Reopening of 32 airports cleared
New Delhi: The Centre on Monday issued the NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) to reopen the 32 airports that had been shut down since May 9 due to the cross-border drone and missile attacks following heightened tensions between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam massacre of 26 tourists by Islamabad-backed terrorists.
The airports that will gradually reopen include Chandigarh, Srinagar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bhuntar, Kishangarh, Patiala, Shimla, Kangra-Gaggal, Bathinda, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Halwara, Pathankot, Jammu, Leh, Mundra, Jamnagar, Hirasar, Porbandar, Keshod, Kandla and Bhuj.
The airports will be opened gradually as, although the ceasefire announced following the Pakistan DGMO's (Director General of Military Operations) request is largely holding, the government does not want to take any chances.
'The night remained largely peaceful across Jammu and Kashmir and other areas along the International Border. No incidents have been reported, marking the first calm night in recent days,' according to a statement issued by the Indian Army on Monday.
The opening of these airports which are close to the Pakistan border reflects a de-escalation in the cross-border hostilities which saw India successfully launching 'Operation Sindoor' to avenge the Pahalgam killings. The reopening of these airports will help to restore normalcy in flight operations which have undergone widespread disruption due to the conflict.
Meanwhile, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said on Monday that operations at the airport are 'currently smooth,' however, due to changing airspace conditions and increased security measures, some flight schedules and security checkpoint processing times may be affected.
The airport management has advised passengers to follow updates and instructions from their airlines, allow extra time for security checks due to heightened measures and adhere to hand baggage and check-in luggage regulations.
Passengers have been advised to check the latest flight status through their airline or the official Delhi Airport website.
Although an agreement for a ceasefire was reached on Saturday, the government is not taking any chances on the security front.

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 10 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday launched border tourism activities at Shipki-La, a high-altitude 3,930-meter motorable mountain pass bordering India and China in the tribal district of Kinnaur. Addressing a public meeting on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, 'We have eased restrictions for the tourists to enjoy the beauty of Shipki-La, and the tourism activities here would strengthen the local economy, along with boosting tourism in the region.' He said that the state government had requested the Ministry of Defence to grant permission for starting tourism activities in the border areas of Lepcha, Shipki-La, Giu and Rani Kanda. After the approval for the same, the border tourism initiative has been launched. The Chief Minister said that the State government would raise the issue of starting Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from Shipki-La with the central government as well. 'I would meet the Prime Minister and present this matter before him. Shipki-La will be the easiest route for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra,' he said. The centuries-old trade route between India and Tibet, Shipki-La, was closed for trade in 2020. There are immense possibilities of trade and cultural exchange through this pass, and the matter of restarting it would also be raised before the Central Government, said the Chief Minister. Sukhu stated that the state government has also urged the Centre to establish the Himachal Scout Battalion, which would have a special quota for the local people of the border areas of the state. The matter of setting up an airport to promote tourism in the border areas would also be pursued before the Union Government. The state government would urge the Centre to abolish the Inner Line Check Post of the military and paramilitary forces, which currently creates permit-related obstacles for tourists. Special attention was being given to promoting seamless travel and improving the experience of tourists, under which cooperation with the Indian Army and Paramilitary Forces would be emphasised. He said that the Wangtu-Atargu-Mud-Bhaba road connecting Lahaul-Spiti district to Kinnaur has been approved by the National Wildlife Board, thus paving the way for its construction. This road would reduce the distance between Shimla and Kaza by approximately 100 km. The Chief Minister said that border roads were not only of strategic importance, but their purpose was to provide benefits to the people by increasing connectivity in remote border regions. He said that he had also recently discussed the action plan to promote tourism in the border areas with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). There has also been a discussion on using various ITBP helipads to promote tourism in remote areas. Discussions have also been held about providing medical facilities to the people through the ITBP health institutions. 'We were proud of the valour of the Army and the Paramilitary Forces. He also inaugurated the Border Forest Park at Shipki-La and visited Indira Gandhi Point,' he said. Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi welcomed the Chief Minister and thanked him for inaugurating border tourism activities. Shipki-La/Kinnaur, June 10 (UNI) In a historic development, the Shipki-La Pass on the Indo-China border in Kinnaur district was opened to tourists, with Revenue and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi addressing a public meeting at the frontier and calling it a milestone moment for the region and the nation. Negi, known for his vocal criticism of the central government, urged the Centre to take concrete steps to resolve the long-standing border dispute with China. 'This issue cannot be left hanging forever. The Government of India must engage in dialogue and resolve the matter. Trade and the Mansarovar Yatra can be used as tools of diplomacy,' he said. 'We can send a message of friendship to China from here.' Calling it a proud moment, he said, 'For the first time since independence, people of the country will get a chance to see the beautiful valleys of Shipki-La. This day will be remembered in the history of Kinnaur.' Negi also recalled how, in earlier times, locals from Kinnaur braved extreme conditions to trade with Tibet and supported the Indian Army even when there were no roads. 'Till 1968, there was no road connectivity. Our elders helped the army by carrying ration and water on foot. Even Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Chief Minister Dr. YS Parmar had to reach this border on horseback and foot.' He appealed to the Army and ITBP not to be overly strict with tourists and demanded that the HRTC bus service, currently running up to Namgya, be extended to Shipki-La. He also sought the construction of a parking facility at the border and installation of an ATM of the Himachal Pradesh State Cooperative Bank for locals and visitors. Negi added that Shipki-La offers the shortest and most convenient route for the Mansarovar Yatra and should be considered as a new corridor for this pilgrimage, similar to those in Pithoragarh and Arunachal Pradesh. With the heatwave sweeping across northern India, hill stations like Kinnaur are witnessing a sharp increase in tourist arrivals.
