Ruben Amorim confident Bruno Fernandes will stay at Manchester United
Ruben Amorim believes Bruno Fernandes will stay at Manchester United this summer amid suggestions the player could be set for a lucrative switch to the Saudi Pro League.
Al-Hilal are said to have made an approach for the United captain, bidding in the region of £100m and offering to make Fernandes one of the world's highest-paid players in the process. United's stance remains that Fernandes is not for sale and Amorim doubled down on that position after watching his team beat Hong Kong 3-1 in a post-season friendly on Friday. He views his countryman as vital to the club's future. The 30-year-old was named United's player of the season for a record-equalling fourth time. He is contracted to the club until June 2027.

Asked if the win over Hong Kong might prove to be Fernandes' final appearance for United, Amorim said: 'I don't think so. I don't know for sure, nobody knows, but I don't think so. I think he's seeing us taking some actions to change things and that's all he asks.

'I think he wants to stay. He is saying no to a lot of things, but that shows he wants to win. He's really young, he's really good, he needs to be in the best league in the world.'
Amorim denied United would be forced to cash in on Fernandes in order to generate transfer funds. The club's failure to qualify for the Champions League after a catastrophic campaign means finances will be tight this summer, with United needing to sell several players before they can buy. 'We can find another way to earn money,' Amorim said. Alejandro Garnacho, who started alongside Fernandes in Hong Kong, could well be sold, while Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho – all of whom spent time away from Old Trafford on loan this season – are for sale.

After losing 1-0 to Asean All-Stars in their first post-season friendly in Malaysia, United again fell behind in Hong Kong. But after Juninho's 19th minute opener for the hosts, young striker Chido Obi scored twice after replacing Rasmus Højlund for the second half.
Obi's first was a smart left-footed finish after he turned under pressure in the box following Manuel Ugarte's tackle. The 17-year-old then glanced Mason Mount's cross into the net to snatch the lead eight minutes from time. Fellow former Arsenal youngster Ayden Heaven completed the victory in added time when he met Amad Diallo's ball with a powerful header. The goals were Obi and Heaven's first senior strikes for United, albeit not in a competitive fixture.
United are not in action until 19 July when they take on Leeds in Stockholm, before a pre-season tour of the USA where they will play West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton. Fernandes is expected to feature for Portugal in the Nations League semi-final against Germany on 4 June. The final and third-place playoff are set for 8 June.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah proved right as PSG destroys Inter Milan
Paris Saint-Germain is the champion of Europe for the first time after thrashing Inter Milan in the Champions League final. Ever since Liverpool exited the competition, the French giant had been tipped by many as the favorite to lift the trophy, and that is exactly what it has done after putting Inter to the sword in Munich. Advertisement Achraf Hakimi opened the scoring before Desire Doue netted on either side of half-time, while ex-Liverpool transfer target Khvicha Kvartskhelia and Senny Mayulu also got on the scoresheet in the second half. Inter may have scored seven goals over two legs in the semi-final against Barcelona, but Simone Inzaghi's side was no match for Luis Enrique's exciting crop of youngsters. Prior to knocking Aston Villa and Arsenal out in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively, PSG eliminated Liverpool in the last 16 by winning a penalty shoot-out at Anfield after a 1-1 aggregate draw. Liverpool star Mohamed Salah recently recalled that defeat, and said how he believed at the time that Liverpool had been beaten by the best team in Europe. "I have to be honest. PSG had a very good first leg. We were so lucky," Salah told L'Equipe. "Alisson had the best game of his career at Liverpool. They were very unlucky. We had a very good second leg, they had a very good first leg. And you lose on penalties... sometimes it's your day. Sometimes it's mine. It was their day. "No one would say, 'They deserved it 100 per cent!' No. The first leg, yes. The second, no. It's the same for us. The second leg, yes. The first, no. It was their day and I shook the players' hands afterward, I said to them: 'Congratulations, go win it!' and that was it. They had a rise in form and we reached the same point." PSG's thumping victory in the final proved Salah knew what he was talking about when he anointed Enrique's side the best in Europe.

Simone Inzaghi: ‘Not the right time' to talk about Inter future after Champions League final defeat
Simone Inzaghi insists it's 'not the right time to talk about the future' after his Inter side lost the Champions League final to Paris Saint-Germain. Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal have presented the 49-year-old Italian with a lucrative offer in an attempt to lure him away after four years in charge at San Siro. Advertisement Ahead of the final, Inzaghi said he was 'happy' at the club amid uncertainty over his future and asked again on Saturday night he refused to divulge what his next step may or may not be. 'It's not the right time to talk about the future,' he said after the 5-0 defeat in Munich. 'We played 59 games this season, we got to this final, so it's awkward to talk about my future now. 'These players deserve credit, they gave it their best shot. We've suffered a lot with injuries. I wouldn't change these players for anyone else.' Inzaghi was appointed by Inter in the summer of 2021 following his five-year stint at Serie A rivals Lazio and he has led them to six domestic trophies including the 2023-24 Serie A title. This season has seen them finish trophyless, however, missing out on the Serie A title by one point to Napoli — after Inzaghi's side conceded a last-minute equaliser against Lazio on the penultimate league matchday — while they were eliminated from both the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana by city rivals Milan. Saturday's loss to PSG was the second time in three years that Inter have fallen at the final hurdle in Europe's top club competition, having lost 1-0 to Manchester City in 2023. 'We know defeats can make you stronger,' he added. 'Tonight's defeat hurts a lot, like the loss we suffered in Istanbul. They were two very different matches. 'Tonight's we were more tired than PSG. We weren't fresh on the second ball. We contested our league until last Friday, they won it with two months to spare. 'They have great quality, a great team. Technically they are stronger than us, we knew that, so we had to be more clever. But we weren't organised, and we deserved to lose. That's the bottom line.' ()
