Prep talk: Sherman Oaks Notre Dame softball faces big-time test
Sherman Oaks Notre Dame softball coach Justin Siegel was once the coach of Oklahoma standout Ella Parker in high school. Now he'll get to face future Sooner Kai Minor of Orange Lutheran in a Southern Section Division 1 playoff opener on Thursday.
"She's a great player," Siegel said.

It's one of the most intriguing playoff openers. Notre Dame has moved from Division 3 to Division 1 under third-year coach Siegel, whose team won the Mission League title. Orange Lutheran was Division 1 runner-up last season and won the Trinity League.
"It's sort of David vs. Goliath," Siegel said.
Notre Dame has six freshmen and is building toward the future. The Knights will need a strong performance from junior pitcher Aliyah Garcia, who is 15-3.
Orange Lutheran has young pitching, but it will be interesting to see how Notre Dame pitches to Minor. The Knights used to see coaches ordering intentional walks to Parker in high school. Minor presents a similar challenge with her speed and ability to create havoc.

ESPN believes that Notre Dame football will be a top-5 team over the next few seasons We all say that Notre Dame's football future is bright, and on Wednesday ESPN's Adam Rittenberg backed that idea up. When looking ahead to who he believes will be the top teams over the next two seasons, he ranked the Irish as his No. 5 team. It's a slight jump from last year, when Notre Dame was No. 7, for more than a few reasons. Rittenberg went on the explain that while the Irish aren't returning their starting quarterback, they should have a multiple year starts whoever (CJ Carr or Kenny Minchey) wins the job. He believes that the offensive line 'should be one of the nation's most talented groups,' along with the defensive line being loaded with talent despite having to replace more on this side of the ball. He lauds head coach Marcus Freeman's roster management, noting that the transfer additions will help immediately and 'retaining arguably the nation's best running back room and its gifted young offensive linemen.' Rittenberg mentions Notre Dame's star power also, as running back Jeremiyah Love, linebackers Drayk Bowen, cornerback Leonard Moore and safety Adon Shuler should be household names. As far as the coaching staff, Rittenberg has Freeman 'as one of the sport's top young coaches,' but did say that new defensive coordinator Chris Ash has 'big shoes' to fill replacing Al Golden. Put all this together, Notre Dame has one of the brighter immediate futures in college football, as just four others teams are viewed as being potentially better. It's going to a be a great few years of Irish football, starting very soon.

Notre Dame football will visit Arkansas with a noon kickoff time on September 27th As the college football season is quickly approaching, Notre Dame football is starting to find out more about its 2025 schedule. On Wednesday, the second road game of the year's start time was announced, a contest at Arkansas, an SEC team that occasionally has solid seasons. However, it hasn't been since 2021 since they had a top-3 conference finish, after going 4-8 last year. The battle between Notre Dame and Arkansas will be played on Sept. 27th., with the kickoff set for 12:00 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on ABC, as the Irish will look to take out yet another SEC team after defeating Georgia last year in the College Football Playoff and Texas A&M, who is the home opener opponent this year, in the season opener of 2024. This will be the first matchup between the two teams in their history, and we'll see if Notre Dame can once again go into SEC territory and return home with a victory.

Notre Dame's star RB Jeremiyah Love knows that teams have the Irish circled on their slate It is one thing to make the College Football Playoff championship game, it's entirely another to show the nation that you belong and that's exactly what Notre Dame did in the 2025 season. While they didn't win the title, it's three-game run in the CFP opened eyes across the country that the Irish aren't an overrated program, they are legit. Star running back Jeremiyah Love knows this is the case, as on Tuesday, he told On3 that 'people are coming at our necks, trying to make a statement. We welcome all of that. We're just going to do what we have to do to make it to the national championship again this year and win it all.' There is no doubt that Love has confidence in himself and his team, as Notre Dame was extremely young last year, and despite that, still played for a championship. While there are a few question marks heading into the season, like who will be the starting quarterback, the surrounding talent isn't one of those. It's shaping up to be a big year in South Bend, as the Irish are currently favored in each of their big games this fall, and should be making a return to the CFP with their eyes on a title.
