Iconic '80s Rocker, 64, Nearly Unrecognizable in Rare Public Outing
A member of a hugely popular '80s rock band was out interacting with fans in Italy over the weekend.
John Taylor, founding member and bassist for legendary '80s new wave rock group Duran Duran, was photographed walking through the streets of Rome, Italy, on Sunday, June 15, where he stopped to interact with some fans.
Duran Duran, made up of Taylor, Nick Rhodes, Simon Le Bon and Roger Taylor (no relation), is considered one of the biggest bands that was part of the Second British Invasion of U.S. music, this one largely fueled by the rise of MTV and music videos. The new wave group burst on the scene with cinematic, sometimes eyebrow-raising music videos for their songs "Girls on Film," "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "Rio," plus they topped U.S. charts with their James Bond theme song for the film of the same name, "A View to a Kill."In fact, Duran Duran won two Grammy Awards for their music videos, both in 1984 — Best Music Video Short Form for "Girls on Film" and "Hungry Like the Wolf," and Best Music Video Long Form for their self-titled video album.
The band received the MTV Video Music Awards Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.
Their Hall of Fame induction actually led to their most recent album, Danse Macabre. They were basically doing a warm-up for the Hall of Fame ceremony that involved a Halloween-themed concert and that led to the album, which is full of spooky covers of their greatest hits, covers of other artists' songs, plus three new songs.
John Taylor told Classic Pop Mag of the album, "On Danse Macabre, you can really see behind the curtain of who the whole band is."

While she was packing to leave for work, her mother remained upstairs. She then received a phone call from her mom. It was unusual because they were in the same house. 'Your voice is super high,' Kravitz remembered telling her mother. She then recalled how her mother admitted she was 'in a little bit of a pickle.' When the actor reached upstairs, she saw that her mother was inside the bathroom, crouched in a corner, clutching the snake's tail. Orpheus, which is the name of the snake, had discovered 'a little hole in the corner' beside a built-in banquette. The gap was barely visible, yet large enough for the snake to slip inside. 'Snake tails are all muscle,' Kravitz noted. 'They're very strong.' It was getting increasingly difficult for her mom to hold him. The situation escalated quickly. As the snake kept going deeper, Kravitz — all panicky — removed the drawers from the banquette. She wanted to check if they could locate him behind them. She said that the moment felt a lot like a scene from 'Jurassic Park,' describing the sense of losing ground with each passing second. Her assistant Caroline arrived but couldn't help. Swift's house manager stepped in, grabbing a crowbar to dismantle part of the structure. 'We were ripping up the tile, scratching the walls,' she recalled. Faced with either leaving the snake in the house or damaging the bathroom, 'The Batman' actor chose the latter. In the end, the bathroom was destroyed, but they managed to save Orpheus. Later, Kravitz, with a 'very high voice,' nervously called Swift to confess and said, 'Hey, I just wanted to talk to you about something.' Before she could even explain, Swift replied, 'Is it the fact that you almost lost a snake in our house and destroyed my bathroom?' Orpheus is currently safe and sound. Meyers and Kravitz ended the story with a joke, suggesting Swift's next album is titled 'Orpheus, obviously,' and how the snake will get 'like three songs.' And while there's no official confirmation that the song is concerning itself with that topic, a new report from People suggests that Blake and Taylor's friendship is still not going very well at the moment.
