Ayush Shetty clinches US Open title; Tanvi Sharma makes history with final finish
In women's singles, 16-year-old Tanvi Sharma delivered one of the standout stories of the tournament, reaching the final with a string of fearless performances, with victories over World Ranks 23, 40, 50, and 58 en route, according to a release from the Badminton Association of India (BAI).
The 20-year-old rising star from Karnataka, Ayush, became the first Indian to win a World Tour title this season. The victory capped off a stellar week for Shetty, who also stunned World No. 6 and top seed Chou Tien-Chen in the semifinals to underline his potential on the big stage.
Though she fell to top seed Beiwen Zhang of the USA in three games (21-11, 16-21, 21-10), Tanvi etched her name in the record books as the youngest Indian ever to reach a BWF World Tour final.
The teenager, ranked World No. 66 and a member of India's Asian Team Championship-winning squad, showcased her readiness for the senior circuit with poise, variety, and attacking flair.

Winnipeg Jets sign 5 players to identical 2-way deals
The Winnipeg Jets announced the signing of five players to one-year, two-way contracts Wednesday morning, most of whom have spent the bulk of their pro careers at the AHL level. The club announced the signing of goalie Isaac Poulter, defenceman Kale Clague and forwards Phil Di Giuseppe, Walker Duehr and Samuel Fagemo, all on deals with an average annual value of $775,000 in the NHL. Poulter, 23, is a Winnipeg native and the great-great nephew of Hockey Hall of Famer Charlie Gardiner, who won the Vezina Trophy twice in the 1930s. His pro career has been primarily with the AHL's Utica Comets, where he had a 16-13-6 record last season, and the ECHL's Adirondack Thunder. Ira Sharma makes to main draw of Canada Open 2025
Calgary [Canada], July 2 (ANI): Indian shuttler Ira Sharma managed to qualify for the women's singles main draw of the Canada Open 2025 badminton tournament after winning her qualifier match at the Markham Pan Am Centre in Calgary on Tuesday. Ira Sharma, world No. 84 in the badminton rankings, made short work of Germany's world No. 119 Miranda Wilson, cruising to a 21-9, 21-13 victory in just 34 minutes. This was the Indian badminton player's second straight win over her German opponent in as many matches, as per Ira, who made the pre-quarterfinals at the US Open last week after starting from the qualifiers, will next face Bulgaria's Kaloyana Nalbantova in the opening round of the main draw, which will also feature India's Shriyanshi Valishetty and Tanya Hemanth. Meanwhile, Chirag Sen fell short of making the cut for the men's singles main draw at the BWF Super 300 tournament after losing 21-14, 21-10 to Malaysia's Eogene Ewe in the qualifiers. Sen is ranked 137th in the world while Ewe is 98th.
