March 18 - Javier Rivas hit a walk-off solo home run to complete a three-run uprising and hand the Pittsburgh Pirates a 3-2 win over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies in spring-training action on Tuesday in Bradenton, Fla.
Scoreless through eight, the Pirates got on the board with a pair of RBI sacrifice flies by Nick Yorke and Bryce Johnson before Phillies reliever Josh Hejka (0-1) replaced Devin Sweet and Rivas blasted the game-winner to left center.
Joey Bart and Adam Frazier finished with two hits apiece for Pittsburgh. Wilkin Ramos (1-0) pitched the eighth and ninth innings and fanned two without a hit.
Nick Castellanos drove in the Phillies' runs on a solo shot in the first and an infield single in the sixth. Starter Cristopher Sanchez lasted five innings, with two strikeouts and four hits.
Tigers 6, Twins 5

Thayron Liranzo worked an 11-pitch walk to load the bases in the top of the ninth against Jhoan Duran (0-1) and, after a pitching change, Ben Malgeri pushed across one run with a walk. Brady Allen's grounder was booted to score two runners.
Justyn-Henry Malloy hit a two-run single to get the Tigers' offense going, and reliever Troy Watson (1-0) threw a hitless eighth for the win. Edouard Julien had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs to lead the Twins' offense.
Red Sox 4, Yankees 4
Anthony Volpe hit two RBI singles for New York as it drew with visiting Boston in Tampa, Fla.
Volpe's second single scored an additional runner thanks to a fielding error in center by Trayce Thompson, which made it 4-2 Yankees. Roman Anthony poked a run-scoring single in the seventh and Rob Refsnyder tied the game with a sac fly in the eighth.
Masataka Yoshida hit a two-run homer for the Red Sox while Walker Buehler worked five innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits, fanning four. Max Fried threw 4 1/3 scoreless frames with two hits and struck out three for the Yankees.

Red Sox star's jaw-dropping sister breaks silence on 'surreal' online fame after being spotted watching his debut

Lia Anthony, the jaw-dropping sister of Red Sox upstart Roman Anthony, has broken her silence on her new-found fame. Lia has entered the limelight ever since her brother's Major League Baseball debut on Tuesday, where she sat in the first row of Fenway Park for Boston's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Roman was the No 1 prospect in baseball before his call-up, with much attention being given to him as the next face of one of the most storied franchises in sports. Lia and her family were interviewed on camera during the game, with her looks sparking the attention of the internet. Her following on Instagram has jumped from around 3,000 to over 16,000 in less than 48 hours. 'Wow, I mean it's been surreal,' Lia said to WEEI. 'It's crazy… I've gotten quite a few DMs since that night.' 'I got a couple baseball [DMs]. But it was funny, somebody said something about how they accidentally hit their baseball [in my DMs] and asked me to throw it back.' 'I think [Roman] definitely was shocked. We all were. We all were kind of in disbelief. But, I mean, he's got bigger things to focus on. So, he's just been focusing on his debut and everything. But I think we were all just shocked by it.' Lia was at Tuesday night's game alongside mom Lori, dad Anthony Sr., and brother Tony. It is unclear when after the second-inning interview Lia found out of her new online fame. 'Lord have mercy,' one fan said, while another added: 'What's her @? Asking for a friend...' There was more to Lia's Tuesday night than baseball fans wanting to know more about her. 'Oh my gosh. The people were amazing,' Lia added. 'It was an incredible experience. It was actually, this is my first time in Boston, and I had never been to Fenway… [The Red Sox] brought us to meet David Ortiz. It was just an unreal experience. 'My mom especially was so touched by it, because David Ortiz had shared a couple words with her, talking about how incredible Roman is and how he'll be the face of the franchise. And it's all just so surreal to hear that, especially about your brother, who you've grown up watching and supported his whole life. I mean, the whole thing is just surreal.'

Walker Buehler, Red Sox take series decider vs. Rays

June 12 - Walker Buehler worked a seven-inning quality start and got the support of four solo home runs as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 in the rubber game of a three-game series on Wednesday. Marcelo Mayer homered in each of the first two at-bats, with the 22-year-old rookie becoming the youngest Red Sox player to produce a multi-homer game since Rafael Devers in 2018. Jarren Duran hit a leadoff home run in the first inning and Abraham Toro socked the eventual game-winning shot in the fifth after Tampa Bay erased a 3-1 deficit. Toro and Ceddanne Rafaela joined Mayer with multi-hit games for Boston, which has won back-to-back series. Buehler (5-4) struck out seven while yielding three runs on six hits and one walk. Aroldis Chapman struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth for his 12th save. Yandy Diaz (two-run homer), Brandon Lowe and Jake Mangum all had two hits for Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay right-hander Zack Littell (6-6) allowed all four Boston homers in his six-inning outing. He permitted eight hits, fanned six and didn't issue a walk. After Buehler stranded two baserunners to post a first-inning zero, Duran bashed Littell's first pitch of the game into the right-center-field bullpen give the hosts a quick 1-0 lead. The Rays quickly responded as back-to-back singles by Mangum and Matt Thaiss set the table for a game-tying run in the second. Lowe knocked in Mangum on a fielder's-choice grounder to shortstop. Mayer singlehandedly put the Red Sox back in front and provided insurance with his solo shots. His first homer led off the second inning, landing deep in the right field corner. Mayer went deep again with one out in the fourth, sending another homer to a similar location in right. Two-out offense drew Tampa Bay even in the fifth. After Lowe chopped an infield single on an open left side, Diaz deposited a two-run homer into the first rows of the right field seats. After Littell recorded three straight outs by strikeout in the fourth and fifth, Toro cranked a homer out to straightaway center for a 4-3 edge. Buehler retired seven straight to finish his outing before Justin Wilson and Greg Weissert combined to get out of an eighth-inning jam, preserving the one-run Boston lead. A walk to Junior Caminero and a Mangum single off Weissert loaded the bases, but Thaiss fanned to end the threat. --Field Level Media

Boston Red Sox spark controversy after putting on pre-game drag show for Pride Day

Fenway Park's annual Pride Night has been heavily criticized online in the days since a group of drag queens were welcomed on the field in Boston before the Red Sox hosted the Tampa Bay Rays. 'Gross' and 'disgusting' were just two of the judgements posted on X, where many others joined in the attack. 'Be more like the @ Rangers,' another added, referring to the only Major League Baseball team without a Pride Month celebration. Several commenters questioned the logic behind MLB events aimed at including LBGTQ+ fans, arguing they're not really baseball's target audience. However, a 2021 survey by the Sociology of Sport Journal found that 30 percent of gay men and 40 percent of lesbians were passionate sports fans, while many others followed sports casually. Boston's Pride Day differed from other MLB clubs in that the Red Sox invited fans to arrive early for a drag show on the concourse at Fenway Park. drag queen performs for a crowd of Boston Red Sox on the Fenway Park concourse The public address announcer at MLB's oldest stadium added a message from the team: 'We know that visibility and inclusivity in sports not only affirm the right of everyone to participate and along, but also enrich the spirit of competition and camaraderie. 'When teams, front offices and fans come together to create welcoming environments, everyone can thrive, and we prove that we are all better when we stand together.' Massachusetts does have a relatively large LGBTQ community as a share of its population. A 2018 study by Boston Indicators and The Fenway Institute (no relation to the ballpark) found that five percent of Massachusetts citizens identified as LGBTQ, more than all but one state. That same study found that nearly half of Massachusetts' gay youth had attempted suicide at some point, which is the kind of troubling statistic that's led the Red Sox, MLB and other sports properties to offer Pride Day celebrations. Regardless, Pride Day still ignited a torrent of criticism directed at the Red Sox, who lost to the Rays, 10-8, as top prospect Roman Anthony made his debut. 'Disgusting and degenerate,' wrote one self-described former fan. 'There is a reason I refuse to watch ya'll anymore. I've been a fan for 30+ years. Focus on the game instead of degeneracy and politics, idiots.' Per Getty Images, the Red Sox have been welcoming drag queens to Fenway for Pride Day for at least the last four seasons, but that didn't stop one fan from declaring that the 2025 ceremony was her breaking point. 'Unfollowing you and no longer watching your games,' the woman wrote. 'You just lost a 20+ year fan.' Joining in the on-field ceremony were representatives from the the Boston Legacy Football Club of the NWSL, the Boston Fleet of the PWHL, Boston Common Golf, the NHL's Boston Bruins, and NBA's Boston Celtics. Fans attending Monday's game were given a Red Sox Pride hat with rainbow coloring — an item some fans found appealing. 'Love it!' wrote the X users. 'Hey at RedSox, where can I get one of those hats? They are stunning!'
