Portrait of last Battle of Britain pilot handed over at National Museum
He died in March this year, at the age of 105.
His portrait will find a permanent home at the Irish National Gallery.

The portrait, unveiled by Mr Hemingway at the British Embassy in Dublin last year marking his 105th birthday, was painted by Welsh artist Dan Llywelyn Hall, 44.
He was the last living pilot from the Battle of Britain and would have been 106 on July 17.
Mr Llywelyn Hall is known for numerous portraits, such as the Queen, Shane MacGowan, Amy Winehouse and other public figures.
Mr Llywelyn Hall said: 'I am pleased for the portrait of the Last of the Few, John Hemingway, to be a legacy for the public in John's native Ireland.
'It's especially meaningful this portrait will live in Dublin as it was John's home and held in great affection.
'This portrait serves as both a record of remarkable life and a testament to the rich personality beyond the uniform.'
Brenda Malone, curator of Irish Military History, said: 'We are delighted to accept this generous gift from Dan, and are particularly happy to record John Hemingway's story, through his portrait, with us.
'The National Museum collects and preserves the history of Irishmen and women's experience of military service around the world, especially in times of conflict.
'John's story stands as a representation for the many Irish people who served in the Royal Air Force during WWII.
'His portrait and history will form a valuable part of our collections which we hold in trust for the Irish people.'

Sport stars pay tribute to late Doddie Weir in birthday video
Rugby stars Kenny Logan and Rob Wainwright and other sporting legends have paid tribute to the late Doddie Weir in a video released on what would have been his 55th birthday. The video has been created to honour the memory of Weir, and the legacy of the foundation he set up to find effective treatments for motor neurone disease (MND) after he was diagnosed with it in 2016. Weir founded the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation in 2017, and died in November 2022 aged 52. Those in the video include Olympic swimming medallist Duncan Scott, Olympic curling medallist Eve Muirhead, broadcaster and ex-footballer Ally McCoist, former England rugby player Mike Tindall and British and Irish Lions fly-half Fin Smith. Supporters from across the UK will wear Doddie tartan to work on Friday July 4, as part of a tradition marking what would have been the former rugby player's birthday. Kenny Logan, who played alongside Doddie as part of the 1999 Five Nations-winning Scotland side, said: 'Doddie was a leader in life, and he remains a leader in death. 'His memory inspires thousands of people, both inside and outside of the MND community, to take action and help bring an end to this devastating disease. 'We all know Doddie should still be here with us. He brought light and laughter into every room, even in the darkest days. It's up to all of us to dig deep, keep fundraising and finish what he started. 'We do it because we miss him. We do it because we love him. And we do it because nobody else should have to go through what he and his family did.' The My Name'5 Doddie Foundation has now committed almost £20 million to targeted research projects and launched a Catalysing A Cure strategy to speed up the search for effective treatments. Earlier this year it pledged £4 million to the MND Discovery Network, a new UK-wide initiative connecting leading scientists to accelerate progress. The film also features Jennie Starkey, who is living with MND and is part of the Foundation's Discovery Network board. The video comes after the end of the Doddie's Lions Challenge, in which a team led by Logan and including Ally McCoist, Gabby Logan, and Doddie's widow Kathy, cycled 555 miles around the island of Ireland in five days to deliver the match ball for the British and Irish Lions vs Argentina fixture in Dublin. The ride has so far raised almost £650,000 for MND research. My Name'5 Doddie Foundation chief executive Nicola Roseman, said: 'Doddie's spirit continues to galvanise the MND community. 'The outpouring of support and emotion on what would have been his 55th birthday shows just how many lives he touched and how much his story still matters. It also reminds us that there is still work to be done. 'Every birthday that passes without Doddie is another reminder of the urgency of our mission.'

Oasis' plans for Cardiff just hours before doors open at Principality Stadium
Noel and Liam Gallagher are set to reunite with Oasis for the first time in over a decade in Cardiff and fans can expect a bumper two hour setlist to sing along to The wait is almost over – Oasis is back and Cardiff is ready for it. The reunion tour that seemed half the world away last year is about to kick off, and over 74,000 people will pile into the Welsh city's Principality Stadium on Friday night. Such is the anticipation ahead of Noel and Liam Gallagher's arrival back on the main stage together that fans have already started to camp out. It marks the first of 17 nights across the UK, with fans set to flock to London, Manchester and Edinburgh too. There will also be a set in Dublin before the band takes the show on the road to North America, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Chile and Argentina. But the here and now sees Wales ready for action. And there are big plans already in place. Here is what we know so far... Arriving and exiting Cardiff Preparations have gotten underway in Cardiff ahead of tomorrow's first show. With over 74,000 fans expected to descend on the Welsh capital, officials have started preparing. With many expected to arrive by train, the stunning area outside the station has been fitted with metal railings, ensuring that there is no shoving and fighting to get into the station first. With doors for the stadium opening at 5pm, fans can treat themselves to some brilliant warm-up acts. The first support act Cast warm up the crowd at 6pm, shortly followed by Verve frontman and friend of the Gallaghers, Richard Ashcroft will then take to the stage at 7pm. Then, as the anticipation reaches fever pitch the time Oasis reunite live has now been confirmed as 8.15pm. They are set to play for just over two hours before they will end the set for a 22.30pm curfew. It's thought there will be 24 songs for the crowd to enjoy. Full set list revealed It's thought the epic set list has been leaked online ahead of the opener. According to one fan, they have claimed they heard the full rehearsal setlist after staying for the duration of the playback. World-renowned jazz artist to perform at 240-year-old Scottish hotel
Jazz star Dom Pipkin will launch Cronies Piano Lounge at Stirling's historic Golden Lion Hotel on July 9 A world-renowned jazz and blues pianist is set to bring his signature New Orleans sound to one of Scotland's most historic hotels next week. Dom Pipkin, hailed as 'one of the world's greatest exponents of New Orleans piano,' will perform at the Golden Lion Hotel in Stirling on Wednesday, July 9. The intimate gig will mark the launch of Cronies Piano Lounge, a new live music and cocktail space inside the centuries-old venue. The 66-bedroom Golden Lion has stood in the heart of Stirling for nearly 240 years and is famously linked to Rabbie Burns, who stayed there during a visit in 1787. According to legend, the poet was inspired by the dilapidated state of Stirling Castle to write his controversial 'Stirling Lines' and etched them into a pane of glass in his second-floor bedroom, only to later return and smash the window with the butt of his riding crop. Hotelier Gary Atinson said he was delighted to be welcoming Pipkin to such a storied venue. 'We're thrilled to have a true British jazz legend tinkling the ivories as we create Cronies Piano Lounge – a new home for superb music and classic cocktails,' he told Herald Scotland. 'My partner Ros and I have had the pleasure of seeing Dom perform initially in Ronnie Scotts in London, with Morcheeba in Cologne and, of course, in our Aberdeen hotel a few times. Once he dons that iconic hat and starts to play his unique mix of Big Easy sounds and songwriting with blues, it simply takes your breath away.' Pipkin's impressive career has seen him share stages with legends like Ray Davies and David Byrne, tour as a member of Morcheeba, and lead his own acclaimed band, The Ikos. He's a regular performer in New Orleans and is considered one of the UK's most respected interpreters of the city's musical traditions. Alongside his musical career, Pipkin has also made appearances on screen, including roles in Netflix's Black Doves and A Thousand Blows , the gritty historical drama from the creators of Peaky Blinders . His performance in Stirling won't be a one-off either. The hotel plans to build on the momentum by hosting regular lounge sessions, with top pianists lined up for Friday evenings, Saturday afternoons and nights, and relaxed Sunday jazz lunches. Pipkin himself is set to return for more performances later in the year. The Golden Lion stands on the site of The Gibb's Inn Tavern and Lodgings, rebuilt in the 1780s by Stirling businessman James Wingate and designed by the renowned Scottish architect Gideon Gray. It sits proudly on King Street, formerly known as Quality Street, renamed in 1820 to honour King George IV. Outside the hotel lies the historic 'New' Port Gate, a marker of Stirling's medieval past. It was here, legend says, that around the year 900 a wolf's growl alerted guards to a Danish Viking raid, helping to save the town. The wolf still features on Stirling's coat of arms as a symbol of its survival. Overlooking all of this stands the Golden Lion statue, a fixture of the cityscape for nearly two centuries. 'It has presided over many changes in our city, the ups and downs, the comings and goings,' the hotel says on its website. 'However, one thing remains constant: we continue to strive to provide a valuable service to visitors and travellers to and from Stirling alike.'
