Why Prince Harry's Subtle Gesture of 'Deconflicting' the Royal Family Feud Might Be Working

Yahooa day ago
In the five years since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the royal family, there's been little movement in mending the feud — until now.
The recent peace talks held in mid-July, revealed by The Mail on Sunday, took place between the Sussexes' chief communications officer, Meredith Maines, along with their U.K. PR representative Liam Maguire, and King Charles III's communications secretary, Tobyn Andreae. It was unclear what went on in that meeting at first, but the Daily Mail and People are now reporting that there was some constructive movement toward a family reconciliation.

'Before that meeting between their aides in London, conflicts of interest or clashes of publicity were relished and even perhaps encouraged by the Sussexes,' a Daily Mail source claimed. 'Now, Harry has shifted into a new way of thinking. The tone is now all about 'deconflicting' with his family.'
That olive branch includes 'drawing up a 'grid' of his activities and sharing them with Buckingham Palace, and by extension with Kensington Palace' — it's one way to irk the royal family less. The insider explained further, '…If the Royal Family have full sight of his movements they can at least plan accordingly. It's a significant gesture.'
People explained that the coordination of calendars could also allow for productive time for Harry to meet with his ailing father. The last time he saw him in person was a brief meeting in February 2024 after Charles announced his cancer diagnosis. It's been rumored that Queen Camilla has been Harry's biggest roadblock in mending fences with his father.
'Camilla dislikes Harry and doesn't want Charles to get stressed while he's undergoing treatment, so she tries to limit interaction,' a palace insider told Us Weekly in June 2024. The queen is her husband's 'fiercest ally' and is considered a 'deeply influential' adviser, which may have prolonged the family rift.
Still, Harry has been waving the white flag for some time now and stepped up his efforts in a May interview with the BBC. 'There's no point in continuing to fight anymore,' he noted, 'I don't know how much longer my father has.'
Let's hope the peace talks and calendar gesture help bring the royals back together because enough is enough.Best of SheKnows

Prince Harry denies new book's claim that he punched Prince Andrew

Prince Harry says he never punched his problematic uncle Prince Andrew, nor did the latter make insulting remarks about Meghan Markle, despite claims being made in a new book. Author Andrew Lownie's soon-to-be released biography, 'Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York,' details some of the more intimate elements of Prince Andrew's life, including his marriage and divorce from Sarah Ferguson, his relationships with his family and the immense scrutiny he's faced due to his connection to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Among the many claims made in the book are allegations that Andrew was left with a bloody nose after a 'heated argument' with Harry broke out during a 2013 family gathering. According to a newly published excerpt, 'punches were thrown' when anger escalated over 'something Andrew said behind Harry's back.' The book also accuses Andrew of having expressed skepticism and concern about Harry's marriage to Meghan, allegedly calling her an 'opportunist.' But according to a representative for the 40-year-old prince, 'neither of those things are true.' 'Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have never had a physical fight, nor did Prince Andrew ever make those comments about the Duchess of Sussex to Prince Harry,' a spokesperson said in a statement to People. Harry has long had to deny rumors about himself and his family, especially amid the tensions that grew after he and Meghan left their senior royal duties in 2020 and decamped to her native California. Despite reports that his relationship with the royal family is as strained as ever — thanks in no small part to all the dirty laundry he aired in his 2023 bestselling memoir 'Spare' — Harry insisted to the BBC in May that he 'would love reconciliation.' Prince Andrew, meanwhile, has remained largely ousted from the royals' good graces after his disastrous Epstein-focused interview with the BBC in 2019. He was allegedly cut off financially by his brother King Charles, according to another controversial biography. _____
