Federal govt unveils Kota Madani township in Putrajaya — a 10,000-home, high-density hub powered by AI
PUTRAJAYA, June 3 — The Federal government is set to launch a major urban development in Putrajaya with the construction of Kota Madani, a high-density smart township aligned with the national CHASE City vision.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the project, spanning 102 acres, will feature 10,000 residential units to accommodate more than 30,000 people.
The vertically developed township will integrate artificial intelligence, high-efficiency digital infrastructure, and green mobility systems — part of efforts to build a low-carbon, sustainable and secure city.
'This is a long-term strategic investment to shape Putrajaya as a model city upholding Madani values,' she said in a Facebook post today.
On January 1, Dr Zaliha announced her vision for CHASE City — an initiative aimed at transforming all three Federal Territories into cities that are clean, healthy, advanced, safe, and eco-friendly.
The groundbreaking ceremony for Kota Madani is scheduled for June 26, 2025.
Dr Zaliha also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his confidence and guidance in shaping Kota Madani's strategic direction as a catalyst for more progressive and people-focused urban development.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has filed a notice of appeal against the High Court's decision to dismiss his application to refer eight legal questions to the Federal Court, including whether a sitting Prime Minister enjoys immunity from civil lawsuits. Anwar's lawyer, Datuk Seri K. Rajasegaran, when contacted, confirmed the filing of the notice by Messrs Zain Megat & Murad. 'The notice of appeal was filed immediately after the proceedings ended yesterday. We hope to secure a hearing date before June 16,' he said. Yesterday, High Court judge Roz Mawar Rozain dismissed Anwar's bid to refer the eight legal questions after finding that none of the articles of a Federal Constitution (FC) cited by Anwar's legal team give rise to any real, substantial or justiciable question of constitutional law requiring determination by the Federal Court under Article 128(2) of the FC or Section 84 of Courts of Judicature Act 1964. On May 23, the Prime Minister filed the application to refer the eight legal questions, which also include whether, under Articles 39, 40 and 43 of the Federal Constitution, a sitting Prime Minister enjoys limited immunity from lawsuits concerning allegations of personal conduct that occurred before his appointment. The legal questions relate to a lawsuit filed by Anwar's former research assistant, Muhammed Yusoff Rawther, concerning an alleged sexual assault seven years ago. However, the Attorney General's Chambers on Jan 14, 2020, announced that it would not pursue the matter further, citing insufficient evidence and contradictions of material facts that could not support the prosecution of any person under Section 354 of the Penal Code. With new ETS on track, KTMB preps Johor, Butterworth, Padang Besar routes
BUTTERWORTH, June 5 — Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has received two out of 10 new Electric Train Service (ETS) sets, worth RM400 million, which are expected to be gradually deployed for operations starting next year. ETS and Intercity Services general manager Nurul Azha Mokmin said that both train sets are currently undergoing testing and commissioning. She said that the acquisition of the new train sets aims to enhance both the quality and capacity of the ETS service, which continues to see strong demand. 'ETS passenger numbers grow by about 10 per cent annually, indicating high user satisfaction. With the upcoming completion of the Gemas (Negeri Sembilan) to Johor Bahru (Johor) route, KTMB plans to expand ETS services to several new destinations. 'We have procured 10 ETS train sets, which are expected to operate on the Gemas-Johor Bahru route, beginning next year. Subsequently, new routes from Johor Bahru to Butterworth and Padang Besar (Perlis) will also be introduced,' she said. She said this to reporters after officiating the Ruby Lounge at Butterworth Station, an exclusive waiting area for ETS Business Class passengers, and attending the distribution of Aidiladha souvenir packs by KTMB chief technical officer Ahmad Nizam Mohamed Amin. She added that over 250,000 ETS and Intercity train tickets, including additional tickets released for the Aidiladha celebration, had been sold as of yesterday, since sales began on May 29. This year, the service offers two trips, with a total of 872 tickets available,' she said. One-way fares range from RM80 to RM95, with options including premier and superior class seating, superior class sleeping coaches, as well as 'chillax' and cafe coaches for added passenger comfort. Penang offers 5pc housing discount for Indian Muslims under new Madani campaign
GEORGE TOWN, June 5 — The Penang state government will offer a five per cent discount to Indian Muslims for the purchase of residential and commercial units under the newly introduced Madani Home Ownership Campaign (MOC), part of the Madani Inclusive Property Sector Catalyst Policy. State Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo said the discount would be available throughout the campaign period, from June 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026, to boost the sale of such properties. 'In addition, the Penang State Housing Board has introduced a special category, Rumah MutiaraKu Type D (RMKu D), with a ceiling price of RM400,000, targeted at households earning up to RM15,000 a month. 'This category is not allowed to be sold on the open market and cannot be used to fulfil affordable housing compliance requirements,' he said during a press conference at Komtar today, alongside State Local Government and Town and Country Planning Committee chairman H'ng Mooi Lye. Sundarajoo also announced a reduction in contribution rates for developers who do not physically build RMKu Type A or B units-from RM120,000 to RM100,000 in areas under the Penang Island City Council, and from RM120,000 to RM72,500 under the Seberang Perai City Council. To ensure cash flow and timely delivery of RMKu units, Sundarajoo said the previous 20 per cent open market release limit has been increased to 50 per cent. However, a release fee of 10 per cent of the selling price will be imposed. He added that upgrade packages for open market units will be capped at 50 per cent of the base price, and such packages will not be allowed for PN1 units, to maintain transparency in compliance with the RMKu policy. Other incentives under the policy include waivers on the sale or purchase charges of RMKu A and B quotas for developers who do not meet the price-controlled unit requirements, as well as exemptions from conducting a social impact assessment report. Sundarajoo said the policy, which was approved during the state planning committee meeting No. 5/2025 on June 3, is expected to have a positive impact by boosting home ownership rates, encouraging approval of strategic new projects and fostering a more inclusive, sustainable and competitive property development ecosystem. 'We are confident the implementation of the MOC policy will help raise home ownership levels among Penangites. The state government will continue to review, refine and gather feedback from industry players and the public to improve and update these guidelines,' he said. Previous initiatives introduced by the state include the Home Ownership Campaign (HOC) and the Penang State Property Sector Stimulus Policy 2020, which was extended four times, most recently as HOC 3.0 PLUS, which ended on Dec 31 last year. — Bernama
