Christopher Landon Exited "Scream VII"  after Receiving Death Threats Over Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega Exits

Yara Sameh
"Scream 7" director Christopher Landon is opening up about what went down amid Melissa Barrera being fired from the film.
The director officially announced his departure from the horror sequel in December 2023, about a month after Barerra was fired from the movie due to social media posts she wrote about Israel and Palestine. Jenna Ortega's exit from 'Scream 7' was announced the day after Barerra's firing.
'I got messages saying, 'I'm going to find your kids, and I'm going to kill them because you support child murder,'' Landon said in an interview with
Vanity Fair
about the death threats he received after Barerra was fired. 'The head of security at various studios and the FBI had to examine the threats. It was highly aggressive and really scary.'
Landon said he was originally blamed online for Barerra's firing since he was the director attached to the entry, adding: 'I think in the absence of people understanding how Hollywood works and what the hierarchy is, the fans were like, 'That's the guy.' And so they came for me, knives out.'
'I did not fire her,' the director stressed. 'A lot of people think I had something to do with it, and it was not my doing. I had no control of the situation at all.'
When Landon announced his exit in December 2023, he wrote on social media that getting 'Scream 7' was 'a dream job that turned into a nightmare.' He told
Vanity Fair
the death threats against him are why.
'I decided I didn't want to give any part of myself to that,' Landon said. 'For me, it was not worth it. I would rather put my efforts into something else, where I could feel appreciated and respected. The hate and abuse really spoiled it for me, and I lost my love for the idea of going forward.' He continued, 'In the midst of all the chaos, I was grieving the loss of one of my dream jobs.'
Ortega said at the time of her exit that it was her 'shooting schedule' that was preventing her from starring in 'Scream 7,' but the actress told
The Cut
this month she left the film because of the fallout from Barrera's firing.
'The Melissa stuff was happening, and it was all kind of falling apart,' Ortega noted. 'If 'Scream 7' wasn't going to be with that team of directors and those people I fell in love with, then it didn't seem like the right move for me in my career at the time.'
Speaking to Variety on his 'Drop' press tour, Landon said that 'When I signed on to the project, I was told [Ortega] was out. That was one of the first things they told me, right when I signed on. And I was like, 'Oh shit, really?' So that was a bit of a shock to me.'
'And so at that time we were figuring out, how do we make another movie without her? How do we manage that?' he continued. 'So that was old news to me from the go. It made a lot of sense what she said, because I do think that sometimes when you're an actor, it'd be like Jessica Rothe finding out that we're making a third ['Happy Death Day'], but I'm not directing it. I think we all get very attached to the people that we work with and that we sort of align ourselves with creatively. And when somebody new comes in, it's like, 'Who's this guy?' So I totally got that, 100%.'
'Scream 7' has moved on with Kevin Williamson, the franchise's original screenwriter, stepping in to direct. The movie will feature the return of franchise icon Neve Campbell.

Tom Ellis to Play Lead Role in "FBI" Series "CIA"

Yara Sameh CBS has greenlighted a new series in the 'FBI' franchise focused on CIA agents. Tom Ellis is attached for one of the two lead roles in the drama, which is currently titled simply 'CIA.' It is set to air during the 2025-2026 broadcast season. The series was first reported to be in the works back in January, though at the time there were plans to have it begin as a backdoor pilot, with characters to be introduced during an episode of the current season of 'FBI.' The series' official logline states: ''CIA' is a one hour crime drama centered on two unlikely partners – a fast-talking, rule-breaking loose cannon CIA case officer (Ellis), and a by-the-book, seasoned and smart FBI agent who believes in the rule of law. When this odd couple are assigned to work out of CIA's New York Station, they must learn to work together to investigate cases and criminals posing threats on U.S. soil, finding that their differences may actually be their strength.' Casting for the remaining roles is ongoing. The series hails from writers Dick Wolf and David Hudgins. Both are executive producers along with Nicole Perlman, David Chasteen, and Peter Jankowski, with Hudgins set as showrunner. As with the other shows in the 'FBI' franchise, 'CIA' is produced by Universal Television in association with Wolf Entertainment and CBS Studios. News of the pickup comes just under two months after it was reported that both 'FBI: Most Wanted' and 'FBI: International' had been canceled at CBS. 'FBI' is currently in the first season of the three-season renewal it received in 2024. CBS has been high on expanding its existing franchises of late, with the broadcaster currently working on several more such projects. The network is also currently working on a spinoff of 'The Equalizer' starring Titus Welliver and Juani Feliz and a spinoff of the multi-cam comedy 'The Neighborhood' starring Marcel Spears and Sheaun McKinney. CBS has already ordered the 'Fire Country' spinoff 'Sheriff Country,' as well as the 'Blue Bloods' spinoff 'Boston Blue.' Ellis is best known for starring in the series 'Lucifer,' which was based on the DC Comics version of the Prince of Darkness. The show aired for three seasons on Fox before it was canceled, with Netflix picking it up and airing an additional three seasons. His other TV roles include the Hulu series 'Tell Me Lies' and the hit British comedy 'Miranda.' Ellis is also set to star opposite Sterling K. Brown in the upcoming Hulu limited series 'Washington Black.' read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Videos & Features Bouchra Dahlab Crowned Miss Arab World 2025 .. "A Minecraft Movie" Hits $550 Million Globally

Yara Sameh Will 'A Minecraft Movie' become the year's first blockbuster to hit the billion-dollar club? Well, Warner Bros. and Legendary's PG video game adaptation is certainly on its way to the elusive $1 billion mark as ticket sales soared past $500 million after two weekends of release. So far, 'Minecraft' has generated a massive $550.6 million globally, including $269.6 million at the international box office and $281 million domestically. It's already the highest-grossing film of the year, ahead of Disney and Marvel's 'Captain America: Brave New World' ($213 million internationally, $410 million globally after nine weeks on the big screen). Over the weekend, 'A Minecraft Movie' added another $79.6 million from 76 international markets, declining 45% from its overseas debut. Top territories include the United Kingdom ($39.8 million), China ($20.3 million), Germany ($18.9 million), and Mexico ($18.7 million). Disney and 20th Century's vigilante thriller 'The Amateur' started strongest among newcomers with $17.2 million from 52 territories. France was the highest-grossing market with $1.6 million, followed by the U.K. with $1.4 million and Mexico with $1.4 million. 'The Amateur,' starring Rami Malek as a vengeful CIA analyst who is hunting down the terrorists who killed his wife, opened in North America with $15 million for a global start of $32.2 million. Those initial sales are higher than expected, but with a $60 million price tag, 'The Amateur' needs staying power to justify its production budget. Another new release, Universal and Blumhouse's horror film 'Drop,' misfired in its international debut with $2 million from 47 markets. The movie was (slightly) more well attended in North America with $7.7 million, bringing its worldwide total to $10 million. Luckily, 'Drop' has decent reviews and cost just $11 million, so it doesn't require too much to get into the black. 'The White Lotus' breakout Meghann Fahy stars as Violet, a widowed mom who receives increasingly threatening and diabolical phone messages while she's on a first date with a man named Henry (Brandon Sklenar from 'It Ends With Us'). read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Videos & Features Bouchra Dahlab Crowned Miss Arab World 2025 ..
