'First one to see' and Yellow Car among Brits' favourite car games
A poll of 2,000 adults found 88% will indulge in a time-killing challenge when on a road trip. Spotting car brands and various license plates also proved popular
A survey of 2,000 adults showed that a whopping 88% engage in playful challenges to pass the time during long drives. The quest to identify different car makes and spot unique number plates also ranks high on the list of road trip entertainments.
Other top 20 contenders include the Alphabet Game, where players come up with words from specific categories for each letter, and the timeless Rock Paper Scissors. Games like Name That Tune, Would You Rather, and even Truth or Dare are crowd-pleasers too.
This news comes as Londoners playing 'Yellow Car' would have scored big, thanks to snapshots showing five new Renault 5 E-Tech Electric vehicles zipping by iconic landmarks in their standout yellow pop colourway.
The coordinated quintet of cars was seen cruising by The Mall and Big Ben, adding a splash of colour to the cityscape.
Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson from the car manufacturer behind the research said: "The nation will be taking to the roads this Bank Holiday weekend and I'm sure many will be playing at least one of these classic car games.
"While I-Spy might still be the most popular, Yellow Car is one that many will be familiar with. Trying to spot a brightly coloured car while on the road can keep adults and children alike entertained and can help make any car journey go that little bit quicker.
"So, having launched Renault 5 with the option of vibrant, fun colours, we wanted to play a real-life version of the Yellow Car game on the streets of London, so anyone driving past would have had a bumper load of cars to shout about."
The study also highlighted that a whopping 67% of people engage in car games just to pass the time and keep boredom at bay, whilst 43% use them to create a cheerful atmosphere.
Moreover, 16% turn to such games as a way to cut down on excessive screen time or aimless scrolling through their mobiles.
It was also uncovered that for 63% of grown-ups, car games are a throwback to the joyous road trips of their younger days.
Car journeys within the UK emerged as prime time for game-playing for 53%, with day trips (41%) and visiting kith and kin (32%) following suit.
A sizable 21% of adults also indulge in these amusements when motoring with mates, and the thrilling ride to the airport isn't without its share of games for 17%.
Meanwhile, almost one in ten parents leaned on such entertainment strategies to make the school commute less dull for their children.
