Ludhiana: SAD chief accuses AAP of multi-crore land scam, protest on May 31
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of orchestrating a multi-hundred crore scam by allowing landowners to secure backdated Change of Land Use (CLU) permissions. He alleged the move was designed to exempt certain landowners from upcoming land acquisitions in villages surrounding Ludhiana.
Addressing a press conference, Badal claimed that the AAP government planned to acquire 24,311 acres of land despite failing to provide even basic infrastructure. He alleged that landowners were being asked to pay ₹1 crore per acre to avoid acquisition, calling it 'daylight robbery' and accusing the government of monetising exemptions for political gain.
'This scam is not limited to Ludhiana. It's also happening in Mohali, where acquisition notices have been issued even though the government hasn't developed 6,000 acres acquired earlier,' he said.
Badal warned government officials against participating in what he described as illegal activities, cautioning, 'Due action will be taken against officers who obey such unlawful orders.'
The SAD president announced a massive protest on May 31 outside the office of the chief administrator, GLADA, to oppose forced land acquisition and demand farmer consent.
He also took a swipe at chief minister Bhagwant Mann, alleging he had surrendered his powers to Delhi leaders Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain, effectively handing over Punjab's governance to Arvind Kejriwal's team.
The SAD chief also slammed the recent appointments of 'outsiders' to key state boards, calling them part of a broader plan to *extort money from Punjab's businessmen.
On the possibility of a future alliance with BJP, Badal said, 'We are open to alliance with any party that works in the interest of Punjab.'

The Chief Minister alleged that the Punjab Government is not implementing the Central Government's welfare schemes, depriving the public of their benefits. In contrast, the Haryana Government is procuring all crops from farmers at Minimum Support Price (MSP). He urged the Punjab Government to show concern for its farmers and ensure they receive fair prices for their produce. He said that the Haryana Government has provided over Rs. 15,500 crore as compensation to farmers for crop damage due to natural disasters over the past 10 years. Additionally, vegetable farmers are receiving compensation under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana. People in Haryana are also benefiting from the Ayushman Bharat scheme, whereas the people of Punjab remain deprived of its benefits, said the Chief Minister. (ANI)

Ludhiana: Congress bypoll candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu claimed that chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had lost control of government departments and should resign. Reacting to allegations of him having arranged the Vigilance summons himself using "his friend," VB SSP Jagatpreet Singh, to gain sympathy, Ashu said, "If that is really true, then don't you think Bhagwant Mann, who is the chief minister and heads the home and Vigilance departments, deserves to resign as he has no control over his own departments?" He added, "Right now the AAP candidate is in third place, and you never know, his fortunes may dip further to fourth place." He also claimed that the AAP candidate confided to his close aides that he had taken an unnecessary plunge into electoral politics. To a question that CM Mann justified the appointment of outsiders at various positions in the Punjab government by saying that talented people from one place can be posted at other places, Ashu asked the CM, "Tell us whether there was ever any appointment of any Punjabi from Punjab in Delhi during the 15 years of AAP rule there." Accusing AAP of exploiting resources of Punjab, Ashu equated the situation with the plunder unleashed during the invasion by Ahmad Shah Abdali. "Their only aim and purpose today is to loot and rob as much as they can, knowing well that their time is up but let it be clear to them that they will be held accountable for each and every penny they looted and robbed from Punjab," he said. Ashu also accused the AAP government of framing rivals. "You implicated people like me in false cases. Just remember that the cycle of justice does take a full turn and everybody will be held accountable," he asserted. Ludhiana: Punjab health minister Dr Balbir Singh held an election meeting in Kitchlu Nagar in support of AAP bypoll candidate, Sanjeev Arora on Saturday. Addressing the gathering, Dr Balbir Singh described Arora as a visionary and development-oriented leader with a clear blueprint for Ludhiana's progress. He asserted that Arora's victory would not only benefit Ludhiana (West) but also contribute to the development of the city and state. Dr Singh said that there was "strong public sentiment" in favour of Arora and credited him for visible development over the last three years. In contrast, he criticised an opponent who, despite having held a ministerial post in the past, failed to deliver results. Soliciting votes in favour of development, Dr Singh elaborated on the state government's initiatives in healthcare, such as the establishment of Aam Aadmi clinics and upgrade of existing health facilities. The minister lauded Arora for renovation of the Ludhiana civil hospital and said that it had now been upgraded to the level of private healthcare institutions.
