Vandalism causes major flooding at Englewood apartments, over 50 people forced out of homes

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (KDVR) — Over 50 people are out of their homes after a suspect vandalized a fire suppression system, causing major damage to an Englewood apartment building.
In a video from the Englewood Police Department, water could be seen rushing down stairs in the east building of the Parkview Towers, near Pearl and Highway 285. Residents allowed FOX31 to see the damage inside, which showed water stains on the ceilings, dripping through light fixtures and flooding the floors.
'At about 8:30 this morning, officers were dispatched regarding an incident where a fire suppression system was tampered with, thus causing the building to flood,' said Englewood Police Chief Dave Jackson. 'The flooding was quite substantial and affected the electrical components in the building. Ultimately, the building was rendered uninhabitable.'
'I've never honestly seen anything like this in my life,' said resident Sean Mulcahy, who has lived on the second floor since September. 'The alarms started going off and my daughters woke me up and we just grabbed the cat and grabbed the keys to the car, grabbed the wallet.'
About 55 people in 46 units are out of their homes, having to move out their belongings and pets during Thursday's snowfall.

'You walk on the carpet and it squishes. On the second floor, there is a still a big puddle of water that hasn't saturated through yet. The paint is starting to peel off the walls in the stairwells,' said resident Erinne Langlois, who has lived in the building since 2015. 'I'm just packing about a weeks worth of stuff, but I had to clear our my fridge, I had to clear out my freezer. I mean, I'm a single woman living in Denver. That's all expensive food that I don't want to go to waste… That can be economically a huge impact on people.'
The property management is working to get hotel vouchers for the residents. It is not known yet when residents can move back in, but Englewood police believe residents will be out for at least a week.
'We are not looking at this as an accidental situation, whether this was tampered with for property damage to cause destruction or the steal something, we're not quite sure,' said Jackson. 'Some of the neighbors are helping each other, which it seems like every time we do these things, even though they're dramatic and even though they're terrible and really causing a lot of issues for people, people do come together and work together to try to make the best of it.'
Fire and police will remain on scene to keep the property safe. Initial planning for repairs is set for Friday.

DENVER (KDVR) — The Loveland Police Department is asking for help tracking down a person who they say appears to have accidentally donated 'truly special' and 'incredibly valuable' items to the Loveland arc Thrift Store in January. LPD did not specify what the mystery item was, but said it is 'determined to reunite the rightful owner with their valuable property.' LPD noted the incident was not criminal. Here's how you can help support Coloradans impacted by the Lee, Elk and Crosho fires LDP said the Loveland arc Thrift Store, located at 3131 N. Garfield Avenue, received 'a couple' of small bags containing donated items that, upon inspection several weeks later, were determined to have 'valuable items' hidden inside a box within one of the bags. The employee who found the items notified store management, who in turn contacted LPD, the police said. Store surveillance footage obtained by detectives captured the person they believe donated the bag, police said. The person is described as driving a dark, possibly maroon colored newer-model Hyundai Palisade, with what appears to be a black Colorado custom license plate. Anyone who recognizes the person or their vehicle is asked to contact LPD 'immediately' by phone at 970-667-2151. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
