Bengal's tea to be covered by Centre's weather-based insurance
Kolkata: Centre has introduced weather-based insurance for some plantation crops, including tea. Tea in Bengal, Assam and Kerala is under the scheme.
In a circular issued on June 10, Union ministry of agriculture and farmers welfare said: "DA&FW, in collaboration with state govts, commodity boards under the aegis of the department of commerce, as well as the coconut development board and other stakeholders, undertook proactive steps to define scientific term sheets for some plantation crops to facilitate extending accessible, affordable crop insurance coverage to plantation farmers through the Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS).

The circular asked states to expedite tender processes — for the participation of private players — by June 20 to include different plantation crops under RWBCIS with effect from this kharif season.
Bijoy Gopal Chakraborty, president of CISTA, the representative body of the small tea growers, said that this was the first time a weather-based crop insurance was introduced for plantation crops. "It is a long-awaited and welcome move. We have been asking for this for some years," he added.

CRDA clears 1,052 cr plan for Amaravati govt infra
1 2 3 Vijayawada: The 49th meeting of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) approved the proposal to call tenders for essential infrastructure in the Amaravati govt complex. The CRDA authority meeting, chaired by chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, also approved the proposal to connect the seed access road to National Highway 16. The govt complex infrastructure works will be undertaken with Rs 1,052 crore. The infrastructure works include the development of roads, drains, water supply, power, and ICT cables. Naidu suggested connecting the E-5 road directly to the national highway instead of the earlier design. The cost of these works is estimated to be about Rs 682 crore, and tenders will be called soon, said the minister for municipal administration and urban development. The green and blue concept was also discussed in the CRDA meeting. As 30% of the total area of Amaravati is allocated for green and blue, as against 10% in Indian standards, the chief minister is very particular on the subject, said Narayana. India, EU aim to finalise FTA by end of this year, says Jaishankar
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Friday that India and EU have set the goal of trying to complete the Free Trade Agreement by end this year and noted that the negotiators and the stakeholders are reacting to a global environment where the importance of doing this FTA has become much more. Jaishankar, who is in France as part of his three-nation visit, said India also seeks to conclude a defence and security partnership with the European Union. "We are putting so much focus on Europe because we can see a quantum jump into multipolarity. There's a realisation in Europe that a lot of its problems and solutions will have to be analysed and thought through by Europe itself. Today's Europe is more self-aware, self-reliant and strategically autonomous, and will want to look for partners who can work with Europe in that respect... That gives an additional impetus to India-Europe relations, which were evolutionary, but I predict a very sharp acceleration in that," he said "In Brussels, we made strong progress in our Free Trade Agreement negotiations. We seek to conclude a defence and security partnership with the European Union. We are looking at a space agreement. We have individual agreements with the states of Europe on talent mobility. We are now trying to see if we can get across an understanding across the entire Union... There is a lot of discussion about connectivity because if you're going to do more business and we're all trying to de-risk and stabilise the global economy, connectivity is very much part of that conversation," he added. He spoke about the progress in FTA negotiations. "We have set the goal of trying to complete it by this year. I'm told that half the chapters are done, and for the remaining half, considerable progress has been made. Our trade ministers have met 3 times in the last 6 weeks. Garuda Aerospace sets up agri-drones indigenisation facility near Chennai
Spread across 35,000 sq ft at Thalambur, near the city, the state-of-the-art facility was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan on Thursday. The facility, a first-of-its-kind initiative, augments Garuda Aerospace's existing manufacturing unit located near Chennai and a major leap in advancing drone manufacturing. The products that would be produced at the facility include 7 subsystems (of Unmanned Aerial Systems), 33 parts among others. The production would be covered under the Centre's ambitious 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' campaign. It would advance drone innovation, research and skill development. A Train-the-Trainer programme aimed at enhancing skills on operating the drones was also unveiled on the occasion. This reinforces our commitment to self-reliance,' Garuda Aerospace founder and CEO Agnishwar Jayaprakash said in a release here.
