More than 100 gather in Madisonville to protest Trump administration, Garcia deportation
What started as an idea in Madisonville became a block-wide demonstration opposing what many say is President Donald Trump's effort to push the United States into authoritarianism.
It's what plenty say is an effort to safeguard American democracy and the Constitution after what some claim is poor behavior from the president.
Madisonville's protest comes on the heels of what the current administration considers a mistake of deporting Maryland man Kilmar Abrego Garcia who immigrated illegally to the U.S. but was living legally in America since 2019.
President Trump and his allies claim Garcia is part of the designated terrorist group MS-13.
'One of the worst things that he's done — being a trial lawyer for 43 years — is to see a man from Maryland sent to El Salvador that hadn't been charged with a damn thing, and it happened without due process of the law,' says a demonstrator who took the podium.
'This is not who we are,' says another demonstrator taking the podium. 'No kings. Let's say it together. No kings! No kings!'
'That's what we're saying today on the 250th anniversary of the start of the Revolutionary War in Concord and Lexington, Massachusetts in 1775 — on this very day. We're sick. We said then 'no kings' and now we're saying 'no kings. no authoritarians,'' says former city councilor Mark Lee.
I'm told Saturday's protest will not be the last demonstration.

Zelensky gives Trump a golf putter
President Trump is putting a new flat stick in his golf bag, courtesy of a Ukrainian soldier who shares his love for the game and delivered by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Zelensky presented Trump with a new blade-style putter during his visit to The White House on Monday. The Ukrainian leader told the president that the club was given to him by Kostiantyn Kartavtsev, a junior sergeant in Ukraine's Armed Forces. The solider lost a leg in the first months of Russia's full-scale invasion, according to the Ukrainian government, noting golf became part of Kartavtsev's rehabilitation and helped him regain balance 'both physically and mentally.' Trump recorded a video for the Ukrainian fighter thanking him for the gift. 'I just watched you swing, I know a lot about golf, and your swing is great. You're going to be a very good golfer soon,' he told the soldier in the clip making the rounds online with Ukrainian subtitles. 'I want to thank you for this putter … is made with real love from you.' The president encouraged the Ukrainian soldier to keep playing golf and said he and Zelensky are working 'very, very hard to bring your country back to health.' 'The putter is beautiful, thank you. Every time I sink a putt I'll be thinking about you,' he quipped. Zelensky traveled to Washington to meet with Trump and European leaders as the U.S. helps to facilitate a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia amid the ongoing war in Eastern Europe. An avid golfer who owns courses and resorts around the world, Trump was in Scotland earlier this month for the grand opening of his newest property at Turnberry. The PGA Tour also announced Tuesday that it would return to the president's Doral resort in Florida next May, marking the first time the sport's premier league has held an event at a Trump property since 2016.

Oklahoma testing some incoming teachers to spot ‘radical leftist ideology'
A new test will be administered to out-of-state teachers coming to Oklahoma from blue states in a move the state superintendent said is meant to root out 'radical leftist ideology' from classrooms. The test, set to be administered by conservative educational platform PragerU, will be required for the teachers to receive an Oklahoma certification. 'As long as I am superintendent, Oklahoma classrooms will be safeguarded from the radical leftist ideology fostered in places like California and New York. Any teacher coming from these states will be required to pass our new PragerU assessment before receiving certification, because we refuse to let Gavin Newsom's woke, Marxist agenda turn Oklahoma into the same dumpster fire California has become,' Ryan Walters said. The test has not been administered yet but a spokesperson for Walters's office said it will be 'very soon.' While the full test was not shared, some questions seen by The Hill ask incoming teachers basic civics questions, such as the first three words of the Constitution and why freedom of religion is important in America. The move comes after other controversial initiatives by Walters in Oklahoma such as trying to put Bibles in every classroom or changing the way the 2020 election is taught to work in President Trump's baseless allegations of widespread fraud.
