Alabama football 2025 season preview, predictions: Parker Brailsford

USA Today2 days ago
As we enter the 2025 college football season, there are likely few offensive lineman nationally better at what they do than Alabama Crimson Tide center Parker Brailsford.
A returning starter along Alabama's offensive line, Brailsford is back for year two in Tuscaloosa this fall, entering the campaign as one of the top centers in all of college football.
One of the players who followed Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer from Washington, Brailsford also returns to Alabama after turning down the NFL draft this past offseason, and as a result, is likely now set for an even better 2025 campaign compared to what was already a strong season a year ago.
Here is everything you need to know about star Alabama center Parker Brailsford entering the 2025 season.
Parker Brailsford player information
Parker Brailsford career stats
Brailsford is certainly not an unfamiliar face to college football, entering his fourth season this fall between his time at both Alabama and Washington. Across his prior three seasons, Brailsford has appeared in a combined 28 games, each of which he has started, receiving multiple honors along the way.
Parker Brailsford 2024 stats
Brailsford's 2024 season was his first at Alabama after transferring from Washington. A year ago, Brailsford started all 13 games for Alabama at center.
Parker Brailsford recruiting ranking
Coming out of high school, Brailsford was considered as the nation's No. 522 overall prospect in the 2022 recruiting class out of Saguaro High School in Arizona, where he was also ranked the state's No. 8 player. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Brailsford, a three-star prospect, was also considered the nation's No. 23 overall interior offensive lineman in the class prior to attending Washington.
Before coming to Alabama, Brailsford was considered by 247Sports as the No. 22 overall prospect in the transfer portal last offseason, as well as the No. 2 interior offensive lineman. Rated as a four-star prospect, Brailsford also committed to Alabama in Jan. 2024.
Parker Brailsford 2025 season outlook
As we enter the fall, Brailsford's role for Alabama in 2025 is a given.
The redshirt junior is cemented as Alabama's starting center entering the season, and barring injury, will remain in that spot throughout the year. Brailsford will help anchor what should be a strong Alabama offensive front, and will likely see multiple accolades this season, one of which could be All-SEC honors.
Overall, expect a phenomenal redshirt junior season for Brailsford in which he is one of, if not, the best center in all of college football.

Suárez hits his 37th homer as Woo and the Mariners beat the White Sox 8-3

SEATTLE (AP) — Eugenio Suárez homered and Bryan Woo pitched seven sparkling innings, helping the Seattle Mariners beat the Chicago White Sox 8-3 on Tuesday night. Suárez hit a tiebreaking two-run shot in the fourth inning for his 37th homer of the season. It was his first homer since he was reacquired by Seattle in a trade with Arizona last week. Josh Naylor and Dominic Canzone also went deep for the Mariners in their fourth win in five games. Jorge Polanco finished with two hits and two RBIs. Woo (9-6) struck out nine in his first win since July 4. The right-hander has pitched at least six innings in his first 22 starts this season, a franchise record. Lenyn Sosa, Luis Robert Jr. and Colson Montgomery homered for Chicago in its second consecutive loss. Davis Martin allowed six runs, five earned, and seven hits in five-plus innings.

New-look Mystics struggle with the Sky — and more moves are possible

CHICAGO — As Sonia Citron won the game-day shootaround competition with her second half-court shot, she was mobbed by her Washington Mystics teammates, including Aaliyah Edwards. A few steps away, Brittney Sykes did a dance at the free throw line, wagging her knees and thrusting out her arms. It was all smiles and good times at Wintrust Arena on Tuesday morning. About 90 minutes later, Sykes was traded to the Seattle Storm. The Mystics' leading scorer and vocal leader was gone. The youngest roster in the WNBA got a taste of the business of basketball, and there is still plenty of time for more change with the trade deadline set for 3 p.m. Thursday. On Tuesday night, the Mystics lost, 78-64, to the Chicago Sky, and questions remained about what their roster will look like when they visit the Minnesota Lynx on Friday. 'I think this is kind of my 'Welcome to the W' moment,' rookie Kiki Iriafen said. '... [Sykes] and Sika [Koné, who was waived] mean so much to our team and, obviously, not having them with us anymore is really tough. So I think we're just adjusting to that. It's hard adjusting on a game day, but I think with this team, we have so much grit and we're going to figure it out." No Mystics player reached double figures until the fourth quarter. Citron finished with 13 points, and Iriafen added 10. Washington's lone lead was 2-0. The Mystics (13-16) have dropped three in a row, matching a season high. Tuesday was the second game of a four-game road trip. 'My mentality stays the same,' Citron said. 'I'm going to keep playing the way I play. Obviously, there will be some adjustments. That's just what it is. Everybody just has to do a little bit more because Slim impacted our team in so many ways. So, I don't just feel that pressure. It's the whole team.' The Sky (8-21) snapped an eight-game losing streak. Elizabeth Williams (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Kamilla Cardoso (16 points, 13 rebounds) led the way. Sky star Angel Reese did not play because of a back injury, but former Mystics standout Ariel Atkins returned from a leg injury to score 15 points. Edwards, who played seven minutes and scored three points, is one of the biggest question marks ahead of the trade deadline; there were reports earlier in the season that the Mystics were fielding offers for the No. 6 draft pick in 2024. Edwards said she hasn't spoken with team management about the possibility. 'To be honest, I'm not even thinking about it,' she said. 'Just locked in with my team. … Especially this week because there's so much uncertainty, for me, it's just being mentally strong, mentally tough. Making sure that I continue to do the things I love, which is just play basketball every day. Blessed with this opportunity and blessed to be putting [on] for D.C. So those are the things I just continue to think about — playing for my teammates. All the outside noise, I don't really worry about until it's something to worry about.' Edwards is in a tricky spot as the last first-round pick by the Mystics' previous regime. The Mystics' roster is deep with post players, and Edwards has lost playing time to Iriafen and center Shakira Austin. Edwards returned from a wrist injury Sunday and played three minutes. She didn't play at all in the first half Tuesday despite the Mystics being down to nine players. Coach Sydney Johnson said the possibility of a trade and the looming trade deadline have not been the reason for Edwards's limited minutes. 'With our frontcourt, Kiki is pretty good, [Austin's] pretty good,' Johnson said. 'We had Stef [Dolson], we had Emily [Engstler], Aaliyah. So just with five post players, I'm trying to allow them to get in a rhythm. Three minutes for Aaliyah is tough. Seven minutes for Aaliyah is tough. ... Just trying my best there. That's just kind of where we are.'

Williams and Cardoso have double-doubles, Sky beat Mystics to snap 8-game skid

Elizabeth Williams had 18 points and 10 rebounds, Kamilla Cardoso added 16 points and 13 boards, and the Chicago Sky beat the Washington Mystics 78-64 on Tuesday night to snap an eight-game losing streak. Chicago (8-21) avoided being swept in the four-game regular-season series. The Sky had lost six straight against the Mystics and five in a row at home in the series. Shakira Austin made a layup to open the scoring but Chicago ripped off a 14-0 run to take the lead for good. Cardoso had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the first half — the 6-foot-7 center's seventh consecutive double-double and ninth this season. Cardoso's layup at the buzzer gave the Sky a 35-28 lead at the end of the second quarter and the Mystics got no closer. Sonia Citron led Washington (13-16) with 13 points and Kiki Iriafen scored 10. The Mystics have lost three in a row and six of eight. Angel Reese (back), who has missed six of the last eight games, and Hailey Van Lith (ankle) did not play for the Sky. Ariel Atkins returned from a seven-game absence due to a leg injury and finished with 15 points and five assists for Chicago. Michaela Onyenwere scored 12 points. The Mystics traded Brittney Sykes, who leads the teams in scoring (15.4 per game), assists (4.4) and steals (1.24), to Seattle earlier Tuesday in exchange for Alysha Clark, Zia Cooke and a 2026 first-round pick. The Sky shot a season-high 54% (34 of 63) from the field, had 22 assists and led by as many as 19 points. Washington was 2 of 15 (13%) from 3-point range and shot 53% (8 of 15) from the free-throw line. The Mystics play the second of four straight road games Friday at Minnesota. Chicago hosts Atlanta on Thursday.
