‘Garden State' Soundtrack Comes To Life In Anniversary Concert

Great soundtracks don't just define a movie. The best soundtracks define an era and a scene.
Of course, the '70s disco era will forever be associated with the timeless Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. In the '80s the soundtrack was Purple Rain. The '90s grunge era was earmarked by the soundtrack to Singles. And the 2000s indie scene belongs to the Garden State soundtrack.
Scrubs star Zach Braff's 2004 directorial debut, starring Braff, Natalie Portman, Peter Sarsgaard, Ian Holm and Method Man, became a surprise box-office hit thanks, in part, to the Grammy-winning soundtrack. Braff, who hand-picked every song painstakingly carefully as he told me in a 2004 interview when the film was released, also expertly wove the soundtrack into the film. Who can forget the iconic moment in the movie when Portman made everyone in the world fall in love with The Shins by looking directly at Braff and saying, 'You have to hear this song, it will change your life.'
Last Saturday, March 29, the soundtrack was brought to life at L.A.'s Greek Theatre in a special twentieth anniversary benefit concert for the Midnight Mission, a homeless shelter and resources provider in Los Angeles since 1914.
Almost all of the original artists – including The Shins, Iron & Wine, Cary Brothers, Thievery Corporation, Remy Zero and more – were on hand, as well as a few surprise guests. Grammy winner Laufey filled in for Coldplay on their 'Don't Panic,' Milk Carton Kids covered Simon & Garfunkel's 'The Only Living Boy in New York' and Madison Cunningham joined Iron & Wine on Nick Drake's 'One of These Things First.' Also on hand was Colin Hay, a frequent guest on Scrubs. The night ended with an all-star tribute to Tom Petty, an excellent choice, for his work with the Midnight Mission.
For those who didn't get to see the once-in-a-lifetime show, which featured appearances by Braff, Portman, Sarah Paulson, Danny Devito and more, the show will air tonight on Veeps

The Dakota has a secret Prince-themed dessert that's not on the menu
The Dakota has a secret Prince-themed dessert that's not on the menu originally appeared on Bring Me The News. There aren't really weeks where Prince isn't celebrated in the Twin Cities, but he's being celebrated with extra vigor this week between Celebration 2025, the new Purple Path, and other Prince-related events. While taking in a concert or watching Purple Rain, The Dakota has added an off-menu, Prince-themed treat. The concert venue where Prince often caught shows and played six back-to-back concerts in 2013 is serving Prince's Favorite Cookie (aka The PFC). However, you'll have to be in the know to order it, since it's not listed on the menu. The cookie was reputedly a treat Prince often ordered when catching live music at the Dakota. It's described as a "crispy-on-the-outside, chewy-on-the-inside" cookie with white chocolate and macadamia nuts, finished with a bit of lime and sea salt. Throughout 2025, the PFC will be baked up in a limited quantity by Executive Chef Asher Zulkosky, reviving the original treat created by former pastry chef Katie Elsing from 2012 to 2015. "Prince was always coming in with his entourage," Elsing recalls. "As soon as word came down he was expected, I knew to have a batch of these cookies ready for him and his guests just in case he had a craving for something sweet." The PFC's return is well-timed with Prince's June 7 birthday and the Celebration 2025 events in Downtown Minneapolis, but it's also part of the venue's 40th anniversary celebration. Throughout the Dakota's 40th anniversary year, the culinary team will revive dishes from the Dakota's history as a nod to past chefs such as Ken Goff and Jack Riebel, reminding concertgoers that the Nicollet Mall venue isn't just known for what's happening on the story was originally reported by Bring Me The News on Jun 6, 2025, where it first appeared.

Zach Braff Talks About How J.D. is Different in the SCRUBS Series Reboot - "It's Very, Very Hard to Be a Doctor Today" — GeekTyrant
Actor Zach Braff has had a solid career both in front of and behind the camera, but it all started with the beloved TV series Scrubs , which he's about to return to. The show is coming back, and with its original creator, Bill Lawrence, behind it, it seems like it's bound to bring back some of the original charm, however, Braff says he feels like he needs to approach his character in a whole new way. Braff and Lawrence appeared at the ATX TV Festival (via TVLine), where they talked about bringing the show back in a way that recaptures the heart of it, while acknowledging that being a doctor is much different compared to when J.D. first joined Sacred Heart when the show started 24 years ago. Braff got into it, stating: 'When Bill and I shoot the shit about it, [we ask ourselves] how do you still have the spirit of the [original] show — the humor and the heart of the show, and the fantasies and all the fun stuff that we all loved? 'The show was about a young doctor coming into this new world, so what is it like [to be] a doctor who is 50 and has been beaten down by the system? It's very, very hard to be a doctor today.' It's been 15 years since the show ended its first run, and Braff talked about playing an older version of his character, saying: 'And what is [JD's] life like now? Obviously, you can still have the bromance, and the love, and the friendship. But coming at it from the opposite angle, what is it like for a guy who has been through this system and dealing with all that stuff for so long?' When you go hard on a medical drama and really get down to the trauma and fatigue, you get a show like The Pitt , which is fantastic, but it's so tonally opposite from Scrubs. So if they're looking to be fun, but still be realistic, they'll have to find that sweet spot. The returning series is still in early stages, but we should be hearing more as it presses forward. Are you looking forward to the Scrubs reboot?
