Purported videos of the assault on her were among the videos of abuse of hundreds of women, allegedly perpetrated by Prajwal, that had leaked in April last year. In the video, the woman could be heard pleading with Prajwal: 'Beda Anna, bittbidi, ('don't brother, please spare me').
ThePrint had met her family in Mysuru when she was abducted. 'We won't be bought', the family had declared then, as they grappled with the trauma of their mother being kidnapped, and learning of the assault on her.
'We were expecting a conviction order since we have video evidence of the crime,' Roopa Hassan, a Hassan-based activist, told ThePrint. 'It is a victory for all victims. It will definitely empower other women to speak up, but the question they're asking right now is: What happened to the case pertaining to distribution of the videos,' she added.

Police Intensify Scrutiny Of Hyderabad IVF Centre As Fresh Complaints Emerge

Police in Hyderabad have registered for new FIRs following fresh complaints by victims on an alleged IVF and surrogacy scam linked to the Universal Srushti Fertility Centre in Hyderabad. The new complaints, filed with the Gopalpuram police, accuse the centre's management of an elaborate scheme involving fraud, medical malpractice and financial extortion. The latest developments, which include a complaint by an NRI couple, bring to light the transnational reach of the alleged racket and a suspected organised network operating across the state. Police sources indicate that the investigation intensified after new victims came forward with documented evidence, including medical reports and financial transaction details. One couple from Nalgonda district claimed they were cheated of Rs 44 lakh. They named Dr Namratha, the fertility manager, along with Dr Sadanandam, Chenna Rao, Archana, and Surekha, as individuals who played active roles in the fraudulent scheme. An NRI couple claimed to have been allegedly duped of Rs 25 lakh. In a separate case, a Hyderabad-based woman accused Dr Namratha of administering unnecessary hormone injections under the guise of fertility treatment. She claimed to have been financially extorted through a network of individuals, including Dr Vidyulatha, Kalyani, Seshagiri, and Srinivasa Reddy, all of whom are staff members linked to the fertility centre. Investigators believe the scam may be part of a larger, well-coordinated racket that exploits legal loopholes and the emotional vulnerability of childless couples. Police are now probing links between the accused and possible external facilitators, and further arrests are anticipated. The investigation began earlier this year when initial complaints were filed by couples who felt misled and exploited by the fertility centre. Authorities are currently examining clinic records and financial trails. Legal experts anticipate that with more victims likely to come forward, the case could lead to criminal proceedings under multiple sections, including cheating, criminal conspiracy, and violations of medical ethics.

CM's domicile policy announcement triggers political slugfest

Patna: In a political slugfest, the opposition Grand Alliance on Monday accused the Nitish Kumar govt of copying their schemes and implementing it as its own in Bihar for votes. The ruling JD(U) questioned the RJD over nominating outsiders like Sanjay Yadav from Haryana to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar quota. CM Nitish Kumar on Monday announced domicile policy in the appointment of teachers in the state. The teacher aspirants had been demanding domicile policy in Bihar and threatened the govt with the slogan of 'No domicile, no vote' in the assembly elections due in Bihar later this year. Student leader Dilip said this is the victory of students. "Heartfelt thanks to the CM of Bihar," he said. But RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, in a sarcastic post on X wrote: "It is a matter of immense happiness that the ideologically bankrupt NDA govt, which used to outright reject our demand for implementing the domicile policy in Bihar, is copying our announcement like our other schemes. It is clear that this copycat NDA govt has no policy and vision of its own. The govt is dancing to our tunes, demands and announcements. " Tejashwi further said, "Be it the issue of social security pension, free electricity unit, govt jobs, increase in honorarium of cooks, night watchmen and physical education and health instructors, ASHA and Mamta workers or formation of youth commission, this govt of 20 years has copied our every announcement, scheme, vision and demand and hastily announced these in the election year. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like I thought my dad was 'boring'. " Reacting to the RJD allegations, JD(U) state chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said the Nitish govt has implemented domicile in the interest of the state. Taking a dig at the RJD, he said, "We have taken this decision in the interest of Bihari youth. Now the opposition, especially the RJD, should implement it in politics. Rajya Sabha nomination (Sanjay Yadav) was brought from Haryana. The rights of the youth of Bihar were usurped. They called from Singapore (Rohini Acharya) and gave tickets but did not care about the daughter living in Bihar. One who can have two voter cards will surely have double standards in his words," Neeraj said. But Prashant Kishor of Jan Surraj Party said the implementation of domicile is a victory of democracy and the people of Bihar.
