BCCI takes action against Rajat Patidar and Pat Cummins, slaps hefty fine after RCB and SRH breach IPL code of conduct
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Pat Cummins have been fined after both sides were found guilty of breaching Indian Premier League's (IPL) Code of Conduct in Match No.61 at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Patidar played the fixture against SunRisers Hyderabad as an impact sub and in his place, Jitesh Sharma led the side. However, the fine has been levied on Patidar as he is the full-time captain for RCB this season.
Patidar has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate. Considering this was his team's second offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Patidar has been fined INR 24 lakhs.
The rest of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, have each been individually fined either INR 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.
On the other hand, SRH captain Pat Cummins has also been fined. His team was also found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate. The Australia Test and ODI captain has been fined INR 12 lakh.
'As it was his team's first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Cummins was fined INR 12 Lakh,' an official BCCI media release stated.
RCB's chances of making the top two received a major dent on Friday evening as the side lost the match against SunRisers Hyderabad by 42 runs. RCB, who were being led by Jitesh Sharma, failed to chase 232 despite getting off to a good start.
Virat Kohli and Phil Salt scored 80 runs for the opening wicket. However, SRH won the contest quite comprehensively after losing the last seven wickets for just 16 runs. Earlier, SRH posted 231/6 in 20 overs, owing to Ishan Kishan's unbeaten knock of 94 off 48 balls.
RCB has dropped to third place in the standings. The team has 17 points from 13 matches.
The team will play its last league stage match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana on Tuesday, May 27. The side needs to win this contest and then hope either Gujarat Titans or Punjab Kings slip up to make it to the top two.
However, a loss against LSG will ensure RCB's ticket to the Eliminator.

KSCA holds crisis meeting after Bengaluru stadium stampede
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 7 (ANI): The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) held a key meeting on Friday to decide the next course of action following the stampede incident outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The meeting was being chaired by KSCA President Raghuram Bhat. More details are awaited. Earlier in the day, top senior officials of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), secretary A Shankar and treasurer ES Jairam, tendered their resignations from their posts, taking 'moral responsibility' for the stampede that took place near M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday. This was ahead of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team's felicitation after winning their Indian Premier League (IPL) title by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a tight final on Tuesday. As per ESPNCricinfo, the resignation has been submitted to the president of the board, Raghuram Bhat. Also in Bengaluru, CID officials paid a visit to KSCA office, with the state government having ordered a CID probe into the stampede case. Apart from this, a government letter surfaced revealing that the Karnataka government had granted written permission to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to hold an event at Vidhana Soudha to celebrate RCB's victory. The letter, dated June 4, was a swift response to KSCA's request, which the government approved by applying 19 conditions, as a huge crowd was expected in the Chinnaswamy stadium. Among the top concerns mentioned in the approval letter is the safety of the iconic Vidhana Soudha premises. 'Due to the large crowd that will gather during this event, precautions should be taken to ensure that no damage is done to the Grand Steps, statues, roads, or parks. You must be willing to cover the full repair or cost if any kind of disaster occurs,' mentions the letter. The other key conditions included, 'The program should be conducted without disrupting the traffic system. Action will be taken in this regard in coordination with the Police Department. The program should be conducted in a manner that does not interfere with office work. Keeping the event venue clean. Plastic bottles and items are strictly prohibited.' Apart from this, the event management company arranging the breakfast was asked to pay an advance security deposit of Rs 10,000, which was refundable, and a non-refundable Rs 10,000 fee. Meanwhile, a sessions Court in Bengaluru on Friday remanded four individuals, including senior Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) official Nikhil Sosale and three event managers, to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with the stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium here. They were arrested in a joint operation by the Cubbon Park Police and the Central Crime Branch (CCB) at Kempegowda International Airport in the early hours of June 6 (Friday). (ANI)

"Siraj is very, very capable": Bharat Arun on India fast bowler
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 7 (ANI): With India heading into what's set to be a high voltage five-match Test series in England, former bowling coach Bharat Arun has recalled some of those tactical things which could decide the fate of the Indian pacers in the swinging conditions in England. Discussing the evolution and impact of Mohammed Siraj with Revsportz, Arun took a deep dive into how conditions and angles could magnify or reduce the effectiveness of a bowler. Arun highlighted Siraj's 2021 performances, particularly how his natural angle worked well against left-handers. Arun said while speaking to Boria Majumdar on Revsportz, 'Especially when bowling to left-handers, he had an actual angle which was leaving them.' 'But he tried to cut out that angle by going round the wicket to them. And your effectiveness comes down, especially when there is a slight movement off the wicket,' he added. He pointed out a specific moment at Lord's where tactical adjustment made a significant difference. 'Especially at Lord's, where there is a slope. And if you're using it when you're bowling from the Pavilion End, and if you're going to be bowling round the wicket, you don't get the advantage of the slope,' he said. 'So, just at tea time, I remember asking him to go over the wicket and bowl. The line should be the leg of the left-hander. So, natural angle that leaves him, it will be leaving him on off stump,' he noted. Arun says that change paid off. He described Siraj as 'very, very capable' and implied that he might be one of the most important bowlers in the upcoming series due to his awareness of conditions and grasp of angles. The former India bowling coach also spoke highly of Arshdeep Singh's potential, especially in seam-friendly English conditions. 'I was particularly impressed with Arshdeep during the IPL. He could move the white ball both ways,' Arun said. He also emphasized the role of the Dukes ball in England, often considered a paradise for seamers. 'Probably the Dukes is the most bowler-friendly ball in world cricket. In terms of seam, in terms of the shine, the conditions in England are so conducive,' he remarked. Arun thinks that bowlers like Siraj and Arshdeep could have a significant impact in England Test series thanks to the Dukes ball, Lord's slope, and India's strong pace battery but only if they can comprehend and adjust to the finer details of English conditions.
