Regina King pens emotional memorial to ex Malcolm-Jamal Warner following his shock death at 54
'Some people leave a lasting imprint, not just for who they were but for the energy they carried,' the Academy Award-winning actress, 54, said in text splashed opposite a pic of Warner riding a motorcycle.
The Los Angeles native told her 2.4 million followers on the platform, 'I'm sending prayers filled with love and understanding to your family and loved ones. Rest easy Malcolm-Jamal Warner.'
King, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2019 for her work in If Beale Street Could Talk, posted a second shot of her former love interest riding a motorcycle with the caption 'Ride in power.'
King, who's also been seen on shows such as The Leftovers, Watchmen and Southland, dated Warner between 2011-2013.
Warner played Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show during its entire 197-episode stretch from 1984 until 1992. During that time, he crossed paths with King, who was appearing on the NBC show 227 opposite Marla Gibbs and Jackée Harry.
King told the outlet Essence in 2011, 'Malcolm and I have a lot in common.
'We've both been child actors and were also blessed to be raised by incredible mothers who instilled good values in us,' King said. 'Things are maturing nicely.'
Officials with the Judicial Investigation Department in Costa Rica said that the actor died Sunday after he drowned while on a Caribbean beach in the country.
Warner had been at Playa Cocles in the Limon province, authorities said, and had been drawn deep into the water by a current.
A first report from the department said that the actor had been 'rescued by people on the beach,' while Red Cross officials said that first responders who located Warner could not detect vital signs; and subsequently transferred him to a nearby morgue.
Warner's career in entertainment spanned more than four decades, as he also had featured roles on sitcoms such as Malcolm & Eddie, Listen Up and Read Between the Lines and drama shows such as The Resident and Jeremiah.
Warner spoke with the AP in 2015 about his drive in maintaining his career after The Cosby Show went off the air nearly a quarter-century ago.
Said the actor, 'I grew up with a maniacal obsession with not wanting to be one of those "Where are they now kids."
Following their 2013 split, King took to X/Twitter to reassure her fans all was well between them
'I feel very blessed to be able to have all of these avenues of expression ... to be where I am now and finally at a place where I can let go of that worry about having a life after Cosby.'
Warner, who received a nomination for an Emmy in 1986 for supporting actor in a comedy, told the AP in 2015 that the sex assault accusations against Cosby had 'tarnished' the legacy of the series, which virtually disappeared from heavy play in syndication amid Cosby's legal issues.
'My biggest concern is when it comes to images of people of color on television and film,' Warner said. 'We've always had The Cosby Show to hold up against that.
'And the fact that we no longer have that, that's the thing that saddens me the most because in a few generations the Huxtables will have been just a fairy tale.'

Bachelor in Paradise axes fan favourite couple after new twist and $500k prize shakes up show
BACHELOR in Paradise has axed a fan favourite couple after a new twist, as a $500k prize shook up the show. Season 10 of Bachelor in Paradise premiered on July 7th and has had viewers hooked. 3 3 And it's certainly kept viewers on their toes, especially in a recent episode where host Jesse Palmer told contestants 'everything is going to change.' He said: 'Paradise is, and always has been, about finding love and creating relationships people can take outside of paradise. 'And this year, we're raising the stakes.' Jesse continued: 'Moving forward, there will be no more new arrivals here in paradise. 'All of your exercises are going to be relationship tests designed to do exactly that — test your relationship. 'Sometimes there will be winners who need to make a pivotal decision, and sometimes there will be losers that won't have any roses to hand out. 'But in the end, the strongest and the most deserving couples are going to be faced with a life changing opportunity: the possibility of leaving paradise with up to half a million dollars.' It comes as a huge twist for the contestants, who are trying to find deeper connections in Costa Rica. Now, they'll be faced with this new set of rules, but also the chance to bag a hefty cash prize. Bachelor in Paradise producers make big change ahead of new season to avoid 'safety scare' with contestants Jesse then left after dropping the bombshell, but hinted that more would be revealed in due course. Some of the stars of the show then expressed concerns over the impact the money would have on people's intentions. 'There's money involved. More tension, higher stakes. I think it could corrupt some of the relationships. I'm excited to see the phony ones start ripping apart at the seams,' said Allyshia Gupta. And Golden contestant Gary added: 'I'm here for love, but it's now a game, and when money is involved, people do stupid things. People do things just for the money.' The next day, the couples played an intense game where the winning couple would get to go on a date, and the winning woman would be given the power to choose who goes home at that week's rose ceremony. Bailey Brown and Jeremy Simon ended up being victorious, and in the bottom three were Leslie Fhima and Gary; Faith Martin and Kim Buike; and Brian Autz and Parisa Shifteh. Then, in a shock move, Bailey ended up sending home Lesie and Gary. She said: 'It's harder when you have to make a decision on where people are with their connections and who deserves to have more time in paradise. ''I'm gonna have to end somebody's love story here, and you just don't enjoy that.' Bailey continued: 'Leslie, I love you so much. You've been so important to my journey here at paradise. I'm sorry that I can't offer you this rose. I really hope that you and Gary find each other after this. I'm so sorry.' The dumped BIP stars revealed plans to continue their connection back at home. Leslie said: 'Even though I'm sad and I wish we could have stayed, I think that we show the young people that when you get older, you don't have to stop having fun or tame it down.' And Gary added: 'It breaks my heart, because I know Leslie was so genuine in wanting to find love, as was I. Her and I will continue to move forward with our journey, just in a different way.'
