Max Homa fails to qualify for US Open after carrying his own bag for 36 holes
Max Homa misses out on US Open after failing to qualifying while lugging clubs around
'Golf's Longest Day' is even longer when you're slugging your own clubs for two rounds.
Enter Max Homa, who carried his own bag for 36 holes Monday at Kinsale Golf and Fitness Club in Powell, Ohio, as he attempted to qualify for the U.S. Open during one of the numerous qualifying events taking place across the country.

Homa, looking to make his sixth straight U.S. Open, might have run out of gas as his three-putt on the 36th hole threw him into a five-man playoff with Rickie Fowler, Eric Cole, Chase Johnson and Cameron Young, who earned the right to compete at the third major of the year with a birdie on the 38th hole.
'It's going to probably be heartbreaking, but it's all right,' Homa said. 'I haven't carried my bag 36 holes in a while, so I'm a little tired.'
After a grueling 38 holes, including the playoffs, and temperatures approaching the 90-degree mark, Homa added that he'd prefer not to talk about the caddie situation in a curious move.

'I'd much rather talk about the golf instead of all the questions about the caddie,' Homa said. 'I'm good. Just hoofed it 36.'
Homa and his longtime caddie, Joe Grenier, split two months ago, and he was replaced with Bill Harke, a match that apparently did not last long.

It's been a rough stretch for Homa, a six-time PGA Tour winner who was the No. 10 golfer in the world as recently as last year.
Homa tied for 51st at last weekend's Memorial Tournament and tied for 60th at the PGA Championship in May.

'It seems to be better than when someone is standing next to me for some reason,' he said Monday. 'I might need to walk by myself more. Maybe I just looked at it as a nice, peaceful walk. Probably got to battle some demons and have no one to lean on. Maybe that helps a little bit. There's no one … everything is me. The battle helped that a little bit.'

Homa will play in the RBC Canadian Open, which begins Thursday at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley.
The U.S. Open tees off next week at Oakmont Country Club.

NBA Finals: Game 1 of Thunder-Pacers set to happen in Oklahoma City
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Winning Game 1 of the NBA Finals does not guarantee anything. The 79th title series in league history — it has been called different names over the years — starts Thursday night, when the Oklahoma City Thunder play host to the Indiana Pacers. And the winner of Game 1 will obviously leave the floor feeling good about themselves. But in the past 78 years, only 55 Game 1 winners have gone on to eventually win the title — or just about 71%. If the winner is the Thunder, it's a really good sign. Teams that win Game 1 at home have ultimately prevailed 78% of the time (47 out of 60). If the Pacers win, their odds of winning the title improve dramatically but they probably still wouldn't be called favorites. Teams that win Game 1 on the road only end up winning the series 44% of the time (8 out of 18). But it should be noted as well that the last time the Thunder were in the NBA Finals, they had the home-court advantage over the Miami Heat. Liverpool rejects Barcelona approach for Luis Diaz, AP source says
Liverpool has rejected an approach from Barcelona for forward Luis Diaz, a person with knowledge of the situation told the Associated Press on Thursday. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the information has not been made public. Spanish champion Barcelona is looking to strengthen, and sporting director Deco has publicly confirmed admiration for Diaz and Manchester United's Marcus Rashford. It is not known how much Barcelona was prepared to pay for Colombia international Diaz, but Liverpool informed the Catalan club he was not for sale, the person said. The 28-year-old Diaz scored 17 goals in Liverpool's Premier League title-winning campaign last season. He scored a hat trick against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League and was a key figure in attack for manager Arne Slot. Last month, Deco spoke to Catalan radio RAC1 and was specifically asked about Diaz and Rashford. 'We like Luis, we like Rashford, we like a series of players we have on a list that we have been working on for years,' he said. Liverpool is also looking to make additions during the offseason, with Germany midfielder Florian Wirtz a reported target. But the Merseyside club sees Diaz as an important part of its plans to retain the Premier League title next year and make a push in the Champions League.
