UAE and Peru strengthen relations as trade reaches $2.5bn
Elmer Schialer Salcedo, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Peru, emphasised that the relations between Peru and the UAE stand as a successful model of joint efforts to expand cooperation across vital sectors.
Salcedo highlighted that bilateral relations began in the 1990s and have since seen significant growth, marked by the opening of Peru's Consulate General in Dubai in 2010.

This milestone has now been followed by another major step—the inauguration of Peru's Embassy in Abu Dhabi. He noted that annual trade between the two nations has now reached approximately $2.5bn.
, which has led to a robust presence of Emirati companies in the Peruvian market.
He stressed that both nations are committed to strengthening and advancing their relations to serve mutual interests.
The minister also underlined the importance of establishing a clear and stable legal framework to create a favourable environment for businessmen and investors from both sides.
He also stressed the need for transparent regulations that ensure stability and equal opportunities for all.
Foreign Minister Salcedo also spoke about the deep cultural ties between the two peoples. He explained that Peruvian culture, influenced by Spanish heritage, has drawn aspects of its worldview from ancient Arab civilisation, as reflected in the presence of numerous Arabic-origin words in the Spanish language.
This cultural commonality, he noted, serves as a bridge for greater intellectual and cultural understanding between Peru and the UAE.
Regarding prospects for cooperation in technology and science, he praised the UAE's prominent global status in knowledge and academic research, particularly in artificial intelligence.
He expressed Peru's keen interest in enhancing cooperation with Emirati institutions to transfer academic excellence to Peru.
He also pointed out Peru's significant potential in renewable energy production, particularly in wind and solar energy. He expressed hope for deeper collaboration with the UAE, which hosts the headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), to leverage Emirati expertise in developing clean energy projects.
Foreign Minister Salcedo extended thanks and appreciation to the UAE leadership, government, and people.
He reiterated Peru's strong commitment to further advancing bilateral relations, fostering greater progress, prosperity, and development across areas of mutual interest.

MoHRE flags 405 cases of ‘Fake Emiratisation'
The Ministry asserted that legal action has been taken against companies involved in 'Fake Emiratisation' schemes, in line with Cabinet Decision No. (43) of 2025 Concerning Administrative Violations and Penalties Related to Initiatives and Programmes of the Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council (ETCC). In a press statement, MoHRE stressed the efficiency of its field inspections and digital monitoring system in detecting negative practices, chief among them being 'Fake Emiratisation' schemes, which are considered a limited negative practice and do not constitute a concerning phenomenon in the UAE labour market. The Ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to dealing firmly and decisively with companies that fail to comply with Emiratisation policies and decisions, highlighting the negative repercussions of 'Fake Emiratisation' schemes on the broader objectives of Emiratisation efforts, which go beyond employing UAE citizens, and aim to develop a productive and sustainable Emirati human capital in the private sector. Emiratisation plans enable Emirati talents to actively participate in the country's development journey, and contribute more significantly to the national economy, especially in priority sectors targeted by semi-annual Emiratisation goals, the MoHRE statement continues, noting that these goals require enhancing UAE citizens' competency within real skilled jobs, where they perform duties that truly advance their capabilities. The Ministry commended the private sector's commitment to Emiratisation policies, decisions, and targets. It affirmed its continued support for compliant companies by including them in the Emiratisation Partners Club, which enables them to receive 80% reductions on Ministry transaction fees, and grants them priority in the government procurement system, in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance. Compliant establishments also benefit from the support provided by the Nafis programme for UAE citizens' wages, along with other benefits and advantages. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation called on UAE citizens and community members to avoid being misled by non-compliant companies and to report cases of 'Fake Emiratisation' they encounter to the call centre at 600590000 or the Labour Claims and Advisory Call Centre at 80084 or through the MoHRE smart application or official website. 'Fake Emiratisation' is defined as the nominal employment of UAE citizens by a company that issues a work permit for them and registers them as employees for purposes other than those for which the permit was issued. These companies typically sign an employment contract with UAE nationals that has all the formal elements but lacks the essential tenets of a real employment relationship, in a bid to circumvent decisions regulating the employment of Emirati citizens in the private sector, including Emiratisation targets, or for the purpose of unlawfully benefiting from government support systems and incentives related to the employment and training of UAE citizens.

This initiative reinforces ENEC's commitment to investing in national talent who will drive the country's nuclear operations to high-achieving Emirati graduates with a bachelor's degree in engineering disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, etc.), the programme offers a pathway to gain comprehensive knowledge, hands-on experience, and operational expertise essential for a career in nuclear energy plant operations and will begin with practical training as Local Operators at the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, gaining in-depth knowledge of operational systems. After three years, successful operators will advance to SRO training — an essential leadership role responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and testing of plant Al Hammadi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ENEC, said: 'The Graduate Plant Operator Program is a strategic investment in our national human capital. UAE gold reserve surges 25.9% in first five months of 2025 to $7.88bn
UAE's gold reserves increased by nearly 25.9 per cent during the first five months of the year. The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE) said the value of gold held by the country increased to AED 28.933 billion (US$7.88 billion) at the end of May, up from AED 22.981 billion (US$6.26 billion) at the end of December 2024. According to the Central Bank's statistical bulletin issued on Thursday, the CBUAE's gold holdings rose by 0.49 per cent month-on-month in May. Demand deposits also grew, exceeding AED 1.166 trillion (US$320 billion) by the end of May, compared to AED 1.109 trillion (US$300 billion) at the end of December 2024. Of this total deposit, AED 892.577 billion (US$243.04 billion) were in local currency and AED 274.329 billion (US$74.7 billion) in foreign currencies. Savings deposits rose to AED 359.57 billion (US$97.91 billion) at the end of May, up from AED 317.48 billion (US$86.45 billion) at the end of last year. This included AED 305.508 billion (US$83.19 billion) in local currency and AED 54.062 billion (US$14.72 billion) in foreign currencies. Time deposits exceeded AED 1 trillion to AED 1.013 trillion (US$275.9 billion) for the first time by the end of May, including AED 614.854 billion (US$167.42 billion) in local currency and the rest in foreign currencies.
