Auburn center Connor Lew named to Remington Trophy Watch List
Auburn standout center Connor Lew received a prestigious recognition earlier this week. For the second season in a row, the junior was named to the Remington Trophy Watch List after a fantastic sophomore campaign. The award is given to the nation's best center. Lew has been the glue of Hugh Freeze's offensive line for nearly two full years, as the Kennesaw, Georgia native took over the staring center gig mid-way through his freshman season and has ran with it ever since. After claiming the SEC Freshman of the Week award against Mississippi State, the center finished his inaugural year on the Plains with spot on the SEC All-Freshman, 24/7 Sports True Freshman All-America, and PFF freshman All-America teams. The Tigers' most consistent lineman followed up his fantastic freshmen year with an equally sensational sophomore season. While Auburn's quarterback situation was fluid, the man giving the signal caller the football never changed, as Lew started every game for the Tigers, PFF Team of the Week honors against Georgia and the honor of being a Game Day Captain against Vanderbilt. With the hope for improved stability at the quarterback position after the commitment of Jackson Arnold and more playmakers across the Tigers offense, Lew has the best chance of his young career to stick out on a national stage. If he is able to continue his great play, it's very possible the junior could become the first Auburn center to win the Remington Trophy since Reese Dismukes in 2014. 'I think Texas A&M makes the playoff': SEC football analyst predicts Aggie CFP bid
While many media members at the Southeastern Conference's media days predicted Texas A&M to finish in the middle of the pack in league play this season, one college football analyst made a bold prediction for the Aggies to reach this year's College Football Playoff. Rusty Mansell, co-owner and publisher of DawgsHQ, joined Michael Bratton (SEC Mike) on "That SEC Podcast" to talk SEC football following a packed week in Atlanta, Georgia. With the league's annual preseason meetings concluding and fall camp set to kick off shortly, SEC Mike asked Mansell to provide the boldest take heading into the 2025 campaign. Mansell's response? He believes that the Aggies are primed for a CFP bid this season, which would mark the program's first playoff appearance if those hopes come to fruition. Here is the full clip from "That SEC Podcast" where Mansell and SEC Mike discussed Texas A&M's potential heading into the second year under head coach Mike Elko: Whether the Aggies will reach the CFP will be determined by how the program handles one of the toughest schedules in the country. Ranked as the No. 9 slate by ESPN metrics, Texas A&M will have road tests against Notre Dame, LSU and Texas, all of which will have massive postseason implications. Having a talented gunslinger at the helm will help the Aggies stay on course, however. Marcel Reed enters his sophomore year in College Station after throwing for 1,864 yards and 15 touchdowns in 11 games played last season. The two-time SEC Freshman of the Week honoree (Sep. 16 and Oct. 28) also recorded 547 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. With experience under his belt and targets like former ACC Freshman Offensive Player of the Year KC Concepcion surrounding him, Reed has all the pieces to complete the puzzle and lead the Aggies to the CFP in 2025. While the Texas A&M secondary has been a weak spot of the defensive unit for a long time, that could soon change as well with the return of Will Lee III and the addition of transfer standouts Julian Humphrey (Georgia) and Jordan Shaw (Washington), rounding out the Aggie secondary this season. Can the Aggies defy the odds and reach the 2025-2026 CFP? The Maroon and White faithful will have to wait just 41 more days before those answers begin to unfold on the gridiron at Kyle Field. Former Georgia basketball star works out for Hawks ahead of NBA draft
Georgia Bulldogs freshman forward Asa Newell recently just finished working out for the Atlanta Hawks. Atlanta holds the 13th pick in the 2025 NBA draft. Newell, an SEC All-Freshman Team selection, has been generating significant NBA draft interest. He has already worked out for the Portland Trail Blazers (holding the No. 11 pick) and the Chicago Bulls (No. 12 pick). On Monday, he completed a workout for a third lottery-bound franchise. Advertisement His outstanding freshman performance, which earned him conference-wide attention, saw him average 15.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game while shooting 54.3% from the field. Newell is the 15th player in program history to receive the SEC All-Freshman distinction, and notably, he was the only Bulldog recognized by the conference, as no other Georgia players were selected for any of the All-Conference or All-Defensive teams. In his sole season in Athens, Newell started all 33 games for the Bulldogs. He reached double-digit scoring in 30 of those contests, including six games with 20 points or more. He led the team in scoring 20 times and in rebounding 16 times, and tied Anthony Edwards' program record with four SEC Freshman of the Week honors. Newell helped Georgia return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015. According to Lauren Williams of the AJC, the Hawks also worked out Alabama's Cliff Omoruyi, Florida's Will Richard and Michigan State's Jase Richardson. Arkansas transfer Boogie Fland commits to Florida basketball
Arkansas transfer Boogie Fland has committed to Florida basketball, according to a report by ESPN's Shams Charania. Fland, a 6-foot-2-inch guard out of the Bronx, New York, is on an official visit with the Gators after recently withdrawing from the 2025 NBA draft and entering the transfer portal. Advertisement Fland sat out over two months due to a thumb injury after getting injured during a game against Florida on Jan. 11. He was cleared to return to the NCAA Tournament but the injury was a shot to his draft stock. During his freshman year with the Razorbacks last season under head coach John Calipari, Fland averaged 13.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.5 steals in 21 games. Fland was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Dec. 16 as he led his team in both scoring and assists in wins against Michigan and UCA. In high school, Fland was ranked the No. 1 point guard in the state of New York by multiple outlets. In 2024, he was a McDonald's All-American and voted Mr. New York Basketball by BCANY (Basketball Coaches Association of New York). Advertisement It is evident that Florida basketball head coach Todd Golden and his staff have been working relentlessly to reshape their backcourt. Departures from Walter Clayton Jr., Will Richard and Alijah Martin have left a hole that needs to be filled. The Gators have been able to reel in the guards this offseason, snagging Princeton transfer guard Xaivian Lee and Ohio transfer AJ Brown. But adding a player like Fland is the icing on the cake.
