Thousands line up capital streets for Modi's roadshow in Odisha
Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and other senior leaders welcomed the prime minister at the Biju Patnaik International Airport, from where he joined the roadshow and a Tiranga Yatra, held simultaneously. As the PM's convoy made its way, thousands lined up on both sides of the road to get a glimpse of him.
People also showered flower petals on his convoy and greeted him with tricolour, while the PM was also seen waiving back at them with a smile during the roadshow.
'India's coordinated military response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack through Operation Sindoor showcases PM Modi's decisive leadership and unwavering commitment to our national security. This is what I like the most about him and this is what drove me to attend this roadshow,' Gourang Charan Biswal, a 55-year-old man said.
Traditional folk dances and performances including Bagha Nacha, Ghoda Nacha, Ghumura and Kirtan were performed by different cultural troups during the roadshow, spanning over 8 km from the airport to Janata Maidan. As the convoy reached Janata Maidan, the PM went to the public meeting venue in an open jeep with CM Majhi and BJP state president Manmohan Samal.
The Commissionerate Police had imposed traffic restrictions at multiple stretches for the roadshow. Around 133 platoons of police force, including 25 platoons, had been deployed in the capital.

Citing the success of the JAM (Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, and Mobile) trinity, Modi said that the initiative had plugged massive leakages in welfare schemes and prevented the theft of over Rs 4.30 lakh crore that was allegedly being siphoned off through 10 lakh fake beneficiaries under previous regimes. "Approximately 10 crore beneficiaries listed under various schemes such as the ration card, gas subsidy, and scholarships were found to be nonexistent. These individuals, who never actually existed, were being used by previous governments to funnel money to middlemen. However, these 10 crore fake names have now been removed from the list of beneficiaries by the incumbent government. According to an estimate, this cleanup has resulted in savings of over Rs 4.30 lakh crore, which would have otherwise gone into the wrong hands. Imagine theft of Rs 4.30 lakh crore. Now, this amount is being used for the development of this country," the prime minister said. PM Modi was speaking at an event at Kartavya Path after inaugurating Kartavya Bhavan (Common Central Secretariat Building) 3, the first of the 10 state-of-the-art Central government office complexes planned as part of the Central Vista redevelopment plan. These blocks will house offices of all ministries and associated departments, presently functioning from Shastri Bhawan, Krishi Bhawan, Udyog Bhawan, Nirman Bhawan, North and South Blocks and other buildings located at different locations.

Shinde meets Modi, targets Uddhav on INDIA bloc talks as both Sena chiefs signal national alignments
In what is being seen as symbolism and political posturing, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde on Wednesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and reaffirmed his party's ties with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). At a time when Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray was also in New Delhi, Shinde attacked the former for aligning with the INDIA bloc and exploring a tie-up with the MNS ahead of civic body polls. While Shinde and his family met PM Modi at the latter's official residence, Uddhav and his son Aaditya Thackeray were in the national capital scheduled to attend an INDIA bloc meeting on Thursday. The presence of both Sena chiefs in Delhi — with each meeting their respective alliance partners — served as a clear reflection of their sharpening political identities and positioning at the national level. Sources also confirmed that Shinde had a closed-door 30-minute meeting with PM Modi without aides, during which state-related issues and electoral strategy were discussed. 'We took the path of Lok Kalyan Marg shown by Balasaheb, they went to 10 Janpath,' Shinde said after meeting the PM. 'That clearly shows who is following Balasaheb Thackeray's ideology. People of the country are are doing things Balasaheb never approved of,' he said, launching a scathing attack on Uddhav. Shinde also emphasized that the Shiv Sena was the fourth largest ally of the NDA. He accused Uddhav of 'sailing in two boats' by holding talks with INDIA bloc leaders while simultaneously keeping the door open for an alliance with Raj Thackeray's MNS. 'Only someone who has lost confidence in himself does that. In a democracy, everyone has the right to form alliances and coalitions. However, some people, having lost the trust of the public and are trying to balance on two stones,' he said in a veiled reference to Uddhav. 'People vote for those who work; those who sit at home are kept at home by the public,' he said. 'When Veer Savarkar was being insulted, they remained silent because they abandoned Hindutva,' Shinde said. Taking another swipe, he added, 'Shiv Sena is a party for public welfare, while their group is a private limited company.' During the meeting with PM, Shinde, accompanied by his wife Lata Shinde, son and MP Dr Shrikant Shinde, and daughter-in-law Vrushali Shinde, presented PM Modi with a specially commissioned painting of Lord Mahadev, crafted by acclaimed artist Kishor Nandivdekar. The gift, Shinde said, symbolised the successful 'Operation Sindoor' and 'Operation Mahadev', India's retaliatory strikes against the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attack. 'Just as Lord Mahadev vanquished evil, our armed forces under the Prime Minister's leadership eliminated the terrorists,' he said. The painting, he added, was a tribute to that national effort and resolve. Earlier in the day, Shinde met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and praised him for becoming the longest-serving Home Minister in the country's history. 'He fulfilled Balasaheb Thackeray's dream by abrogating Article 370, crushed terrorism through Operation Mahadev, and strengthened the cooperative sector. His leadership is decisive and efficient,' Shinde said. Reiterating his Sena's political stand, Shinde announced that the Shiv Sena will support the NDA's candidate in the upcoming vice-presidential election and contest local body polls in Maharashtra as part of the Mahayuti alliance. 'Just like we fought the Assembly elections together, we'll go into civic polls united,' he said. Shinde used the occasion to question Uddhav Thackeray's Hindutva credentials, accusing him of abandoning the ideology and remaining silent on insults to Veer Savarkar. 'They gave up Hindutva. They stayed silent when Savarkar was insulted. That's why people won't stand by them,' he said. Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Shinde added, 'Questioning the Army's bravery, defaming India and the PM abroad, speaking the language of Pakistan — is not patriotism but love for Pakistan.' Meanwhile, Uddhav Thackeray's camp maintained its engagement with the INDIA alliance and met NCP(SP) chief Sharad Pawar in New Delhi. A day earlier, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi met PM Modi, though both sides termed it a courtesy call. Uddhav is expected to join Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition leaders for a strategy dinner ahead of the bloc's formal meeting. In a separate development, Shinde addressed public concerns over the relocation of a 36-year-old elephant named Madhuri from a Jain Math in Maharashtra to Gujarat's Vantara centre. He said the state government would file a review petition in the Supreme Court. 'The government respects public sentiment. Both Maharashtra and Vantara will be parties to the case,' he said.

Nakkapalli Bulk Drug Park project opposed at public hearing
Mild tension prevailed at the public hearing conducted by Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) on the Bulk Drug Park (BDP) project proposed at Nakkapalli on Wednesday, with the police detaining CPI(M) leaders and activists on charges of obstructing the programme. CPI(M) Central Committee leader K. Lokanatham, who was detained, said that this public hearing for the bulk drug project was held after Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the project in January this year. 'Not only the local residents but also a section of leaders and activists of the ruling coalition partners are opposing the project. However, the government is using the police force to conduct the public hearing without giving all stakeholders a chance to speak their mind,' Mr. Lokanatham said. The CPI(M) leader said that he was detained by the police during the public hearing and taken to S. Rayavaram police station, around 15 km from the venue. 'The police released me in the evening. A total of six candidates from our party were also detained,' he said. CPI(M) Anakapalli district secretary G. Koteswara Rao told the media that many locals and environmentalists raised red flags about the environmental and public health risks posed by the bulk drug park project. 'With this project, Nakkapalli will become like Jeedimetla of Hyderabad. We all saw how some areas such as Patancheru, Bollaram, Sangareddy, Jeedimetla in Hyderabad are suffering due to pollution and poisonous gases emitted by the industrial units there,' he said. People from fishing villages attended the public hearing held near the MRO office in Nakkapalli. They protested against the project. 'We are already witnessing recurrent accidents in pharma companies in Parawada mandal. Nakkapalli is proposed to be a bigger pharmaceutical hub than Parawada. The government shifted the project from Kakinada after facing strong opposition there,' said a villager. As per the guidelines for the scheme for promotion of BDPs introduced by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers in March 2020, the BDP project was proposed at Nakkapalli in Andhra Pradesh Bulk Drug Park in 1270.80 acres by M/s Andhra Pradesh Bulk Drug Infrastructure Corporation Limited. The total estimated project cost is ₹1257.75 crore.
