Karnataka rains: Fallen tree affects train traffic from Mangaluru Central towards Kerala for over six hours
A huge tree that fell on the Mangaluru Central-Shoranur line between Central and Netravathi Cabin near Marnamikatte in Mangaluru city affected train traffic in the region for over five hours on Friday (May 30, 2025) early morning.
The line was restored by around 10.30 a.m. following which train operations towards Kerala resumed albeit with a huge backlog. While heavy rains inundated the circulating area and adjoining places at Mangaluru Central early in the morning, the tree that fell on the track damaging the Railway Overhead Equipment (OHE) and bringing down a few electricity poles, disrupted the traffic soon after.
Southern Railway's Palakkad Division immediately deployed railwaymen to remove the fallen tree and restore the OHE. Two OHE repair vans were deployed to restore the railway electrification lines.
The Mangaluru Central-Mangaluru Junction line (single line), however, was not impacted by the tree fall. As such, the Railways diverted a few Kerala-bound trains from Mangaluru Central via Mangaluru Junction, including the Mangaluru Central-Kanniyakumari Parasuram Express, the Mangaluru Central-Thiruvananthapuram Vande Bharat Express, the Mangaluru Central-Thiruvananthapuram Ernad Express and others. The KSR Bengaluru-Kannur overnight express and the SMVT Bengaluru-Murdeshwar overnight express skipped Mangaluru Central and moved directly towards Kannur and Murdeshwar respectively from Mangaluru Junction.
Several trains from Kerala to Mangaluru too were running late following incidents of tree fall in Thiruvananthapuram Division. Consequently, the Railways has been rescheduling many trains.

Delhi-bound traffic on Noida Expressway diverted for 3 days
Delhi-bound traffic on Noida-Greater Noida Expressway will be affected till Monday morning as the Noida Traffic Police have implemented restrictions near the Bird Feeding Point near Dalit Prerna Sthal on the carriageway towards the national capital. The restrictions are in place from 9pm on Friday till 4am on Monday for ongoing repairs on an 800mm underground water pipe. The police have advised commuters travelling from Pari Chowk to Mayur Vihar, Akshardham, and Chilla Border via the Noida Expressway to take the Dadri–Surajpur–Chhalera (DSC) Road and the Botanical Garden route to avoid inconvenience. Delhi-bound traffic will also be diverted via Kalindi Kunj and Sarita Vihar. Additionally, traffic coming from Kalindi Kunj towards Chilla Border and the DND Flyway will be redirected through Noida Sector 37 and the Botanical Garden route. The DSC Road, which connects various metro stations such as Botanical Garden, Sector 18, Sector 16, and Sector 15, as well as shopping hubs such as Atta Market, is also expected to face congestion due to the increased traffic load. During this period, emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire tenders will be allowed passage. Traffic police have also issued a helpline number — 9971009001. 'The pipe lies nearly 10 metres from the central verge. To carry out the repair work, a section of the main carriageway — about five metres wide and 30 metres long — will be closed from Friday night until Monday morning,' said Lakhan Singh Yadav, deputy commissioner of police (traffic). 'The repair work is both important and urgent. If the pipeline is not repaired, it could even damage the expressway. The chair car tickets for Kandari Express, which leaves Howrah in the afternoon and reaches Digha in the evening, are waitlisted at 15 and 19 on June 26 and 27. Railway officials advise passengers to keep checking for tickets as cancellations might open up seats. "We're monitoring the situation closely and will take necessary steps to accommodate the rush," said a senior Railways official. "I've been trying to book tickets on Tamralipta Express for three days now. Everything seems full," said Shankha Banerjee, a Bhowanipore resident who plans to attend the Rath Yatra at the new temple with his family. "We might have to drive down now, though we are worried about parking and traffic arrangements." For many, this is a unique opportunity.
