Florida baseball's first-year right-hander earns third SEC Freshman of the Week award
Florida baseball's first-year right-handed starting pitcher Aidan King was named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference announced on Monday afternoon. It is the third such honor for the young hurler out of Jacksonville, Florida.
King earned a decisive victory over the then-top-ranked Texas Longhorns on Sunday afternoon thanks to seven shutout, two-hit innings. From the opening pitch to his final salvo the true freshman dominated, striking out a career-high nine batters against just a trio of walks, while setting personal bests in innings and pitches (110).
The victory helped clinch the Gators' penultimate series of the 2025 regular-season campaign and gave the 'Horns their first home series defeat this spring.
With just one series left on the regular-season schedule, King has amassed a 5-2 record thanks to a 2.90 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 64-to-19 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 59 innings pitched. The young gun has been peaking at the right time too, allowing just a single earned run in 14 1/3 innings over his last three starts, giving the Gator a 0.63 ERA through that stretch.

Earlier this spring, the Oregon Ducks received great news on the recruiting trail, landing a surprise commitment from five-star edge rusher Richard Wesley. The 247Sports composite lists the 6-foot-5, 250-pound edge as the No. 14 player overall and the No. 2 player at his position in the 2026 class. While his commitment added a needed boost to the Ducks' recruiting class in 2026, it doesn't appear his pledge ended the process. Reports emerged in the days following Wesley's commitment that name, image and likeness licensing issues still needed to be ironed out, and the commitment came as a surprise to even the player's parents.
