‘Holy water' from Pune ‘miracle tree' turns out to be pipe leak, video of locals rushing to collect it draws flak: ‘height of superstition'

Indian Express4 days ago

A bizarre scene unfolded when Pune residents were seen rushing to Pimpri's Premlok Park area, where 'holy water' was seen flowing out from the trunk of a gulmohar tree. The people there believed the water had 'healing powers', and many called it a 'miracle tree'. However, the civic body later discovered that the phenomenon was caused by a leaking underground water pipeline.
According to Punekar News, the incident happened near the main road outside the Sahara Society between 7 pm and 11 pm on June 6. The video of the incident recorded by onlookers is now doing the rounds on the Internet and has drawn sharp criticism.
The viral clip shows people offering garlands and putting turmeric and vermilion on the tree's trunk. Soon after the incident came to light, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) launched an investigation into the matter, following which they discovered the leaking pipe. 'It's not a miracle. An old water pipeline runs beneath the tree. Due to a leak, the water found an outlet through the hollow trunk,' Punekar News quoted Pravin Dhumal, Deputy Engineer, B Regional Office, as saying.
Sharing the video, an X user Satya wrote, 'In the area of Pimpri Chinchwad, citizens began offering garlands, flowers, turmeric, and vermilion to a tree, worshipping it after seeing water coming from it. Later, some sensible citizens informed the municipal corporation about this, and during the investigation, it was revealed that a water pipeline had burst beneath the tree.'

The video quickly gained traction, sparking backlash, with one user saying, 'If only we chased education, infrastructure, and healthcare with the same speed we chase miracles.' Another user commented, '2025 and we wonder why India isn't progressing.'
'The height of superstition. India, which was known as the world teacher two thousand years ago; where there were so many philosophers, which are not found anywhere else in the world at one place, today it is sad to see its condition,' a third user reacted. 'I am not surprised,' a fourth user chimed in.

Bhopal's 90-Degree Railway Bridge Reminds Everyone Of Temple Run Game, Here's Why

Last Updated: A railway overbridge (RoB) constructed in Bhopal with a strange 90-degree turn has left social media users baffled. A photo of a railway overbridge (RoB) constructed in Bhopal has gone viral on social media because of a unique yet dangerous feature – its 90-degree sharp turn. Constructed near Aishbagh Stadium, the bridge's dangerous turn may not have been an oversight. The officials associated with the construction of the railway overbridge cited the lack of land in the area and the presence of a nearby metro rail station, a report in PTI stated. That the sharp angle wasn't an engineering fault but a design choice. 'Due to the metro station, there is limited availability of land at the point. Due to the lack of land, there was no other option. The purpose of the RoB is to connect the two colonies." Only small vehicles will run on this overbridge, he said, adding that heavy vehicles will not be allowed to use it. 'It will be operated with full safety and the speed of vehicles as per the instructions of the Indian Road Congress," PTI quoted Public Works Department (Bridge Department) Chief Engineer V D Verma as saying. Built at a reported cost of Rs 18 crore, the bridge is yet to be operational for the public. A photo of the odd structure soon circulated on social media platform 'X' with many raising concerns regarding the 90-degree turn and it could potentially be dangerous for motorists. People also hilariously compared the bridge to the popular Temple Run game. The bridge reminded folks on the Internet of a clock tower built in Bihar that made national headlines earlier this year. This shabbily painted, poorly finished, concrete clock tower in Bihar Sharif, built under 'Smart City' project, had its clock stop working within 24 hours of the production cost? Only ₹40 lakh! Just 40 lakhs for this architectural marvel! Hats off! — THE SKIN DOCTOR (@theskindoctor13) April 6, 2025 The clock tower built in Bihar Sharif was made functional in a haste during Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Pragati Yatra, a report in Dainik Bhaskar stated. However, in a day's time after its setup, the clock stopped ticking. It is said that thieves barged into the structure to steal copper wires. The tower stood lifeless thereafter. The time it displayed (as seen in widely-circulated photos) twice a day was 4:20. Life plans made how life turns out 😂 #ClockTower — Manda Bendre 🇮🇳 (@mabend2) April 7, 2025 Close-up shots of the clock tower showed a lack of workmanship with no intricate design. It was rough around the edges and the incomplete concrete frame was painted in white. Others dug up photos of what the clock tower was destined to look like in its final form, which was far from reality.

‘Guilt came faster…': Zomato delivery rider's call leaves Delhi man humbled, LinkedIn post goes viral

What began as a casual late-night craving became a moment of reckoning for Delhi-based Ishan Bhatt, and it's now touching hearts across the Internet. In a now-viral LinkedIn post, Bhatt recounted how a simple order on Zomato quickly transformed his evening. 'Yesterday I ordered ice cream from Zomato,' he wrote. About 15 minutes later, he got a call from the delivery partner: 'Sir, aap neeche aa sakte ho?' (Sir, can you please come downstairs?) Bundled in a blanket, Bhatt casually replied: 'Kyun bhai? Aap aa jaao na upar.' (Why, brother? Come upstairs?) 'Sir, main handicapped hoon.' (Sir, I am a person with a disability.) 'Sudden silence. Guilt came in faster than the delivery,' Bhatt wrote in the post. Tossing aside his blanket 'like the main character in a movie,' he rushed downstairs, humbled by the moment. 'We keep cribbing about late deliveries, melted food, and 'packaging achhi nahi di' – but in the background, companies like Zomato are giving real opportunities to people who actually need them,' he wrote. 'I just found something that made me feel both human and humbled.' Bhatt ended the post on a light-hearted note, sharing a screenshot of his three-ice-cream order: 'And yes, the ice cream was worth it. Next time your delivery partner calls, maybe don't be wrapped in your blanket like some paneer roll.' The post struck a deep chord online. One user responded with warmth and wit: 'From paneer roll to superhero sprint! Love this heartwarming moment and Zomato's efforts. May they keep surprising us (and delivering smiles)! Also now craving paneer rolls and ice cream. Thanks for that!' Another user suggested a solution to avoid such awkward moments in the future: 'Why don't you add a tag or a notification to let the customer know that a differently abled/your super delivery partner is on his way? Just to avoid this awkward situation!' Bhatt's story also opened the floodgates for others to share similar experiences. One user recalled, 'Something very similar happened to me as well. I asked the guy to come to the second floor. The building didn't have a lift. It was 7 in the morning. He told me it would take him a few minutes. When he rang the bell, I saw that he had polio and one of his legs barely worked. Been four years, and I still can't get over the guilt.' Another shared a similar story: 'Had a similar experience once in Gurgaon. I asked the delivery guy to come up to the second floor – there was no lift. He didn't say a word, just came up after quite a while. When I opened the door, I was taken aback – he was really old, like really old. I offered him a chair and some water, then gently asked why he was doing this kind of work. He said it was actually his son's account. His son had met with an accident while rushing deliveries – this was during the whole '10-minute delivery' craze. In his words, 'Duniya ko aag lagi hai.' So now, the father was delivering orders to keep the family going until his son recovered. This is more than three years ago, and I still can't forget his words and expressions.'

Pune Residents Worship Tree Gushing Out "Holy Water". It Turns Out To Be...

In Pune, a bizarre scene recently unfolded as people eagerly rushed to Pimpri's Premlok Park area, where "holy water" was seen flowing out from the trunk of a gulmohar tree. Viral footage shows locals reverently gathering, offering garlands, and putting turmeric and vermilion on the trunk, believing it was exuding holy water. However, the civic body later revealed that the "miracle water" was actually leaking from an underground water pipeline. According to local media reports, the incident took place near the main road outside the Sahara Society on June 6, Friday. The video recorded by onlookers shows people offering garlands and putting turmeric and vermilion on the tree's trunk, believing it's "miracle water" with "healing powers". However, once the incident came to light, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) reportedly launched an investigation, following which they discovered a leaking water pipe. Sharing the video of the incident on X, a user wrote, "Seeing water coming from a tree in the vicinity of Pimpri Chinchwad, citizens started worshipping the tree by offering garlands, flowers, turmeric, and saffron. Later, some well-informed citizens informed the municipal corporation about this and during the inspection, it was revealed that the water pipeline under the tree had burst." Take a look at the video below: पिंपरी चिंचवड येथील परीसरात झाडातून येणाऱ्या पाणी पाहून नागरिकांनी त्या झाडावर हार फुल हळदी कुंकू अर्पण करून पूजा करू लागले. नंतर काही सुजाण नागरिकांनी महापालिका ला याची माहिती दिली आणि तपासणीदरम्यान उघड झाले की झाड खाली पाण्याची पाइपलाइन फुटली होती. #चमत्कार #अंधश्रध्दा — SATYA⛩️ (@thesonawanex) June 8, 2025 The video has gone viral on social media, sparking criticism and debate online. "The height of superstition. India, which was known as the world teacher two thousand years ago; where there were so many philosophers, which are not found anywhere else in the world at one place, today it is sad to see its condition," wrote one user. "How can we progress as a nation if these kind of things still happen in 2025," commented another. "2025 and we wonder why India isn't progressing," said a third user. "If only we chased education, infrastructure, and healthcare with the same speed we chase miracles," wrote one user. Meanwhile, this is not the first time such an incident has come to light. Last year, a similar scene unfolded at Mathura's revered Banke Bihari Mandir, where devotees eagerly queued to collect and drink water dripping from an elephant sculpture, believing it to be 'Charan Amrit' - sacred water from Lord Krishna's feet. However, the water was just a discharge from an air conditioning unit, a temple priest confirmed. But undeterred by the clarification, numerous devotees continued collecting, drinking, and splashing the water. The video sparked a lively debate about the devotees' actions.
