congestion Pricing California Exempts Building Projects From Environmental Law The poaching of artificial intelligence researchers from the likes of OpenAI — with salaries in the tens of millions of dollars — and the debut of Meta's new Superintelligence group comes after the Facebook operator developed a reputation for 'having a dysfunctional team,' Toner said in an interview with Bloomberg TV. The practice of luring away high performers from each other's AI labs has intensified among Silicon Valley companies since the launch of ChatGPT, she said. 'The question is, can it turn around Meta's fortunes and turn it into a real juggernaut?' Toner said. 'It'll be difficult, there's a lot of organizational politics at play.' Meta's troubles began compounding when China's AI upstart DeepSeek came out of nowhere this year and put forward credible competition to Meta's open source models. 'The fact that DeepSeek was outshining them was really not a good look for the company,' according to Toner. Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg is now plowing financial resources in, but whether he'll be able to change organizational dynamics and make progress fast enough to retain top engineers is an open question. 'Can Meta convince them that they are moving fast enough?' Toner said. Toner, an influential voice in artificial intelligence, came into the limelight first as a board member of OpenAI and then for her vote to oust Sam Altman from the CEO post in late 2023. The Melbourne-educated academic departed from the board following Altman's brief stepping down and restoration to the top job, and has since advanced her career in studying the AI race between the US and China. That race is now spilling across borders as the two superpowers vie for the business and collaboration of other countries, Toner said. US companies like OpenAI and Chinese players like Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., DeepSeek and Zhipu AI are making plays for international partnerships with governments and businesses. South Korea's Kakao Corp. is integrating ChatGPT and other AI services into the country's most used social media platform, while Alibaba is adding new data centers in Southeast Asia. China has a long history of working with other governments and is chipping away at the US tech monopoly globally, Toner said. 'It's certainly a strong showing they're making,' she said. China's models are widely available even if they are less technically sophisticated. They compete on the basis that they're 'cheaper, easier to use, and they help you adopt and customize.' Toner hasn't interacted with Altman since their clash in the November 2023 OpenAI boardroom battle. 'At some point, we'll wind up at the same event, the AI world is pretty small,' she said. 'I'm sure we'll both be happy to shake each other's hand.' AI job predictions become corporate America's newest competitive sport

In late May, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei appeared to kick open the door on a sensitive topic, warning that half of entry-level jobs could vanish within five years because of AI and push U.S. unemployment up to 20%. But Amodei is far from alone in sharing aloud that he foresees a workforce bloodbath. A new WSJ story highlights how other CEOs are also issuing dire predictions about AI's job impact, turning employment doom into something of a competitive sport. Several of these predictions came before Amodei's comments. For example, at JPMorgan's annual investor day earlier in May, its consumer banking chief Marianne Lake projected AI would 'enable' a 10% workforce reduction. But they've been coming fast, and growing more stark, ever since. In a note last month, Amazon's Andy Jassy warned employees to expect a smaller workforce due to the 'once-in-a-lifetime' technological shift that's afoot. ThredUp's CEO said at a conference last month that AI will destroy 'way more jobs than the average person thinks.' Not to be outdone, Ford's Jim Farley delivered perhaps the most sweeping claim yet, saying last week that AI will 'literally replace half of all white-collar workers in the U.S.' It's a dramatic shift from executives' previous cautious public statements about job displacement, notes the Journal. Indeed, the outlet notes that while some tech leaders — including from powerful AI companies — have proposed that fears are overblown, the growing string of warnings suggests massive restructurings are coming, whether people are ready for them or not.
