Man accused of shooting AR-style rifle at deputies extradited to Washington after fleeing to Nevada
The man accused of firing an AR-style rifle at Thurston County deputies in May is back in Washington after he fled to Nevada, leading local and federal law enforcement on a days-long manhunt.
Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said on May 8, 27-year-old Damien Madison allegedly fired three rounds at deputies and a K9 during a chase that started in Grays Harbor County and ended in Thurston County.
No one was injured in the shooting.
Madison fled and was arrested about a week later near the Nevada-California border. The FBI Criminal Apprehension Team, with Air Support, used a Grappler device to stop Madison's vehicle, which had his mother inside.
He made an initial appearance in a Nevada court and has since been extradited to Thurston County to face a judge here.
Madison's preliminary appearance is scheduled for today in Superior Court to determine possible release conditions.
He has been booked for:
• Two counts of first-degree assault 1st with a deadly weapon
• Drive-by shooting
• First-degree unlawful possession of a firearm
• First-degree malicious mischief

In a mountainous area in the central part of Washington, some of the ground still peppered with snow, the manhunt continued for Decker, a 32-year-old U.S. Army veteran wanted in connection to the brutal slayings of the sisters found dead after vanishing on May 30. "We're going to keep the pressure on," Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison told USA TODAY the afternoon of June 12 as he prepared to board a helicopter to help in the search. The children's mother, Whitney Decker, reported the girls missing on May 30 after the siblings left their central Washington home for a planned visit for their father, the Wenatchee Police Department reported. Wenatchee is in Chelan County, about 148 miles east of Seattle. Officials found the bodies of Paityn Decker, 9; Evelyn Decker, 8 and Olivia Decker, 5, on June 2, the Chelan County Sheriff's Office, the lead agency on the triple murder case, reported. Court papers show a deputy found the sisters with plastic bags over their head and evidence their hands had been zip tied. A medical examiner, officials reported on June 9, ruled all three deaths a homicide. Their father was homeless and living out of a white 2017 GMC Sierra pickup at the time they vanished, according to police. Police said he is a former military member with extensive training who "may pose a significant risk, if approached." Court filings obtained by USA TODAY show Travis Decker reportedly exhibited mental health issues prior to the girls' deaths. Latest on Travis Decker manhunt On Tuesday, June 10, the sheriff's office announced the hunt for Decker had narrowed after officials received a tip about a lone hiker near the Colchuck Lake in the Enchantments. The hiker appeared to be unprepared to be on the trail and seemed to avoid others. Upon responding to the tip, trackers spotted a lone hiker off trail who ran out of sight as soon as a helicopter passed, the agency deployed police dogs to the area and said they tracked the man to the area of the Ingalls Creek Trailhead on U.S. Route 97. As of Thursday, June 12, the sheriff confirmed, he remains on the run. The rugged, mountainous area is roughly 15 miles southwest of the city of Leavenworth, a Bavarian-style village popular among tourists and hikers. It's also about the same distance on foot from Rock Island Campground, where the bodies of Decker's daughters were found. Last week in Idaho, the McCall Police Department reported it received reports about a possible sighting of Decker in the western part of the Gem State. The small resort town of McCall is about 450 miles southwest of where the search for Decker is currently focused. Morrison told USA TODAY his office and law enforcement in Idaho had deemed the reports to not be credible. YPD, OSHP, find guns, marijuana in cars that were part of chase investigation
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Reports said police and state troopers Wednesday found guns and marijuana in two cars that were recovered during a high-speed chase Tuesday. The cars, which were in a city impound at 703 Wilson Ave., were seized after a man was arrested following a chase about 11 p.m. Monday that ended after the driver went to a building in the 1100 block of Andrews Ave and parked there. In the building, police found a Jeep heavily damaged by gunfire that had two guns inside in plain view and a dodge Charger that had a large amount of marijuana inside. Police had the cars towed and got a search warrant to search them Wednesday in the impound lot. Inside the Jeep, officers found an AR-15 pistol and a 9mm handgun. Inside the Charger, police found several packs of marijuana edibles, packages of marijuana in small and bulk size and five packs of disposal THC vape pens, reports said. The man who led police on the chase, Derrian Thomas, was arraigned Wednesday in municipal court and is free after posting $7,500 bond. He is due for a preliminary hearing June 18. Oregon woman arrested after K9 finds her hiding in woods near Kiwanis Park
OREGON, Ill. (WTVO) — A 34-year-old Oregon woman was arrested Wednesday after police used a K9 to root out a 'suspicious subject' hiding in the woods near Kiwanis Park. According to the Ogle County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called in to assist the Oregon Police Department for a search in the woods near the 200 block of N. 2nd Street. The K9 officer located Ashley Paddle hiding nearby. Paddle was wanted by police for an active Ogle County traffic warrant. Paddle was taken to the Ogle County Jail and held without bond.
