Sneaker Drive honors the life of Noah Farrelly
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A local nonprofit is honoring the life of a young athlete through a sneaker drive and fun-filled community events.
The Noah Farrelly Memorial Fund is delivering 500 pairs of running sneakers to students across the Binghamton City School District.
The donation is part of the non-profit's Farrelly's Feet initiative, which has donated over 2,000 pairs of shoes since its founding in 2019.
The fund was organized in honor of Noah Farrelly, who was a Binghamton High School Graduate and a member of the Stony Brook Cross Country team.
The 18-year-old was tragically struck by a vehicle while out for a run in December of 2018.
Noah's mother and President of the Fund, Bridgette Farrelly-Hess, says the shoe donations are leaving a lasting impact.
'I'm a substitute teacher here in Binghamton Schools. It warms my heart when I'm in a building and I can spot shoes on children's feet that I know came from our program, and it's just a fantastic feeling that we can see the good that we're doing in action,' said Farrelly-Hess.
Along with the drive, the fund also provides scholarships, raises awareness about running safety, and organizes races and field days.
The 7th Annual Noah Farrelly Run and Southside Field Day is taking place this Sunday and will feature 5k and 10k races, a kickball tournament, inflatables, face painting, and more family activities.
