When Bihar Congress set up a tea stall — minus sugar
The Youth Congress in Motihari also came up with a unique way to make their point. They set up a stall at Gandhi Chowk where they served tea without sugar.
Bettiah Youth Congress president Shiv Pujari, who was making tea, said, 'In 2014, the Prime Minister had promised from Champaran's land that he would revive the sugar mills, and the next time, he would have tea made with Motihari's sugar. This is his fifth rally here since then, yet there's no word on the mills. Today, we welcome him with feeki chai (sugarless tea).'
At different locations in Motihari, Youth Congress members had also put up posters that read, 'Ka Modi ji? Abki baar Motihari aur Chanpatia ke cheeni mill ke cheeni ke chai peeke jayem nu (So, Modi ji? This time, will you have tea made with sugar from the Motihari-Chanpatia sugar mill before you leave)?'
Congress spokesperson Gyan Ranjan Gupta, meanwhile, said, 'He (Modi) promised Kashi would become Kyoto. Where is that? In Bihar, there are on average 229 murders every month. Paper leaks are routine. The PM, who couldn't restart a single sugar mill, now talks of making Motihari like Mumbai. The biggest promise is always a jumla (empty slogan).'
Former deputy chief minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav took to his X account and wrote, 'Pradhanmantri ji, vaadanusar Bihar mein ek cheeni mill tak nahin khulwa sakein, baaki udhyogon ki to apeksha hi bekaar hai. Sab kuch to Pradhanmantri ji Gujarat le gaye, Bihar ko to sirf jumle dene aate hain. (Prime Minister, as per your promise, you have not been able to reopen even a single sugar mill in Bihar. There is no point expecting anything when it comes to other industries. The Prime Minister has shifted everything to Gujarat and only comes to Bihar with empty slogans).'
In his address, the Prime Minister accused the previous RJD-Congress governments of 'revenge politics' and neglect. He also listed new investments and infrastructure initiatives, adding, 'So much work is happening in Bihar today because both Centre and state governments are working for the state's progress.'
Assembly elections are set to be held in Bihar later this year. During his visit on Friday, Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth around Rs 7,200 crore, encompassing new road and rail projects, software technology parks, and investments in rural development and housing support. The event also saw the flagging off of four Amrit Bharat trains and the announcement of Rs 400 crore for women's self-help groups across Bihar.

Trump removes official overseeing jobs data after dismal US employment report for July
WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Friday removed the head of the agency that produces the monthly jobs figures after a report showed hiring slowed in July and was much weaker in May and June than previously reported. Trump, in a post on his social media platform, alleged that the figures were manipulated for political reasons and said that Erika McEntarfer, the director of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, who was appointed by former President Joe Biden, should be fired. He provided no evidence for the charge. 'I have directed my Team to fire this Biden Political Appointee, IMMEDIATELY,' Trump said on Truth Social. 'She will be replaced with someone much more competent and qualified.' Trump later posted: 'In my opinion, today's Jobs Numbers were RIGGED in order to make the Republicans, and ME, look bad.' The charge that the data was faked is an explosive one that threatens to undercut the political legitimacy of the US government's economic data, which has long been seen as the 'gold standard' of economic measurement globally. Economists and Wall Street investors have for decades generally accepted the data as free from political bias. Trump's move to fire McEntarfer represented another extraordinary assertion of presidential power. He has wielded the authority of the White House to try to control the world's international trade system, media companies, America's top universities and Congress' constitutional power of the purse, among other institutions.

JDS leader slams Congress over khata fee hike
BENGALURU: Former JDS MLC H M Ramesh Gowda has criticised the ruling Congress government for imposing exorbitant charges—ranging from Rs 2 to Rs 3 lakh—for converting B Khata to A Khata within the Greater Bengaluru Authority limits. Gowda also termed the process as 'big bogus'. If the matter goes to court, the government will be reprimanded, he added. Addressing a press conference on Friday, he said that earlier, BBMP was levying a tax of Rs 13,800 per square meter. This tax rate has been increased by an average of 1,000% by the state government, and this will lead to an increase from Rs 3-6 lakh rupees. The state government charged Rs 250 per square meter in 2007, and under the present government led by Siddaramaiah, the rate has been increased to over Rs 2,000 per square foot, he alleged. On 25-07-2025, the state government issued an order and created confusion by announcing the issue of 'A' Khata to 'B' Khata holders. The purpose of this government is to make money, and it does not care about the people. Expressing solidarity with Gowda, senior party leader K A Thippeswamy said that a 'tax raj' is being created in the city in the name of Greater Bangalore. 'The state Congress government is looting the people of the city in the name of tax. Our party will wage all kinds of struggles against this loot,' he said.

If Omar wants only statehood then we are on the same page: Sunil Sharma
As the debate on restoration of statehood heats up with Congress hitting roads across J&K, BJP's leader of Opposition in the assembly Sunil Sharma said if chief minister Omar Abdullah wants only statehood then they are on the same page. Now it seems the BJP too has softened its stand on the statehood restoration though some of party leaders are saying statehood shouldn't be granted unless it gets clearance from the ministry of home affairs and security agencies. (ANI File) The NC, Congress and other political parties have now increased their pitch for statehood with Congress J&K president Tariq Karra asking other political parties of state to join his party for statehood restoration protests. Congress recently held a protest for statehood at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi and its leaders said the protests will continue until statehood is granted which Congress leaders described as the right of people of J&K. Now it seems the BJP too has softened its stand on the statehood restoration though some of party leaders are saying statehood shouldn't be granted unless it gets clearance from the ministry of home affairs and security agencies. 'If the NC is seeking statehood without Article 370 and without Martyrs Day, just like a normal state then we are on the same page,' Sunil Sharma told a local news agency and said that Article 370 is now 'buried forever.' The latest statement from the senior BJP looks a departure from the past when all BJP leaders advocated that statehood shouldn't be restored till the situation gets normal. On Thursday, Karra said other political parties should join Congress to fight for statehood. 'Congress will organise a series of protests for statehood from August 1. Even August 5 will be observed as black day and there will be a hunger strike on August 9,' Karra said while urging leaders and workers of other political parties to be part of this fight for statehood.
