Race 3 No. 9: MERAPI
Could not be better placed at her second run for an astute new yard.
NEXT BEST
Race 2 No. 4: HOMELAND
Placed four from 10. Reliable and drawn well this time.
VALUE BET
Race 6 No. 10: LOVE RAT
Big run first-up in a much superior Benchmark 58 to what this is.
INSIDE MAIL - GOULBURN
RACE 5: GOULBURN POST MAIDEN HANDICAP 1500m
SHE REX (1) is trained by Ciaron Maher who also trains her very close relation, Pride Of Jenni. She Rex might end up being a good investment on her $240,000 Inglis Classic Sale outlay in 2023. So far, she has placed at five of her six starts; she has been terribly costly, but in much better races than this. Zero excuses. HIDDEN MOGUL (11) doesn't know how to run a bad race. She could potentially make this favourite earn the win.
Bet: She Rex to win, exacta 1 to beat 11
RACE 6: ABERNETHY GORE SOLICITORS COUNTRY BOOSTED BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1500m
LETHAL LADY (2) was so unlucky it wasn't fair at Wagga during the carnival. Fast forward to her last start and she was third at the Sapphire Coast when coming from a long way back as usual. That's not easy to do there. Easier here though. Luke Pepper is flying himself but he's also got HELL OF A FOX (3) on a hat-trick. In fact, she should be going for four straight since she got down to Canberra.
Bet: Lethal Lady to win, quinella 2, 3, Daily Double 1st leg 2, 2nd leg 3
RACE 7: HIBERNIAN HOTEL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1600m
BOMBELLEISTIC (3) is the fourth foal of his dam; all of her foals are housed by Team Joseph/Jones who bred the lot of them. As this for one, he has a win and two seconds from eight starts but you could argue that nothing he has done has contained as much merit as his fifth in very strong Class 1 at Scone on Cup Day. CHEBICI (2) is on a hat-trick. Easy to like with the good alley and Coriah Keatings doing the right thing by her all the time.
Bet: Bombelleistic to win, box trifecta 2, 3, 5, 9
RACE 8: CAMPBELL PETROLEUM DISTRIBUTORS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200m
ORTHIE'S BOYS (3) has been with Richard Collett for the last three of his five career starts. Those were; a barnstorming second here, another 'from last' fourth at Gosford then a fading on-pace fifth at Kembla. Maybe he didn't see out the 1400m but we're back to 1200m in weaker grade today. For what it is worth, I think COUGARS (1) is a pretty handy horse and sure, they've all got to carry big weights here, but he's got the biggest and 62kg is a big number.
Bet: Orthie's Boy to win
INSIDE MAIL - CASINO
RACE 6: BACK TO THE ROYAL COUNTRY BOOSTED BENCHMARK 58 SHOWCASE HANDICAP 1200m
LOVE RAT (10) is a get back and run on type, perhaps better suited at Grafton but here we are at Casino. The son of Love Conquers All has a troubling second-up record but if you can overlook that and the wide draw, he is in this with as a good a chance as any and better than most. AYE AYE SKIPPER (1) is in fabulous form, and has been for a while too, but this is as bad a draw as the horse has been dealt in all that time.
Bet: Love Rat each-way
RACE 7: CASINO FOOD CO-OP CASINO FLYING 1000m
DIS IS HEAVEN (5) is '3213' heading into the Casino Flying. They were all good quality affairs too, but none were any harder than his May 7 assignment at Warwick Farm when and where Colt Prosser's gelding was an honourable third. Stablemate and MNC Championships Qualifier placegetter BJORN IRONSIDE (4) has raced once at 1000m; that was the day he carried 62kg at Taree when he won by two lengths.
Bet: Dis Is Heaven to win, quinella 4, 5, box trifecta 1, 3, 4, 5, DD 1st Leg 5, 2nd Leg 5
RACE 8: CASINO RSM CLUB BEEF WEEK CUP 1400m
SECRET PLAN (1) is a Queenslander, via Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. The Bob Peters-bred galloper has been with Tony and Maddysen Sears for the last three runs, the most recent of them was a third at Eagle Farm. On-pace type with a manageable weight now after Jett Newman's claim. COLLAY'S SPIRIT (4) could very well tally up his 10th career win, third-up. Note that Luke Rolls is one win and two placings on the horse. The best CENOTES (6) is better than a lot of these.
Bet: Secret Plan to win
RACE 9: WAL'S CONCRETING CLASS 3 SHOWCASE HANDICAP 1400m
MONTE MAXIMUS (5) probably deserves a bit more credit for his last handful of runs than would normally be afforded to a horse with a '7295' lead in. All in all, 1400m is in the right range for the Noel Mayfield-Smith-trained son of Invader and he gets a little bit of weight off on what he has been carrying lately. Former Godolphin galloper STYLISED (1) is ready to produce now that he is out to 1400m. The more scratchings the better in view of that wide alley.
Bet: Monte Maximus each-way

England fans lose minds over Mohammed Siraj's fifth Test celebration

Don't miss out on the headlines from Cricket. Followed categories will be added to My News. England cricket fans have fumed that India should be disqualified from their Test match victory after Mohammed Siraj's 'cringe' celebration. Siraj, 31, didn't hold back during his celebrations after India stunned England to win the Fifth Test by six runs, The Sun reports. Australia vs South Africa T20I & ODI Series | Watch every ball LIVE on Kayo Sports | New to Kayo? Join now and get your first month for just $1. Siraj and his teammates pulled off a devastating showing as they took three wickets in just over 30 minutes of play to leave an injured Chris Woakes needing to take to the crease with his arm in a sling. Woakes, who has been out of the series since dislocating his shoulder on day one of the final Test, was forced to come out and partner Gus Atkinson and bat with one hand as England searched for just 17 runs to win the series. The drama came to an end when Siraj bowled out Atkinson to win the Test and draw the series. And the fast-bowler made sure everyone packed inside The Oval knew exactly how much it meant to him as he leapt up and celebrated by emulating Cristiano Ronaldo's 'Siu' celebration in the middle of the pitch. (Photo byfor Surrey CCC) But England fans were left furious by the celebration, slamming it as 'cringe' and excessive. One fan wrote: 'I just cringed so hard at Siraj pulling the Siu in the middle of The Oval.' While another added: 'That celebration is shocking'. A third fumed: 'Why are they celebrating like they won the whole thing?' And a fourth even suggested India should be disqualified, writing: 'India should be disqualified from winning that purely on the basis of Siraj doing Ronaldo's celebration. God that's cringe'. X Learn More SUBSCRIBER ONLY Others praised Siraj for his moment of brilliance that tied the series for India. One wrote: 'Siraj, what a spell. And that celebration … chills. When Ronaldo is your idol, greatness isn't a choice, it's fate.' And a second posted: 'Yeah, Siraj has got that clutch Ronaldo gene'. England captain Ben Stokes said that his team were 'bitterly disappointed' not to get over the line and win the series following India's dramatic final Test victory. Siraj played the role of hero for India during the final Test. (Photo by) 'Both teams have put so much energy and effort into this whole series, it's been an amazing one to be a part of,' Stokes said to Sky Sports. 'Obviously bitterly disappointed that we couldn't get over the line here, but (it's been) a series that has made me very proud of my team and everything they've thrown into this. 'We obviously would have loved to have come away with the series win but it wasn't meant to be'. This article originally appeared on The Sun and was reproduced with permission. Queensland trainer David Vandyke eyes Victorian Group 1 mission for the first time since Alligator Blood

David Vandyke will head back to the scene of Alligator Blood's first Group 1 triumph when he attacks the Empire Rose Stakes with exciting mare Philia during the Victorian spring carnival. Philia was an excitement machine during the Queensland winter carnival, winning four on the bounce and starting favourite for the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) where she endured a tough run and was beaten 2.5 lengths. Group 2 winner Philia has now returned to Vandyke's Sunshine Coast stable and the astute trainer will aim her at races in her sweet spot of 1600m-2000m. Vandyke and connections had been weighing up a potential mission to Sydney for the riches of the $10m Golden Eagle, but the decision was made that she will head to Melbourne. Mindful that Philia had a busy winter, Vandyke will give her a light spring campaign with the plan to then unleash her in some big races during the 2026 autumn. However, he has revealed that the $1m Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes over 1600m at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup carnival is a key spring goal. Flemington was where Vandyke won the 2020 Group 1 Australian Guineas with Alligator Blood when he trained the now retired seven-time Group 1 winning superstar at the start of the galloper's magical career. Vandyke doesn't think he has had a Melbourne runner since the Alligator Blood adventure, but is looking forward to deploying frontrunning type Philia. 'I want to give her a fairly light spring, she was up a long time going into the winter carnival,' Vandyke said. 'We just hop on a plane at Brisbane Airport and she is there pretty quickly. 'Potentially, she will have one run and then into the Empire Rose. 'Sydney was certainly a consideration, but we ended up making the call to go to Melbourne.' Kerrin McEvoy developed a strong association with Philia during the winter carnival and was impressed at every step of her winter journey. Vandyke says Philia, now four, is back in his stable and had bulked up after a six-week break. 'She will have a couple of runs in spring and then we will look at giving her a good, strong autumn campaign,' he said. 'She has had a good six weeks off and she has come back a lot stronger. 'I will look at targeting races from a mile to 2000m for her. 'I don't think less than a mile is suitable for her and I don't know about more than 2000(m) at this point.' In early betting markets on TAB fixed odds, Fangirl is the $4.50 favourite for the Empire Rose Stakes and Philia is rated a $26 chance.

Simon Goodwin sacked by Melbourne Demons after weeks of turmoil

Don't miss out on the headlines from AFL. Followed categories will be added to My News. Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin has been shown the door with three rounds remaining in the 2025 season. Goodwin's fate was sealed on Monday night when he was told by the board his services were no longer required. The premiership winning coach had faced an uncertain future thanks to the club's fall down the ladder with Code Sports' Jay Clark reporting the board had lost faith in the direction of the team under his leadership. Goodwin was contracted through to the end of the 2026 season, however the club determined they wanted a change made instantly. The 48-year-old, who led the club to the 2021 premiership, will receive a near one-million dollar payout. According to reports, Demons players were set to be told the news on Tuesday morning, but the news has leaked out before they could hear it first hand. The club is reportedly set to hold a press conference at midday. Simon Goodwin is out as the coach of the Dees. Picture: Michael Klein Goodwin had found himself on an increasingly hot seat as the Demons languish in the lower half of the ladder with a 7-13 record. Despite all the growing noise, Goodwin was adamant he had the backing of the board in the wake of their historic loss to St Kilda two weeks ago. 'We're all very aligned about the process of where we need to go to, what we need to create success,' Goodwin said last week. 'We always knew that in this transition period that there would be challenges, our job is not to get consumed with the noise. × 'Our job is to go about the process … these conversations are ongoing and we're really clear about the strategy. I feel incredibly supported by the board, I have for nine years. 'I've been able to go through these challenges before with clarity and strength and stability to create success; 2019 we finished second last, two years later we won the flag. 'You can't get consumed in noise, all you can do is be clear with your strategy, clear with your process, understand challenge, be clear about it and go about the process to build the next great team – I feel incredibly supported by the board.' (Photo by Josh Chadwick/AFL Photos/via Getty Images) Club great Garry Lyon was 'shocked' to learn of Goodwin's axing after being informed live on air Tuesday morning. 'I'm stunned, shocked, totally shocked,' Lyon said on SEN Breakfast. 'I had no heads up on this whatsoever. Absolutely just shocked, I can't get my head around it. 'He won't be coaching a farewell game, that's something I can promise you.' Lyon believed a call on Goodwin's future wouldn't be made until the end of the season before praising Goodwin as a hero for guiding the club to a drought-breaking premiership. 'I'm absolutely stunned. I thought there would be a long review at the end of this year and then determine whether he would coach out his final year,' he added. 'Premiership coaches are pretty rare at the Melbourne footy club. He's one of four. 'He will be a hero of this football club forever and a day, but that obviously doesn't guarantee your tenure. 'This is a massive call.' X Learn More SUBSCRIBER ONLY The club are facing an uncertain offseason with several star players finding themselves in swirling trade rumours. Clayton Oliver was reportedly halfway out the door at the end of the 2024 season and is expected to once again find himself in the thick of trade talks. Fellow midfield superstar Christian Petracca also contemplated a trade away from the club last season before ultimately staying put. But with another lacklustre season in the books, rumours are already ramping up that the 29-year-old could be eyeing off greener pastures. 'Is the writing on the wall for Christian Petracca at Melbourne?,' Jay Clark posed on Fox Footy's The First Crack. Simon Goodwin is gone, could Christian Petracca be out next? (Photo by Michael Willson/AFL Photos via Getty Images) 'It doesn't feel like there's a (trade) market for Clayton Oliver at the moment and Jack Viney is a Demon for life. Petracca is the one who has been frozen out. 'Can he accept he could be more of a permanent forward at Melbourne as the new era settles in? Like Toby Greene. Or does he at 29 years of age still think he can be that superstar on-baller? 'Because if he does, maybe that has to be at another club. We talked a lot about Collingwood and Carlton last year, is the best fit for him Hawthorn?' Melbourne will finish the 2025 season with games against the Western Bulldogs, Hawthorn and Collingwood. The club has yet to announce who will take over as caretaker coach for the remaining games. Originally published as AFL premiership coach Simon Goodwin sacked on the spot
