Fans React to Newly Surfaced '90s Dating Show Footage of Big TV Star: 'I Bet He Tried Out for 'Real World'' originally appeared on Parade.
Jon Hamm wasn't an overnight success.
The Your Friends & Neighbors star, 54, paid his dues with small parts until he got his big break on the hit AMC drama Mad Men. Newly surfaced video from the '90s shows one of Hamm's earlier 'roles'—this time as a contestant on a USA Network dating game show called The Big Date, hosted by Mark L. Walberg. The resurfaced footage shows a much younger, less-Hollywood-heartthrob Hamm talking about his ideal date. The aspiring actor was rejected twice on the show, but the footage lives on in infamy.Fans had strong reactions to Hamm's hair and his on-screen persona in the dating show footage.
One commenter wrote on the video shared to Instagram, 'That hair!' in reference to Hamm's '90s curtain cut and middle part, while another shared, 'He definitely got better looking with age.'Other fans weren't quite taken with Hamm's description of a perfect first date when he said, 'Well, start off with some fabulous food, some fabulous conversation.' When prompted to share what else would be fabulous about the date, Hamm offered, 'a fabulous foot massage for an evening of total fabulosity.'
In response, one fan quipped, 'We'd go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that.'
Some fans found Jon Hamm's dating show footage to channel full 1990s vibes with one writing, "I bet he tried out for Real World 😂"
While some fans were charmed by Hamm's early on-camera efforts, other commenters made note of a hazing incident the actor was reportedly involved in during his time at the University of Texas.

Emmy Voters: Don't Forget About Zahn McClarnon and ‘Dark Winds': He's Your Next Leading Man
The third season of 'Dark Winds' might be one of its best yet. In the latest season, Zahn McClarnon's Joe Leaphorn is tracking down a missing Native teenager who goes missing after his friend is murdered. At home, his wife Emma (Deanna Allison) is struggling to forgive him and decides to leave. Amid it all, Leaphorn is facing generational trauma and confronting his past. More from Variety Short and Sweet: From 'Adolescence' to 'Sirens,' This Season's Best New Shows Are Barely Longer Than a Movie Limited Series Writers on the Impact of Casting, Writing Emotional Journeys, and Finding a Tonal Balance David E. Kelley on Shaping 'Presumed Innocent' With Ruth Negga's Barbara as the Killer - Then Changing the Ending After Filming Began Although the show has largely gone unrecognized by Emmy voters, there's still time to consider the AMC thriller and McClarnon's performance when it comes to drama categories. Take episode 6, which revolves around a ketamine fever dream that sees Joe transported back in time, threading together three narrative threads: the traditional Navajo story of the Hero Twins facing the Ye'iitsoh; Joe's present-day confrontation with a monster that's been haunting him throughout Season 3; and the revelation of a deeply personal childhood trauma. McClarnon says it was satisfying to explore that aspect of the character. 'I find it cathartic to tap into some of that stuff that I went through as a kid, which was very similar. I enjoy that process as an actor and that's why I wanted to be an actor,' he said at an FYC panel and a later interview. The actor, who is Hunkpapa Lakota, knew how authenticity was important to the creative team and showrunners. And for certain scenes, he had to learn Diné, the Navajo language. Cultural consultants on the show helped ensure the pronunciation was correct, but it wasn't easy. McClarnon says it would often take a few weeks 'to learn a couple of lines.' Though McClarnon is always reserved, his performance in this season particularly is also filled with emotion. In the season finale, his eyes tell the story as he sits there wordless with his world falling apart, and he learns of Emma's feelings towards him. McClarnon has led 'Dark Winds' for three seasons. In season four, he'll get to direct. Yet, he doesn't consider himself a leading man. 'I don't,' he replies when asked about it. 'I know that I can be number one on a TV show. I can be an EP and direct at the same time. I have that skill,' he says. McClarnon, who starred in the 2005 TNT series, 'Into the West' and later in 2009's 'Not Forgotten' is overdue for lead awards attention. His performance as Joe Leaphorn has proven he can carry a series, with the complexity to peel back the layers. Though he starred in 'Reservation Dogs,' which had comedic elements, he's not sure about taking on a rom-com. He laughs, 'I don't know if I can be a romantic comedy leading man.' But McClarnon won't rule it out. 'We'll see what happens,' he says. Television Academy voters, it's your move to spotlight McClarnon and show him he's got everything it takes to lead the way. Savannah Guthrie Wonders ‘What Are Veneers' When Asked Whether She Has a Set of Her Own
Even the most famous journalists can get stumped with a surprise question. While celebrating the launch of 's Joy 101 app in New York City last month, faced an unexpected inquiry from a Parade reporter curious to know if the Today show coanchor has veneers. "What is that, like, braces?" Guthrie, 53, replied. 'I did Invisalign. What are veneers?' Veneers are described as coverings that fit over the front surfaces of your teeth. They can help make one's teeth look bigger, straighter, brighter or remove any space in between teeth. Savannah Guthrie Talks 'Today' Legacy, Motherhood and Hoda Kotb's Exit When the reporter suggested that Guthrie would know if she had them, the NBC journalist agreed and clarified that she didn't have a set of her own. 'OK, I guess no. No, I don't have veneers,' she joked. 'I probably need them. Whatever they are. I gotta go, getting veneers.' These days, Guthrie has other priorities in her life besides those of the dental variety, including bringing the news to millions of Americans via Today and striving to be a good mom to daughter Vale, 10, and son Charley, 8. 'I try really hard to be not just a calm mom, but a joyful mom and a fun mom,' she exclusively told Us Weekly in May at Kotb's launch party. 'But I'm also a real mom, so that means at about 8 on a Sunday night, I'm like, 'Let's go.'' If Guthrie comes close to reaching a breaking point while parenting, she tries to use it as a reminder for her kids that everyone has different emotions at different times. 'They need to see that we're human too,' she explained of moms. 'I don't think that we're supposed to present to them a stoic figure that's not real life. I don't think that's sending them the lesson. I think they need to know that mom and dad, we're human too. We're doing our best, but let's cooperate and get along. I try to strike that balance.' Savannah Guthrie Woke Up Missing a Tooth After a 'Today' Christmas Party One thing that made Guthrie smile recently was having the opportunity to reunite with her friend in the morning. Last month, Kotb, 60, returned to the Today show to hang out with her TV family and give fans an update on her post-morning show life. 'She's our family. This is home for her,' Guthrie gushed to Us. 'It always will be home for her. It was just wonderful to have her there. But it's just exciting for our friends on the plaza to get to see her and everybody wants to know, how are you doing? All the things I've asked her over the last few months. We talk. We've had breakfast. We call. … Our viewers wanted to know that too.'

Country Star Allegedly Kills Woman In Car Accident
Country Star Allegedly Kills Woman In Car Accident originally appeared on Parade. Country singer Conner Smith was involved in a fatal car accident in Nashville over the weekend, allegedly striking and killing a woman walking in a crosswalk. According to a release shared by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Smith, 24, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on Sunday, June 8 when he hit Dorothy Dobbins, 77, as she crossed the road inside a marked crosswalk. Dobbins was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she later died. A source says that the incident was an accident, and that Smith was not under the influence or distracted by his phone. 'The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian,' the release said. 'He showed no signs of impairment.' The investigation is ongoing and, at this time, there are no charges against Smith, according to police. Sources on the scene claim law enforcement released Smith right away as there were no signs of impairment. In a statement to People Magazine, Smith's attorney confirmed the country singer was 'involved in a car accident that tragically claimed a life.' 'His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins' family during this incredibly difficult time,' the statement said. 'Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.' The accident took place on the last day of the annual CMA Fest, a four-day festival in Nashville that brings country music's biggest stars together for special concerts, collaborations and events. During the fest on Sunday, Smith performed with close friend Dylan Marlowe. The day before, he stopped by Lainey Wilson's Bell Bottoms Up in Nashville to perform at Big Machine Label Group's CMA Fest event. Smith is signed to Big Machine Records' Valory label, and released his debut album Smoky Mountains last year. He's opened for Luke Bryan on tour, and was nominated for New Male Artist of the Year at the 2024 ACM Awards.
