Nottingham Forest made a mockery of Nuno Espirito Santo's pre-match worries as they beat Brentford 3-1 in their opening game of the Premier League season. Nuno expressed his 'concern' for the campaign ahead of the match, citing a lack of options in his squad, but he will feel better after a rampant display at the City Ground. After new signings Omari Hutchinson and James McAtee were unveiled before kick-off, their new team-mates put on a show as Chris Wood's double and a debut goal for Dan Ndoye put them 3-0 up at the break. With more signings to come and a Europa League journey to look forward to after last season's seventh-place finish, Forest fans may have more optimism than their manager after this opener. It was the start that new Brentford boss Keith Andrews would have dreaded. With Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Norgaard sold over the summer and Yoane Wissa effectively on strike trying to force a move away, Andrews has not been handed the easiest of tasks in his first managerial role. Igor Thiago got the Bees on the scoresheet with a second-half penalty, but life after Thomas Frank began poorly. Forest had only scored one goal in six excruciating pre-season friendlies, but they needed just six minutes to break the deadlock. Elliot Anderson's corner fell to Wood and the striker picked up where he left off last season by slamming home the loose ball from close range. Such was the novelty of scoring a goal, the celebrations on the touchline were wild, with goalkeeping coach Rui Barbosa needing medical treatment after hitting his head on the roof of the dugout and suffering a nasty cut. Forest were electric and almost scored a brilliant team goal as new signing Ndoye, Morgan Gibbs-White and Anderson all combined, with the latter seeing a goalbound shot well blocked by Sepp van den Berg. Brentford looked to establish themselves in the game and forced goalkeeper Matz Sels into a good save when Yehor Yarmolyuk fizzed in a low shot. But Forest continued to dominate and two goals in five minutes before half-time sent them into dreamland. In the 42nd minute Gibbs-White arced in a delicious cross for Ndoye to send a flying header into the top corner. Then in the second minute of time added on Wood doubled his tally when he latched on to Anderson's through ball and rounded Caoimhin Kelleher to put it in an empty net. Forest were irresistible after the break as they searched for more goals. Callum Hudson-Odoi, on the brink of signing a new contract, stung the palms of Kelleher before Gibbs-White hooked an acrobatic effort just over the crossbar. Brentford brought on Jordan Henderson in the 68th minute as they tried to stem the tide and 10 minutes later they had reduced their deficit. Forest midfielder Ibrahim Sangare handled the ball in the area and Thiago rolled home the resulting penalty. There was no grandstand finish, though, as Forest got their season off to a winning start.

And with the countdown on to the Champions League play-off tie with Kairat Almaty time is rapidly running out to add new faces for the £40million shoot-out. The Glasgow giants will look to return to Europe's elite competition and the jackpot that comes with reaching the league phase. And while Celtic have already announced their squad the Hoops have the chance to add up to two players by next Tuesday before the first leg the following night - and remove two of the current crop. Despite offering a prickly response to another transfer probe following the win over Falkirk in the Premier Sports Cup, Rodgers insisted he was hopeful that new additions would be in the door before the clash with the champions of Kazakhstan. A new winger is high up on the shopping list following the departure of Nicolas Kuhn while Jota remains sidelined. Michel-Ange Balikwisha remains an option with Royal Antwerp open to a deal for the wide man who is in the final year of his contract. However, his agent has revealed Celtic must make the first move while the club will reportedly sell as soon as the £4.7million price tag is met. That would see the club recoup the fee they paid Standard Liege for the star back in 2021 Cagliari's Adam Obert is also said to be attracting interest from Celtic and in Germany with a £6million price tag has been placed on the 22-year-old. Gazzetta dello Sport report that a move could materialise quickly for the wide man with his destination "far from certain" with initial offers expected imminently from the likes of Bundesliga side Heidenheim. Andy Irving has been touted with a £3.5million West Ham exit and The People state that the Premier League side will left the Scot leave London 'for the right price.' Former England international Paul Robinson thinks a quick-fire departure could be in motion for the 25-year-old. Robinson told The Inside Track: 'From the player's point of view, he's at that stage in his career. "He's gone to West Ham where he's not really had that much game time and he's going to want to play. "I think he's a really good player, there's a top player in there, and he's one of these players who will get better if he plays regularly and plays every week. 'A move away from West Ham seems the only option if he's going to get that. The way Graham Potter rotates his side and changes players, it doesn't look like he's going to get much game time. A striker is also on the agenda - and the option to make a move for Cluj's Louis Munteanu is alive as Rodgers' looks to find a rival for Adam Idah. Celtic reportedly had a £6.9million bid booted out for the Romania striker earlier in the window - with the Cluj president Nelu Varga insisting theclub they were holding out for around £18million. Munteanu refused to play in last week's Europa League defeat to Braga, according to reports, with Stade Rennes also chasing a deal. Cluj claimed that the forward was injured but reports suggest that the striker has rebelled over a missing payment. Varga has now been warned by agent Giovanni Becali that he may have to cash in urgently - and accept much less than his personal price tag - as his fee will plummet if the star refuses to plan. He said: "Nelutu Varga has already taken part of those 18 million from Louis Munteanu. He took the down payment and will take another instalment in the winter. They said 'let's let him play with you because he can make a living'." And while firepower has been the demand from boss Rodgers, he could still bolster his backline before the crucial Champions League playoff. Le Havre defender Etienne Youte has already admitted he is awaiting the right club for his next move this summer after entering the final year of his contract. L'Equipe suggest the Scottish Premiership champions have joined Anderlecht and Besiktas in the race to land the 23-year-old - with the Ligue 1 outfit ready to accept a €5million (£4.3million) fee this summer.

Avram Glazer is in attendance this afternoon for the beginning of Manchester United 's Premier League season. The Red Devils co-owner has been rarely seen at Old Trafford in recent years amid huge disgruntlement in the United fanbase over his refusal to complete a full sale of the club. Supporters have accused the Glazers of burdening United with huge debts and failing to invest in the club's infrastructure. But Avram, who was seemingly without his brother Joel in Manchester, appeared in good spirits as he was spotted strolling around Old Trafford ahead of kick-off with United CEO Omar Berrada. The American even stopped for a photo with a couple of United supporters before disappearing beneath the stands. Avram and Berrada, along with Jason Wilcox, will no-doubt be desperate for Ruben Amorim and his side to make a positive start to their league campaign this afternoon as they host the Gunners. Two out of the three have been named in the United starting eleven against Mikel Arteta's side, with Sesko amongst the substitutes. Cunha, Mbuemo and Mason Mount make up Amorim's frontline, with a midfield four of Patrick Dorgu, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot behind them. Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Luke Shaw start in defence, with Altay Bayindir in goal. Amid speculation over their futures, both Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund have been left out of the matchday squad entirely. Hojlund has been linked with a United exit this summer with AC Milan thought to be one of the club's interested in him. The Dane's exile from today's squad comes after he was an unused substitute last week against Fiorentina.
