Kota Kinabalu: The Local Government and Housing Ministry hopes the Housing and Urban Development Board (LPPB) will maintain its excellence in delivering services as a provider of affordable housing and new urban development in the State. Its Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, said this is important to ensure the government's mandate is effectively translated for the benefit of the people. The Deputy Chief Minister said this when officiating the LPPB's 2025 Meriah Lain Macam Hari Raya Celebration at the Sabah International Convention Centre, here, Tuesday. He noted that this was his first time attending LPPB's Hari Raya celebration since being appointed to lead the Ministry. 'I hope LPPB staff will continue improving service quality and upholding excellence in fulfilling the mandate entrusted by the government. 'The LPPB plays a vital role as a provider of affordable low-cost housing and in developing quality new urban centres,' he said. Dr Joachim also expressed hope that the strategic relationship between the Ministry and LPPB would be further strengthened to ensure the public receives the best services. 'In line with this aspiration, I hope the bilateral cooperation between the Ministry and LPPB will remain strong so that service delivery to the community can be carried out proactively. 'These efforts must also align with the implementation of the Sabah Maju Jaya development plan, which prioritises the people's welfare,' he added. He also reminded LPPB staff to remain cautious and uphold integrity in carrying out their duties in today's fast-paced digital era. 'If I may remind you, in this digital age where information and events spread rapidly, exercise caution in performing your duties. 'Carry out your responsibilities with sincerity and accountability so that every action and decision brings benefit, not the opposite,' he said. Dr Joachim said unity, a family-like spirit and harmony within the organisation are key strengths that must be maintained to ensure the agency remains competitive and sustainable. The Hari Raya celebration was enlivened by various team-based competitions, such as Meriah Raya Kelap-Kelip and Paling Meriah Raya Bercucul. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Hamas says Iran 'paying the price' for supporting Gaza militants
CAIRO: The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas said Iran, its strategic ally, was 'paying the price' for supporting militant groups in Gaza in their decades-long struggle against Israel, after Israel launched large-scale attacks on Friday against Iran. Hamas leaders have repeatedly thanked Iran for its military and financial support to the group in its fight against Israel, including during the ongoing war that erupted in October 2023. 'Iran is today paying the price for its steadfast positions in support of Palestine and its resistance, and its adherence to its independent national decision,' Hamas said in a statement. Tehran has vowed retaliation for Israel's early morning attack on Iranian military and nuclear facilities that killed several top commanders. Israel said it was working to intercept 100 drones that were launched by Iran, but had not reached Israel. Hamas armed wing spokesperson Abu Ubaida said in a post on Telegram later on Friday that the group would stand by Iran in its conflict against Israel. 'The Zionist enemy is completely deluded if it thinks that these treacherous strikes can undermine the fronts of resistance or stabilize the pillars of this fragile entity in the region,' he said. 'On the contrary, it continues to make successive strategic mistakes that will bring it closer to its inevitable demise, God willing.'

Submit financials first, Prime Minister tells police co-op on aid for debts
Published on: Friday, June 13, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jun 13, 2025 By: Minderjeet Kaur, FMT Text Size: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said if the cooperative performs with the new projects, the government will consider allowing it to take on more next year. Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has asked the police cooperative to submit a detailed report on its financial performance before the government considers ways to help it reduce the debts of its subsidiary, Unikop College. Speaking at Koperasi PDRM Bhd's 90th annual general delegates meeting here, Anwar said the government would monitor the cooperative's performance. Advertisement 'I will approve two or three projects for the cooperative. But I want to see a report from the cooperative and the home ministry first. 'We will look at how they can work with the finance ministry to find alternatives and ensure that the cooperative can generate profits,' he added. Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said if the cooperative performed with the new projects, the government would consider allowing it to take on more next year. 'But it must prove its efficiency.' He said the government preferred to provide cost-effective projects instead of handing out financial grants. He added that the government could not write off all of Unikop College's debts, but would assess its performance over the next few years. Bukit Aman management department director Azmi Abu Kassim said that Unikop College's debts dated back to 2018, stemming from poor decisions that led to losses and leakage. However, he did not disclose the amount of the debt. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
